I’m optimistic that a new team will mean some of Prime’s sacred cows (scanning) can be sacrificed for a the sake of a snappier experience.

Let's be real here: there will be vocal whining no matter what happens. Let me elaborate my expectations with fullon Namco-bias:

On the bright side, being developed by Namco means: nice graphics, smooth, eye-pleasing anime-esque artstyle, fair difficulty.

Downsides: Probably a more linear progression (or very basic non-linearity), less ambitious in terms of gameplay overall, annoying loading times.

Since a proper evolution of Prime would neccesitate a much bigger vision than I expect an outsorced Namco-game to have, I just hope this will be a nice, cool, mainstream-compatible first-person shooter with added abilites for traversal and exploration. Add in a good story, a sexy Samus, and maybe a fun online-multiplayer if it fits the gameplay.

Not expecting anything groundbreaking, but it could very well become the best-selling Metroid-game if Nintendo and Namco play their cards right.

I see some of these could be downsides towards the fanbase. Can't really have a "sexy samus" while being in first person unless it has cutscenes

We will see how that goes.

Also, i really would like to know what the heck Retro Studios has been doing since Tropical Freeze, i do hope their next project is announced at the next E3.

I have a ton of faith. Why? Some of the devs were people who worked on the cancelled Star Wars game.

This studio houses some former LucasArts Singapore staff who previously worked on, among other things, the ambitious cancelled Star Wars 1313.
That really means nothing since while star wars 1313 was in affect ambitious, the gaming world would never know if it was going to be good or not. Look at some of the former retro devs who went to arkham origins blackgate. That game didn't do so hot. Best to keep expectations in place imo

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
So this also confirms Ridge Racer as Switch exclusive then?
Well that rumour was that Metroid Prime devs was making Ridge Racer 8.
This is probably the where that rumour came from and details got mixed up and it was actually Namco is making the Metroid Prime.
There is no new Ridge Racer basically

I simply meant the project isn't sitting with some random team. Nintendo knows full well their IP can't under deliver to the market, and that it will need to live up to lofty expectations. I'm sure that while Namco Bandai is developing the game, they're fulfilling the wishes Nintendo aims to achieve.

I could imagine some talented Souls guys putting together a Metroid if they took the right direction with it; the Souls games do have some of the essence of the original NES game. The hostility of place itself, some of the confusing areas that wrap back around on themselves, being pretty much on your own most of the time, provided you don't summon.

I would be surprised to see another Prime so intricately designed as the trilogy--that takes massive amounts of a certain kind of skill, and lots of time, which is one of the reasons it's so rare to see; but if they could pull off an NES-style, hostile planet, solitude, atmospheric thing, I think that would be their best bet, and I'd be happy with that.

My fear is a "flashy" story-heavy mediocre handholdy thing, but it'll at least be fun to see what they end up doing.

Should cite the source of the original news. Wasn't multiple internet rumours or a leak; it was a result of extensive LinkedIn stalking from a Youtuber named Doctre8

God Speed, sir.

Regarding this info as whatever (rumor, fact, etc)..I'm surprised that this isn't being internally watched over like a hawk. It sounds like Nintendo's lead developers trust their vision and then they'll just check in from time to time in order to maintain the spirit of the series.

In this day and age it's probably gotten to where outsourcing is a lot easier because you can communicate with the team members.

I know them as a publisher, but what good games have Namco actually made themselves and not just published ?

I'm sure Nintendo will quality control the fuck out of this, but them outsourcing their own IP's to questionable devs was bound to happen considering their strategy with the Switch is to rush out as many of their best known games as fast and as constantly as possible to keep people interested in the Switch.

(EDIT: Image won't work?)

Be awesome if we could get the Dark Souls team in on it.

They'll make Samus even more visually pleasing, which will trigger a lot of loud people.

It's a Namco-game. Even their racing games have cutscenes.
Even if it were internally developed it would be a miracle if it didn't have cutscenes.

I'd trust whoever was responsible for Bloodborne looking the way it does with Metroid's art direction.

When did Doctre81 first suggest Bandai Namco were the devs?

Posted a Youtube video a few days ago which got everyone talking about this again. Rumours have been around for a while but it wasn't until this video was uploaded that everything kicked back off

I agree. If true, this is pretty much the same situation as with Samus Returns, where Nintendo partnered with MercurySteam. People were vary of that partnership also at first, but it turned out pretty well. I'm sure Tanabe trusts the new teams vision like Sakamoto did with MS.

Right. Good find (still surprised devs post info on Linkedin) but the user here Feffe called Bandai Namco back in August. https://www.neogaf.com/threads/saka...ns-and-metroid-prime-4.1423128/post-246874566

Feffe said:
It will be be Bandai Namco.

You can mark this post for reference :)

But that's FROM. They aren't owned by Namco .
If Nintendo wanted From software to work on it they would have just gone directly to the them like Sony did for Bloodborne

From the sound of it, this is being made by Namco internally

That is quite surprising. But if you consider that Bandai Namco had worked on several Nintendo Ips, Pokken, Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS, Mario Kart for Arcades, is not that weird. But I never thought that they might be behind this. Nonetheless, I believe that the development will be like, Nintendo giving directions and Tanabe close to the development team, so I don't think that quality will be no issue. But I can see people fearing that this ended up been another Metroid other M.

If this is true, so the Ridger Racer 8 will one of the exclusives games Namco mentioned ? And with Prime 4, the other could be a Taiko no Tatsujin ? I hope that they did not count Prime 4, and we got something else from them. That Tales of , so far we got no updates regarding is it is a port or a new game.

I like the ideia of other companies working with Nintendo IPs, but since their are using their own ideas, like Mario + Rabbids. But lets see still early to be concerned.

And if this turns to be true, this guy here was right :

Well, what can i say.... why not MercurySteam which did a fantastuc job making Samus Returns? I mean... these guys can do a lot more than just a 2.5D action/adventure game and they did with the first Lords of Shadow. It sure wasn't a greatest game ever made but sure as hell the best 3D Castlevania ever. I don't know, i can only hope that this NB team wont fuck it up.

Didn’t the Ridge Racer rumour come from a guy’s Linkedin profile that said he was working on an unnanounced Switch FPS IP (Metroid 4) and Ridge Racer for Switch?

I don’t see how this dispels that rumour.

Hmmm. Still a little disappointed it's not Retro but BN have proved to be pretty good when working on Nintendo's properties. And it sounds likes Nintendo is pretty okay with the direction they're going so time will tell, I guess.

Is this good or bad news?
I think it's interesting, potentially scary news. But not good or bad.

Does this make it very unlikely that any members of FROM would contribute? If so I might change my other reply closer to "bad news".

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna go with "mildly bad news".

They did a pretty good job with smash brothers but when it comes to the prime series it seems like an odd decision to keep the original developers being retro completely out of the it’s development.

Hopefully it stays away from the likes of other m and just goes for the depressing and adventurous solo tone of the original prime games.

Has bandai even made any fps proper? I agree they did good on smash bros and i love me some dark souls and dbz, but bandai isnt the first company that comes to mind when i think of metroid prime 4 or first person in general.

People reacting to this are really just reacting for no reason. There was a horrible reaction to who and how the original Prime was being developed, meanwhile people celebrated at the Team Ninja collaboration, and look how that worked out. This could go either way, depending on how involved Nintendo gets and how much time/talent is allocated to it. We have no idea how this will go, so being cautious is probably the best way to go rather than being angry, or excited.

So, Eurogamer is reporting on a source made by youtuber, in which he made a video on a LinkedIn that had falsely put Ace Combat 7 as a exclusive to PS4 when it's multi-platform.

..Guess we should all believe it at this point...
