I'm sure HR was just acting like some of the fine people in this thread and making a commitment to courtroom standards of evidence before taking a woman at her word.

The reason this pattern of behavior keeps flourishing is because of the chilling baseline skepticism that greets these kind of accusations.

Fuck this guy. Hope his career is destroyed and his wife leaves him. Dunno if he has kids or not but I’ll feel bad for his family. Brave women to step up that’s never easy. Helps when others come forward though.

Also fuck the HR dept. fire them all.

Noticed these kinds of sexual assault cases mostly come from geek film outlets, and not outlets like Variety, Indiewire, The Film Stage, The Hollywood Reporter, etc. Is it because they don't have women in higher roles or are predominantly male geeks?

A little of both. A little because outlets focusing on geek/nerd culture tend to champion childish/unprofessional behavior. And a little because there's an unfortunate clique attitude with geek/nerd sites.

It's reassuring to see people closely involved here react accordingly. Elsewhere you'd see the same people calling out others while in the next sentence defending abusers they're friends with. It's why it keeps happening.

Yet there was a lot of 'heat' for the Big Bang Theory humour... shit's a little less funny now, huh.

Shame.

Shameful behavior. The guy should at least publicly apologize and step down.

To be honest, long before this happened, I haven't really cared for most of their content outside of the trailers.

First & foremost, fuck Defy for shutting down GameTrailers. Secondly, fuck Defy for keeping Andy around knowing this was happening. I'm legit shocked by this. I'm super happy that Dan spoke out against him.

No, I say it as a victim of sexual assault. I know what it is like to have someone with more power than you hold it over you that you cant do anything (he was an older relative). I know if I just said something about it, it would be taken as I just didnt know what I was saying. When there is more than one source it starts to become more damning.

Its also uncomfortablly telling how people leap to conclusions without evidence. You may have been one of the people burning others in Salem, or sentencing people to death from "hard evidence" in cases where later DNA evidence showed innocence but oops they are already dead.

You dont just say things without something else to back it up, otherwise it has no meaning.
I'm sorry about what you had to experience.

Unlike the issue with rape culture, toxic masculinity and a US president who was voted into office literally weeks after admitting - on tape - that he's a serial sexual harasser, there was no actual "witch culture" in Salem. - Not a single witch was guilty.

Again, people people are acting as if false accusations were something that happened even REMOTELY as often as actual harassment and that's why we should be super weary. Meanwhile real, actual witness reports are downplayed, brushed off, silenced on a day to day basis.

Movie Fights has generally been enjoyable / funny for me, but he needs to be completely gone / disconnected from Screen Junkies before I'll watch again.

Welp, a milkshake duck moment for me. Love honest trailer. Thanks god the other staff is a decent person

Edit: Not the HR and producer. Wtf, they still let him work even after 3 victim report it!?

While it's good to see that person that assaulted and harassed women is finally having their sins aired the early reactions here were pretty damned disgusting.

You want to know why women don't go public with their sexual harassment? That is why. YOU are why.

No one believes them. People question their character and force them to relive their abuse only to still dismiss their truth.

Only when multiple women come forward do you start to see people accept that they might have been wrong but even that is a cop out.

What happens to the many women who are the sole targets of their harassers?
The victims whose only evidence of their abuse is their lived experience?

Some trash ass responses on that first page. Damn.

This is the unfortunate truth of the situation.

It's understandable that people don't want to turn on individuals they've come to respect the work of based on hearsay, but at the same time the fair-minded "I will wait for more evidence to make a decision as many men's lives are ruined by women lying about this stuff!" things inherently make it harder for women to come forward.

The first woman had to essentially risk everyone just tossing her aside if nobody else came forward; not because what she was saying was untrue, but because the first concern for a lot of people is making sure the accused is completely insulated from any particular negative fallout. Lip service to believing the woman, but always with the immediate list of reasons why you can believe her while still acting in a way consistent with not believing her.

Because it's generally not, "If true, this is disappointing." and waiting to find out more. It's generally "Only one woman? With no proof? I of course always believe the victim but it's really important we all keep in mind this could be nothing and we shouldn't judge him unfairly." It's I'm-not-calling-her-a-liar-but-she-could-totally-be-a-liar-please-keep-that-in-mind.

It doesn't mean tar and feather the guy after the first woman comes forward, just... maybe don't immediately tack BUT SHE COULD BE LYING on to the discussion. If you want to wait and see, wait and see.

Damn. You gotta have some sort of power to do this stuff if you look like this guy. In no world is sexual harassment okay, but damn, it takes a lot of nerve to act like this. You have to feel bad for people who are just trying to do a job and are subjected to this sort of treatment. It's disgusting. Sickening more that some men want to "stick together" in times like this.

You do not want to be associated with this type of behavior.

Damn I really like some of their content like honest trailers and movie fights. But this is disgusting.

I wonder if they can still continue if they kick him out or if the brand is too damaged. I will not unsubscribe immediately because I still like the rest of the crew, but I will not be watching anything with Andy anymore.

i decided to unsubscribe immediately, to send a message - i'd be willing to resubscribe, once the necessary actions have been taken. (removal of Signore, statement by defy - especially with regards to why HR didn't act... at all)

Why wasn't anything done?

Because the accused was more valuable than the accuser (to the company, to fans, to the bottom line). People will go out of their way to dismiss bad behavior from 'stars' any way they can.

What the fuck... Gross. Hope more victims feel empowered to speak out now.

Really creepy how insidious this shit is. Like Weinstein and other predators, there are probably many other women who were also violated by this perv. Goddamn. Thank God, she kept receipts. What a fucking creep.

I don't fault your reasoning, but Andy Signore is not any of those people, he's nowhere near their level of influence.

Defy Media, who own Screen Junkies, don't need him. Screen Junkies don't need him.

He's expendable.
Andy Signore is nowhere near the level of these guys
So? My point is that saying "he's done" is nowhere near a cemented fact. It's very likely that he gets picked up by some other outlet and continues to thrive. It happens all the fucking time.

Another woman has come forward with an email that Andy sent to her.
Hey :) awkward advance ;) lol sexual harassment, lol :) LOL

i know, right? it's the whole "playful creepy tone, so he can always fall back into 'lol JK' when the other person calls him out"

"haha lol, let's just be secret friends, haha lol, don't tell anyone, haha send me nudes, haha jk"

Reads a bit like Babylonian's DMs.

Absolutely awful. Signore needs to get the boot. And HR not taking this seriously enough but instead covering for Signore is exactly what I was talking about earlier when I said that the people who matter should be listening, investigating and acting accordingly. They didn't, it's fucked up.

Edit: Great to see that people that closely work with Signore are quick to condemn his actions and don't just remain silent.

Some trash ass responses on that first page. Damn.

The immediate witch hunts on the first page (calling for his resignation, #fuckoff #milkshakeduck et al) were the trash responses there, not ones that followed. In almost every one of these cases the public will have an infinitely better sense of it all given a little time. In this case it didn't even take 24 hours. Taking a vaguely pragmatic stance while a breaking story that landed in the middle of the night and didn't contain any supporting evidence develops is not dismissing the allegation out of hand or calling the person stepping forward a liar, and the story developing in a particular (unsurprising...) way does not retroactively prove that initial approach wrong.

Reel in the reductive binary rhetoric. It's every thread on Off-Topic at this point.

Nope. Hollywood overall has been poisoned for decades here.

I mean the motivation this person cited to come out was the recent Weinstein controversy.

Ah that sucks if true. And the tweets that have been reposted here are pretty damning.
I don't subscribe to Screen Junkies but I watch Movie Fights occasionally. He seemed like a cool guy. Sigh... Another one to add to the pile I guess.

I liked Roth Cornet when she was at IGN and now I learned that she's the EiC of Screen Junkies. I wonder if she'll speak out about this.

Edit:
And it's crazy to think that that entire milieu is so incestuous that it took so long for women to speak out. That's a scary thought.

What gets me was that this was just some neckbeard on a youtube channel and he thought he was powerful enough to do this. Imagine if he had real hollywood power. What a fucking creep.

Dude, he's a 2 time Emmy nominee, they've had pretty big panels at SDCC and NYCC - they're among the biggest 'Non-major-TV-Network' movie channels on Youtube, regularly getting interviews with the lead actors of blockbuster movies.
