GT Sport went down because PSN assumed it was DDOS attack

This is... beyond stupid, I guess?

Sony, I'm really glad I stopped paying for PS+. This sh!t should NOT happen. Especially in a game that is focused on ONLINE gaming.

You’re saying a security measure designed to stop people from taking down all their services is stupid? Lol

When the "security measure" ended up actually taking the service down - yes, that is stupid.
No it’s just an oversight that was corrected. You detect a DDOS attack through change in volume not in sheer volume.

So, if ten thousand people log in regularly, then all of a sudden a million people try to log in, the alarms sound. Would you rather all of PSN go down? Rofl

That's a bit daft but at least it's sorted now.

Does that mean GT Sport has been the busiest game on PSN if the same hasn't happened with other games in the past.

No, it's exactly how protection works.

No, it's really not. The game caused behavior patterns that were put in place because 99/100 times, those behavior patterns predict DDOS. Here, it wasn't, so they fixed it. It's not 'stupid', it's actually 'really good they have these protections in place'.

The same thing happens in all areas. For example, if certain behavior is nearly always fraudulent credit card theft, and you suddenly buy, say, 10 PS4s for your friends, your credit card company is likely to freeze your card, call you, and make sure your card wasn't stolen. It's not 'stupid' you triggered their protections, it's -smart- they had those protections in place.

The amount of people in here acting like this is lol-worthy, or stupid, or whatever is mindboggling. I mean, sure, it's a bit funny, but it's neither stupid nor something Sony should be ashamed of.

There was a game a couple years ago that had similar issues because it pinged servers like 100x more than it should. That was a bad design decision that got rectified. This, however, is just a case where legitimate use looked like an attack.

This is like when my bank account got locked one Christmas because it wasn't used to me spending so much money. It's annoying as hell, but a part of me was kind of thankful the security procedure was there in the first place.

It's probably more sad that so many people bought the game to begin with. Now I'm certain the future of mainstream gaming is an always-online gacha machine.

So glad to see the trash is still here in GAF. Obviously you do not use many online services if PSN is the worse
I do and psn is trash compared to steam and blizzard.
Store not loading

Cant send pictures to friends.
Same error for years that share play will always fail when you want to renew after 1 hour.

This has nothing to do with GAF.
There are serious issues with psn in some countries that have very good overall internet.
200mbit is the lowest here 😑.
Its the shit psn servers and is def not my fault.

It may very be their shitty servers or... a plethora of other issues such as many of the Internet operators blocking or throttling certain traffic... sure it is Sony’s responsibility for trying to setup better deals as other existing operators (my experience with PSN in Italy and in the U.K. has been positive though).

It makes you wonder less why there is not bigger outcry for network neutrality though when it is always just “the servers” as the central problem... the fact that ISP charge you lots for your bandwidth then try to charge each and every operator that wants to have access to you and send you data... sure some players are better than others at handling this internet robbery, but it is still a broken system where net neutrality rules do not apply (see Netflix big big campaign trying to rightfully shame the ISP’s that were throttling their video traffic and speeding up their own competing video services as well as not counting them in their users’s metered connection usage counters)...

PSN is by far the worst by a country mile in Australia. Just google the extremes you have to go to, to get decent speeds by tricking which servers it connects to for updates otherwise buckle up for a few hours. Sadly these same tricks aren't available for online play for whatever reason.

Lol this guy doesn’t know how things work.

Oh but this is where you're very wrong. Regardless there was no reason for Sony to not have or even use a whitelist of sorts for their first party games, or any of the ones with contracts in them. Shit I don't believe this many people were running GTS, I'm pretty sure Destiny 2 and or D1 had a bigger launch and they don't even use the PSN Servers.
