Right guys, the OT is coming.

I've had a very busy week with work, much busier than expected but the good news is that I've managed to nab an upgrade with Emirates for my flight to London in a few hours so I'll get everything sorted for the OT while I'm on the flight. It will go up at some point after 9pm UK time tonight.

thanks man

This game is running great for me (Ryzen 1700 plus RX480). A far cry of how the Forza 7 demo ran on my PC. Controls take a lot getting used to with my Xbox One controller.

Mine still shows the Auto Download checkbox, always unchecked even after I check it. Just doesn't stick.

Made worse because of its mocking listing of the auto download date as 9/19/2017

So they must be rolling it out in waves, that was exactly what was happening until it wasn't. I'm sure it'll go live any moment.

The current Steam reviews are BRUTAL. Not sure if we have the same product installed.

54% of 57 user reviews are positive.

Considering the number of bugs I found in about an hour of playtime... I'm more irked than angry.

VR is definitely a step forward from PC1, but there are still some occasional hitches in some situations (probably when a lot of AI cars are around), which seem to be impossible to completely eliminate.

But it's looking better and acceptable performance for me.

Still, quite low graphics settings, mostly near minimum.

Really enjoying the vastly increased content.

Overall it's now a playable game in VR, IMO. Not just a cool curiosity.

I can confirm that my toaster of a PC can run PCARS 2 alright. I only tried out a quick race with 15 opponents on Long Beach though.

I´m loooving it so far, but:

I´m getting my ass handed with the new handling model so far. I still don´t know how much is settings, a crappy G25 (still) or just some bugs.

Braking with some cars is mental.

Downshifting with H pattern cars is ridiculously hard. The game forces you to heel and toe, i know it´s a technique, but it´s like the older race cars just keep on neutral if you don´t tap the gas pedal.

It´s a struggle to find the right balance. Tried messing with LSD settings and engine braking, but nothing so far.

Also, braking even with ABS is hard as fuck in some cars. My benchmark car is the famed McLaren F1 on Zolder, and i´m 10 seconds slower than in Pcars 1, where i was on the top 5 of the leaderboard. It changed a lot.

It´s funny, because despite cars being more catchable, it´s the hardest sim i´ve ever raced. The R30 silhouette is a handful.

Anyways, these are just two things i´m having trouble right now, but t has the potential to be the best racing game of recent years.

Hmmm... my download just bombed out and is now stuck at 42.313GB out of 52.254GB

This sure isn't a seamless pre-load experience so far.

Edit: A few pause/resume-download cycles and some choice expletives and the download seems to be going again.

I guess all's fair if the game launches on schedule in 32 minutes.

I tested out VR just the rookie career open wheel. Pretty impressive. It runs great and it instantly improved my driving, I was even able to almost complete a 30 minute practice session where before in pcars1 or iRacing I would instantly get motion sick. Hopefully this is just me getting my VR legs.

Anyone have some good setting for the Fanatec CSL Elite? I’m using the default currently, I have to go through and map all the buttons too which kinda sucks.

Jumping in for some test drives to get a handle on things.

Is there any way to reset damage? Missed that first left on Long Beach and shattered my windshield. So I reset the session but my windshield is still shattered? Do you have to completely back out and restart the entire event to reset the race and car state? If so, that's a weird "restart" option.

Ran 3 separate 5 lap single car races with a few different cars (evo x, Porsche gt3, and the the gt3) and even on a pad they all felt great. Perhaps a touch twitchy, but just something to adjust to (besides, I plan to play mainly with my wheel). Certainly a much better out of the box experience then the first, especially the fq400, which i thought was garbage in pcars1. VERY very happy so far

We need a PC performance thread.

I'm getting terrific frame rates in the dry with everything on ultra and sub 60 fps with a full AI grid in the rain/thunderstorm at Spa. This seems odd as nearly every review I've seen states the PC version with my specs runs (GPU is a Asus ROG GTX 1070) well above 100 fps on max settings.

I might need to turn down the reflections and world mapping (forgot what it's called). Already installed the latest drivers.

It's good, really good, physics feel close to AC for me which is a good thing.

In terms on controller settings it's not bad out of the box, but I can see where some of the negatives stem from, and the settings do need tweaking.

Firstly, hardly any of the assignments are preset, so you need to do that first, then the settings themselves.

So far, I've need to change 3,lots of people complained about understeer, the speed sensitivity is set way too high, try 50 to start with.

Brake sensitivity is also way too high, 20-30 is sufficient.

Steering sensitivity needed to come down slightly, try 15.

Other than that, it's pretty good.

Yeah, I ended up tweaking controller settings a bit.

But man, night and day difference from PC1. You can be a lot more aggressive on the controller, and you don't lose it entirely and careen into the walls when you push a little too far.

Only negative so far is it seems like there's less AA here (playing on PS4 Pro) because the track can look noisy during the day with all the shadows, but can't be certain whether that's a matter of my particular conditions. Also, helmet view DOF seems dramatically reduced.

And man, the audio. Hot damn. Just starting out with the Ferrari 488 GT3 and its a fucking BEAST, but I have a feeling I haven't heard nuthin' yet.

played about an hour 40 now and loving it... controller is way better than 1 made a few tweaks, very happy.

the graphics on xbox s are ok... nlt as good as id hoped. the shadow aliasing is really bad. and the crawling aliasing on guard rails etc.. anywhere there is a fence or tree shadows on track, looks rough. in weather, though, pretty good but water spray is a little unrealistic looking

can only hope the X enhanced version solves those issues.

the hdr implementation is not bad. but after playing the fm7 demo yesterday everything will suffer in comparison.

i am enjoying it for what I bought it for, a real representation of racing, complete control over weather and time of day, amazing sound and feel and challenge.

having all options available during a race is a welcome touch

How in the hell do you drive under rain or snow ???? Geez the cars are impossible to control !

Also, really disappointed in the graphics at times... More often than not.

Lol, fell asleep last night before the game unlocked. In work for 7am so no time to boot it up. Might get a chance to play it on Sunday. Sounds like there are a few little (fully expected) bugs and oddities, but nothing like how pCARS launched, and nothing that can't be patched. Glad to hear you pad users are happy! :)

Damnit my game is still "unpacking" on steam, has been for over an hour and a half. What's the point of pre-loading if it takes that long to unpack it.

I might nip home sometime today to set it unpacking in that case. Thanks for the tip.

Cool. Was wondering when it was coming. Looking forward to seeing how safe you play it with the OT title..! ;)

Two things I can't figure out.

Where I turn the steering wheel off, and where I change AI settings.

Oh yeah, and the setup saving system is still a mess, why can't games get this right, even AC's is terrible.

FYI there's a bug report thread at GTP, being monitored by Ian Bell and a couple of SMS staffers. Post anything you find in there chaps for the betterment of all. You'll probably get quickish answers about anything puzzling you too.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/project-cars-2-bug-report-q-a.359113/

Wonder what the original thread title was lol..!

Edit: FYI console peeps:

Unfortunately loose and stable setups didn't make it into the D1P on consoles. They'll most likely come with the next update.

Man I've been watching this gamepad gameplay, I know that the player is good but it still feels very smooth :) (especially with that old Lotus)

By the way the Japanese Cars Pack will be available on the PS Store, right? I may be looking for the standard edition and it looks like that's what I'll be missing.

Right, fired it up this morning for a race before work. Felt good. Looked good. Here's my setup:

PC, Xbox One controller, i5 2500k OC @ 4.3GHz, 8gb ram, gtx 1070 (8gb vram)

Played: quick race in Porsche 911 GT3 LM @ Laguna Seca. Race start: 16:00, dry.

Felt smooth on a controller. Massive improvement over PC1 - can actually feel what the car is gonna do now, was a little easy to lock up, but I put that down to me braking late and not having a braking line on (btw, I'm hoping to use this game to help me overcome my reliance of that). I actually can't wait to run this with my T300.

Visually it looked nice, no doubt it will wow people with better rigs. But I was impressed with what I've seen so far.

AI felt hard but fair, taking a gap when they see it and capitalising on my mistakes which is good - that's what I want from AI.

Can't wait to be done with work so I can dive in properly. Also, I need some clean racers on my steam friends list, feel free to add me: KdotIX

I got standard edition (digital) and japanese car pack was included in my downloads.

I will be going with the retail version and I'm pretty sure that one doesn't include the pack.

Nvm, I found the answer on the WMD forums. The standard physical edition seems to be the only one without that DLC. :/ Oh well I am planning to buy the game in 1 or 2 months anyway so I'll go for the physical limited edition.

Played an hour or so of Steam version last night.

Overall a positive experience. Actually possible to play with the controller without wishing death on everyone involved.

Much better presentation. Well thought out menus, some excellent choices and features.

Performance excellent on my PC. GTX1070 having no trouble with 1440p60 with settings maxed.

Only negative so far is the variable quality of track graphics. Some are very good. Some are rough as houses - looking like homebrew Grand Prix Legends mods.

Why this have to be necessary? Why can not default settings be enough? Really I don't see how this happens everytime.

It must just be down to personal preferences, the default controls are "fine", but not optimised, at least not for me.

I don't get the complaints of the game looking bad, it looks great to me.

Still can't find the AI settings, or how to turn the wheel off, anybody?

So that's what 'racing against a ghost' means. Dude needs some sun!

It's a bit of a spurious wish, but playing the FM7 demo with changeable race suits, makes me wish I could change the race suits, gloves and helmets in PCars.

The Escort RX on Knockhill RX is mental, that's a great test of controller settings!
