Moved to NY (legally, yes, it is possible if you work hard and respect rules) from Europe a year and a half ago. Best decision of my life.
I would not change that for anything else, and I love it here.
And millions that try to move here every year (legally or illegally), probably think the same.
People that "are disgusted" by the US and have never been here make me laugh.
YOU would know that something is "bad" just by following some of the garbage media that constantly changes things up and only focuses on one thing.
Not particularly referring to Trump, so please, Outraged NeoGAF, don't start attacking me like it happens in 95% of US topics on this forums (which is why it has become a chore to check the Off Topic section).
If you ever wanted to visit a city in the US for years, I will guarantee you that NOTHING has changed in terms of danger and stability from the previous President to now.
I used to go out in NYC when Obama was President, and it was lovely, and it is still lovely.
Same applies for other major cities I visited for years.
Instead of making up these crazy ideas on things being terrible from the outside because of the political climate, get a real sense of things.
Visit a country, give it a chance, and then talk.
If you don't really know, how can you speak on things by reading articles on the internet?
Are you also the same people that review a game by reading other reviews?
Is this that common on NeoGAF?
For people that live in the US, well, cannot say much. If you experience things and you are unhappy, that is a different story.
My only criticism is that I feel tons of people are touting "the end of the world" when clearly, that is not even remotely the case.
Bad shit happened when Obama was in charge as well. A LOT of shit. Denying it would just be lying to ourselves.
Obama is a nice human being (or at least, looks like it), but he was not the best president. Being great at giving speeches does not make you a great president, and I am a little tired of people putting the two things together.
Despite the outsiders calling the US a "racist country", or better, Trump bringing racism to the US, all I have personally experienced is a very diverse and open minded community.
Obviously, we have to fight racism, but chances are that in a nation with 323 million people, you will hear about bad incidents here and there.
It's an unfortunate, terrible, number game. The bigger the country, the more likely shit like this is there to happen (with media obviously focusing on it big time).
To make it short, stop generalizing, please. There ain't any end of the world here.
I surely agree on having to fight stupidity, racism and hatred, but don't use an unfortunate event to describe a whole nation.
It makes you look really bad.
