finished act 3, fucked around a bit in the shadow wars. i might just youtube it so the game releases its grip over me, think I've had my fill.

Defending is hella fun though.

Seems like the "dominate faster" skill doesn't work. I see no difference when I activate it. I thought it would make it as fast as Celebrimbor.

Thanks for the tip about shadow pulling captains up to isolate them from their cheersquads though. I was at a loss when I captured the fort and all my helpers ran off to celebrate when there was a level 45 and a 50 warchief left to take down surrounded by jerks

How am I suspposed to deal with crowd control? Getting sick and tired of all these shielded grunts ganging around me while archers and spear hurlers fling their crap at me while I am trying to get a combo going.

I usually prioritize the ranged attackers with my bow first . The skill that lets you counter while doing a ground execution combined with the skill that makes perfect counters kill the enemy is such an OP combination. You can execute 3 guys at once (ground + double perfect counter) without even using any might.

I shamed then wasted him :p

If you have the might a consume/dominate chain helps a ton, even if its only 3-4 shielded dudes

Also shadow knockdown into a ground domination on the ranged attackers

Just started this last night on PC and....first impressions are not good.

Is it just me or does this look considerably worse than the first game? I know it's bigger with more going on but it just looks downright ugly to me.

Combat feels way worse too. Talion was sliding all over the battlefield to a degree that it looked like animation bugs. I love Arkham Style combat when done well but this just felt muddy and animated poorly.

I'm not looking through rose tinted glasses either- I went back and played the original for 3 hours while waiting for this to download.

I really, really want to get into the new Nemesis stuff but I'm halfway tempted to refund before its too late.

It’s rougher for sure. I never minded the dull colors and such though. I’m not super high level, so this may change, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the combat coming in either. I feel less capable in a group fight whereas I felt like a badass in the first. It’s gotten better as I’ve progressed, but something still feels slightly off. I’m not the best judge of graphics though. Also seems to have a few more bugs than the first overall. I always thought it looked nice enough, but it’s not a showpiece by any means.

The nemesis system is more than enough of a draw for me though. If you liked it in the first, then it is improved quite a bit. I really dig it personally and I hope this isn’t the last time a game uses it.

The ending is
just a cutscene.
. I don't think you'd look back at this 6 months from now wishing you'd played all 6-8 hours of it.

That's interesting. I found it to be much better looking with the superior AO, geometry, volumetric effects, lighting, 4K textures, shadows, foliage, etc. But, who knows, maybe it's just me. :p

I have a question about infiltrating captains for sieges. I’ve already done the starting siege and I’m currently in the process of taking over Cirith Ungol.

I have all three captains infiltrated right now before taking down the overlord. My question is, does it matter if I assign bodyguards to those three captains for the attacking phase? Good to do it after taking over for defense just don’t know what effect it has if any in attacking phase.

Edit: Dumb question I forgot about the assault leaders and perks.

Unrelated but I was idling the PC version just and my controller powered down and the game flipped out. It went black screen then switched to keyboard prompts.

Turned controller back on and game flips out again, multiple times before settling down, anyone else experience that.

Are you suppose to get the pit rewards when your follower loses?

The fights are really grinding on me. Lost a level 36 legendary earlier to a level 25 orc becuase my guy did nothing but taunt the entire match and ended up dying without taking a single shot at his opponent.

I on the other hand decided to clean out the trash from my roster, and sent a level 25 to die in the level 47 pits. But he won. And he won again, and again, and again, until he was 58, and i gave up trying to kill him and just made him a warchief. Don't put orcs you think are valuable into the pits!

I don't normally.

What made this bout even more annoying is that I selected him because he had a fire weapon and spawns atop a caragor, which was perfect becuase my opponent had fire and beast weaknesses. Too bad my guy decided not to attack and just stood there like a gormless fool.

Will work on my army some more tomorrow. Getting a low level army from levels in the teens all the way up to level 40+ is a really slow process.

This game in a nutshell:

I decided to take down some warchief, so I went to dominate his bodyguard on the other side of the map.

Within a minute of dominating the bodyguard, the warchief ambushed me, mad about me messing with his bodyguard. Uh thanks dude, you just saved me a lot of time.

I was really disappointed that his bodyguard, Buth Giggles, did not giggle at all.

Question about The Shadow Wars chapter

I lost my fortress in number 3 or 4. Huge ramp up in difficulty. But now the area is populated by high level dudes and I’m taking them for the new army (lost most of them when I lost the fortress) and itll be cake to take the fortress back (except the overlord is gonna be a pain in the ass because of his hp, but he’s extremely easily dazed).

Anyway, if I take the fortress back do I still have to defend it again to move forward? And how many Shadow war levels are there? 4?

I read something like 15 or 20. Hope that was a joke.

You win a shadow wars mission either by defending it, or attacking it successfully after failing to defend it. You DO NOT have to defend it again after successfully attacking it.

In Shadow Wars there are
10 stages, but after stage 4, they start having more defences per stage. There are a total of 20 fort defences in Shadow Wars.
In order, they are
1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4.

The end of Bruz's quest line is the saddest shit I've seen in my life. I wish I didn't complete it

I don't even want to play the game anymore lol

Anybody else get a junk code in their box? Just got the game from Amazon and the code inside doesn't work. I'm sure whatever it gets me is nothing but I'd like to gett what I paid for.

Okay, so I just hit Act IV... what is this about and what am I supposed to be doing here?

Edit: oooooookay, I get it. I think I'm done. If this is the shape of things to come, then I guess I'm done with Activision games. If even single player games aren't safe from lootboxes, this is going to get ugly.

Loot boxes aren't really any answer to a problem in SOW at least. They're just there. The thing that makes chapter 4 q long painful grind is the chapter itself. Getting high level orcs recruited is easy when they're being thrown at you constantly. There are people in this thread though who chapter four is exactly what they wanted the whole game to be, its interesting. It wasn't my favourite thing either, but it is SOME people's favourite thing so I feel like it's a bit cynical to assume that chapter four exists juuuust to sell boxes. Boxes being in the game at all though are definitely a step in a bad dirextion. All that said, this isn't an Activision game it's WB.

The options to level up orks are shitty. It’s too slow doing this lame blue missions, and that’s really it if you don’t want to spend money. Another trick is buffing your ring to buff orcs you recruit. Which means banishing them and re recruiting each orc multiple times till you hit the limit. For each fortress. Grindy as fuck and completely unnatural.

After losing my fortress with low level orcs I got much earlier in the game, I’m realizing it’s probably easier to let those low level orcs die and lose the fort so that you can snatch up all of those high level invading orcs that now populate that zone. Grindy yes, but far less so?

I wish you can generate missions or tasks or something to level up orcs.

I think the grind being there at all is intended to be the motivating factor to buy loot boxes, at least for the people who are amenable to the idea. Especially after how long the game is up to that point. I had a blast playing but I'm dead tired of the formula now.

That's about it. Don't bother going out of your way to save a low level orc during a siege. Spend your time recruiting enemy orcs as you fight to defend your fort. If you can't recruit an invading orc, kill it for its gear and move on to the next. Talion is a one man army late in the game, so if you need any help at all, pick a legendary/epic orc (per region) that gets easily enraged to be your bodyguard, and use the pits to level it up.

On the topic of loot boxes, there's no need to use them at all. Especially the paid ones. I finished Act 4 on normal with about 90K+ mirian to spare.

I got betrayed for the first time and I was legit offended, I shamed that fool and will kill him next time I run into him, it's always your own boys that hurt you the most.

Just needs to be said I’m in Act 2 and just opened up online and challenges and I have the say the scale of this game is gigantic compared to the scale of the first game.

Saw this before I posted, he didn’t say who he was thanking but definitely thank you for this tip as well! Game changer! For doing Orc missions and quickly killing the orc before you chance losing your own.

So just tried my first online conquest... so do I have this clear when attacking if your followers die they actually die. But when you are defending in online conquest if people kill your orcs they don’t actually die for good right?

If you're attacking and it's a ranked conquest, followers who die are permanently dead. If it's not ranked then you're fine.

You don't actually play defense but you won't lose any followers if someone is attacking your fortress.

Really burnt out on this game.

The RNG makes certain quests absurdly difficult - replaying certain quests is hugely cumbersome because i have to listen to each captain's dialogue over and over again. (Zog's final quest has you fight in an area with 6-7 captains, so that's like ... 3 minutes of dialogue each attempt - one of those captains is of course a 'no chance' fucker)

The quests are boring, progression kinda stops once you got all relevant skills and subskills (i'm just filling up skillslots now).

I really enjoyed the first game. Sure, it was rather generic open world - but this game's so obviously balanced around the nemesis system / the marketplace ...
Meeting / fighting a captain doesn't feel special anymore ... it's just a chore.

Act 4 is really weird in other ways for plot related reasons.

Garbage Talion is so quiet compared to Celebrimbor who was constantly yelling bullshit. Finding artifacts obviously loses all the one-two voice lines after, he doesn't yell when dominating orcs, he's just even more captain boring than usual. Weird thing is Talion has VO when doing warchief draw-out missions etc, so they just... skipped the more common step or something.

Do you guys prefer Dominate or Quiver of Souls as the upgrade to Drain?

Quiver of Souls seems way too good to give up.

wait, what? - i felt like this was kind of a no-choice because i figured i'd ALWAYS need dominate.

If i unspecc dominate, does that mean that i simply won't dominate regular orcs anymore, while i'll still be able to dominate captains and interrogate worms?

Yes, it's the difference between killing them afterwards or having them turn blue and fight for you. Dominate captain is it's own skill so that's not affected.
