Cuphead |OT| 2 Cups 1 Screen

Thankfully managed to get screenshot mapping to work with DS4Windows and the GOG version by using ReShade's screenshot feature rather than Afterburner's (which wasn't detecting the hotkey via the DS4).

One minor point is that when 'next' prompts are on screen for cutscenes the game accepts any key input to progress, which means if you're trying to Alt-Tab it will count the key as continuing... Same for the Windows key (if you want to use Win+<num> to toggle visibility of an item on the taskbar, for ex). Would be better if it were limited to the alpha keys / existing in-game mapped buttons at least. Doesn't appear to affect dialog so it's not a huge deal tbh.

Edit: err, it appears when using the DS4 and Alt-Tabbing out of the game it seems to think there are two players—one on the controller and another on the keyboard, with both characters accepting the input of the controller when moved. Entering the pause menu and removing player 2 removes Mugman but upon Alt-tabbing the game continues to flash a 'PRESS ANY BUTTON TO JOIN' on screen... Additionally if I use the keyboard to navigate the Pause menu (like I do for many other games) it auto registers a second player. Can single player be perma-enabled?

Edit 2: it's triggering a second player upon merely using the DS4 movement buttons. I use DS4Windows since it allows me to disable the lightbar, and exiting DS4Windows causes the game to completely undetect the raw controller detects it now raw but prompts are missing (see screenshot). Looking at the button bindings in DS4Windows it's using the up/down/left/right of the analog stick so I'm not sure what is going on.

Edit 3: using without DS4Windows is now working without the second player prompt appearing. However I now can't disable the lightbar to conserve battery life, or use the screenshot button I'd mapped to the PS button. It also fails to display some of the prompts in the tutorial.

Edit 4: okay, so enabling Hide DS4 Controller is a workaround in DS4Windows. I lose the native DS4 in-game prompts but so far I'm not getting the other issues above and after all the rigamarole can begin the game proper.

Fuck that dragon. Too many times when trying to aim downwards to shoot at it when I was up high trying to avoid fire balls or the fire breath the game would make me fall through the clouds because I'm holding the stick downwards. Ended up shooting only a little bit in between dodging the fire balls.

Not my favorite boss.

Still on the second world, but that guy took me well over 4 hours to beat; I feel your pain.

Switch to the green homing bullets - then it doesn’t matter what way you’re facing. It makes it a lot easier to manage dodging the fire sprites.

Which weapon?

I use the charge shot primarily and treat many bosses like a Mega Man boss - that is, focus on jumping and dodging while hitting him with a charge shot whenever possible. In the end, it took me about 4-5 tries using this method.

Well, just telling someone to use the charge shot in its current form is the only advice anyone needs to give for Cuphead. The weapon is hilariously overpowered and will be nerfed in a future patch.

Beauty of this game. I beat the dragon 2nd try, got stuck on the clown for like 3 hours.

Now stuck on this fucking bee!

Charge shot takes the bee down fast. If you save your super until the third phase, you can beat her with the super and then like 1 or 2 charge shots.

This game.....

Time is tight just now, so I'm only getting to finish about three bosses a night. Just beat
the Genie
and there is nothing that beats that sense of satisfaction when you finally do it. Got A's in all the levels so far and it's been a beautiful infuriating struggle :)

I got stuck on the Genie, then tried it on Simple and got it. I went passed him, then did Mausoleum II, then came back and did the Genie on Regular and beat it in like three tries. No idea what changed other than just maybe need a break from grinding it.

im somehow better at this game when I dont pay attention to it and listen to a podcast or rewatch a lecture while playing it. I just turn my brain off and shit kinda clicks. If I play it on its own I'll break something

I was using roundabout and peashooter. Normally, I would have no issue using roundabout because it's similar to the homing bullets but without the cost of damage. However, they're unpredictable when I'm just holding the attack button down and they end up hitting the fireballs and exploding into smaller pieces which are a pain in the fucking ass to dodge.

I ended up just using my peashooter and only shooting in between pauses with the fireballs only from a horizontal angle, because again, I kept falling through the clouds when I was trying to shoot downwards at it from a high up safe position when its the most exposed during its fire breath. I've been avoiding the charged shot because I hear it's OP and it's going to get nerfed eventually.

I ended up beating the boss, but it's probably my least favorite so far.

My main problem with the game is that there's too many things moving on the screen, like the Beppy The Clown fight, ducks just disappear into the moving background, I often don't even see the light bulbs, my eyes can't keep up with all this shit thrown at me at the same time.

Best strat is preventively taking care of everything that can possibly hurt you when the boss is idle.

Finally beat the game after 18 hours with approx 400+ deaths.

IMHO the Devil is easier than King Dice...
I'm at 98% completion so I still got a few more achievements to hunt.

If ya'll didn't know - use the Charge shot. Basically makes most bosses in the 1st and 2nd worlds trivial, assuming you've already sorta figured out the patterns.

I agree with you, the final boss was much easier. Still a visually pleasing fight all the same though!

I feel like King Dice is the worst boss in the game. The boardgame bosses are too easy. King Dice's card attack is a pain in the ass to learn to parry correctly and he doesn't do much else. It's a shame because King Dice is the Darth Vader of Cuphead. He isn't the main villain, but you think of him more. He has that cool song and he shows up more often. I also like his design more than the Devil.

Part of me wishes that the fight started with
one instance of his card attack
, so you could practice it *before* going throught the gauntlet. It's not that bad, when you realize you can
parry the same card multiple times
, it's just that...by the time you get to him, there's a bunch of busy work that's far easier. Still, in the end, I actually love this boss fight.

Wally Warbles was the second hardest boss to get the S rank but still not even close to being as hard as Hilda Berg. Even though his attack pattern gets crazy on Expert.

Only the Djinn missing from Isle II now.

I actually thought he was one of the easier parts of that battle. Only hard part is making sure you land correctly on the first card you can parry and the rest is a snap.

how long is this game?

This is really hard to say, because some bosses might take you a lot longer than other people, or a lot shorter.

I'm at 7 hours and still have three more bosses to beat in World 3 and the 2 final bosses. I figure this is another 3 hours or so. So I got about 10 hours out of the game, unless I really bomb hard one one of the five bosses I have left

The fact that you cant "beat" the game on simple mode sucks. It's my one disappointment with an otherwise great game.

I understand its not an issue for most. However, as someone with limited gaming time. I would have liked to fully enjoy the game without the "frustration".

This design decision has caused me to stop playing. My hope this is changed in the future via an update. Would love to actually finish.

how long is this game?
I'd like to say I'm good at platformers, and my playthrough took me a little under ten hours. Not to mention, I've spent five more hours with the post-game, and I'm not close to done with what the game has to offer.

IMHO the Devil is easier than King Dice...
Looking back at it, King Dice is one of the easiest fights in the game. Initially it might seem like one of the toughest, but it's rather forgiving at its core. Fights 2, 4 and 8 are a breeze. Manipulating the dice is really easy; just do a quick double-tap one number before the one you want. Then the King Dice fight itself is one phase long, and doesn't have much going on. That said, the Devil is definitely is a pushover. I don't think an extra phase would've hurt.

I see you've already beaten him, but I found
the lobber weapon (or whatever it's called) the weapon to use when fighting this boss.
For when you know, you go back to get an A rank.
It arcs downward, so you don't have to worry about aiming down, dicking up your jumps and making you fall. It does 'good" damage too, so that's nice.

Dragon
boss (on Isle II) boss fight: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/chinohormann/video/37460193
You see me here holding off on some shots because I was having an issue you had earlier with hitting the balls, causing them to split.

People are looking down on folks using charge weapon? I just started using it as it finally allowed to me beat the
Pirate
boss on Isle III.

This game has kinda consumed me. When I'm hurting for a break, I'll stop playing and watch youtube videos of other people playing, but I shut it off if they go to a boss or run and gun I've not beaten/played yet. I like going in "fresh" for this game, which is actually strange for me. I just love figuring out these fights on my own. I should probably stop, since it might burn me out, but it's so much fun to me to watch people get frustrated at parts where I got frustrated.

I wouldn't say i look down on anybody using the charge shot, but i tested it on that very same boss and i felt like the shots were doing too much damage, i wasn't even stuck on the boss, i just changed the weapon to test it and i was just caught off guard by the ridiculous damage.

Before this, i was thinking "come on guys, it couldn't possibly be THAT powerful!"

All I see are random posts on the Internet. Choose whatever weapon you want and don't concern yourself with other opinions. I'm not sure if you were actually taking it to heart, but for people that might be!

I bought the Spread. I can't for the life of me beat the boss in Clip Joint Calamity.

Hah, my best advice would be to stay left for the fireballs to give yourself the most time to dodge, stay near the middle or off to the left best you can for the second phase and not freak out on the Tiger jackpot for the final phase. You can certainly use Spread for them, but I'd prefer a more long-range weapon. Heck, will their Regular health the Peashooter will still work fine.

I can get through the first two phases without getting hit usually. But seems like I go through like 3-4 rounds of the slot machine guy which eventually the tiger fucks me and it seems like a barely have done any damage to him.

I would use Peashooter for that fight exclusively. Just make sure you're shooting constantly while the slot machine is hurling attacks your way, as I think that's the only time you do damage. Use the lock button and aim at the taller frog's mouth when he spits fireflies to kill most of them before they even get a chance to be a problem.
Don't worry about buying weapons if you're still on Isle I. I think the early weapons you buy all have drawbacks that make them unappealing to me. I've only used homing in one specific part of one run and gun so far.

Lol, not really. Thanks though. I needed it for that effing
Pirate
though. Freaking a-hole (not you, the boss...)

Yeah, I'd say keep going at it with a long range weapon while dodging in that case. It'd give you more time to focus on the obstacles. I forget if you can unlock Special 1 by that time or not.

I just realized how much I dislike the Djinn battle. The first phase can be a cluster mess, the second phase is extremely annoying and boring auto scroll section, the third is hard but fun, the fourth simply relies on blocking the player's view, which is cheap and unfun.

This might be a stupid question, but does anybody know if the bosses keep taking damage when they are changing phases and if that would make the following phase shorter?

Specifically talking about Djinn, does the auto scroll part damage the boss if I keep shooting the pillars?

Thanks.
