Morgan Freeman is sorry he made anyone uncomfortable

Haven’t seen it posted. He allegedly is a creepy old man. The stories are pretty odd

Here’s what he allegedly did https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/24/entertainment/morgan-freeman-accusations/index.html

He is sorry http://ew.com/movies/2018/05/24/morgan-freeman-sexual-misconduct-apology/

I wonder if it's the power of celebrity that does this to people, or the people being shitty somehow has some correlation to becoming a celebrity.

Or if the percentage of creeps in Hollywood is really no different than the percentage of creeps in the real world and it's just the only place we're really hearing about it all the time. Like the HR department in my company would murder anyone who tried shit like this.

Maybe it's more that Hollywood is just a land of contracted labor, so there really isn't any kind of system in place to prevent this.

Like do people in Hollywood have to take a sexual harassment training every year like probably most people in corporations do?

Washington Post article behind a paywall. So he admitted to it? Then he does deserve the pushback from this, and I'm surprised there's not been a lawsuit.

Weird, I disabled the ad-block and it still forced me to log-in. Might it be a difference between countries?
I wouldn't doubt that they'd do both.

I updated op

Thanks, it's a pretty terrible response for his own sake, because it leads to believe it's all completely true by his admission. Some of the accusations are within the bounds of just being creepy, but others are clearly sexual harassment and something that I would assume would be criminal. Like lifting skirts and "sexual touching" (no indication to what extent "sexual touching" means though).

There's such an odd and emotionally chaotic polarization of attitudes towards celebrities today. Either they are wonderful, beautiful people whose every little statement or appearance is meaningful (by this I mean, those who watch a show like Ellen and get bizarre joy out of every recognizable face going on the couch, as if these people embody our hopes and dreams) -- or, after anything surfaces that one of these people is acting creepy or aggressive, they are catapulted to the opposite extreme, and treated as a pure demon whose past appearances even need to be burned, digitally removed from all films.

How about... celebrities are humans and therefore extraordinarily flawed, so let us not act surprised when they are even more flawed than our nearest neighbor, because status and money at that high level has almost the universal effect of magnifying your vices over time far more than your virtues.

Another lefty pervert? Quelle surprise.

As if we don’t have enough crazy shit from conservative televangelists and priests to last us for centuries.

If we’ve learned anything, it’s the more you think “we’ll at least I’m not surrounded by a bunch of creeps and diddlers”, chances are extremely high that you’re surrounded by a bunch of creeps and diddlers. Neither side has a monopoly on this.

Also that guy from Catfish, Nev was under investigation. He seems like such a nice dude. I hope that is a misunderstanding.

And that nasty chef Mario Batali - who people had been saying he was a jerk for years, but now he has some serious allegations.

To some degree, I suppose with money, power and fame, these people have something others want and they start to believe they can offer it for a 'price'. It's not like they are accustomed to having a 'boss', so to speak, to immediately answer to. I am thinking it's like growing up without parents, you learn that you can get away with anything.

first of all, let's make it clear, he did all these things and he apologized about them. can't say I'm not disappointed by this and his action was definitely not acceptable.

however, and I'm sure a lot of people would call me out on this, my first reaction after reading up what all the offense were was "thank goodness that's all!". I know sexual harassment should not have any difference with what they do and his action was definitely it. but it also makes me feel that it's more along the line of something that was more... "acceptable" (which actually isn't that fitting for what I'm trying to convey but I'm drawing a black on how to say this) back in yhe old days in the Hollywood industry and that he just never got anyone to point it out to him and correct him on it. case in point, the whole thing with "Alan [Arkin] made a comment telling him to stop. Morgan got freaked out and didn't know what to say." yes he was trying to lift a girl's skirt in real life instead of some anime, but that whole thing just feels like some old man doing some stupid shit he shouldn't have done but didn't realize how bad or why it's bad.

maybe I'm just trying to make this whole thing a little easier to take in by make thing up these excuse. maybe Morgan Freeman is a total pervert and a creep in private. but as a UFO poster once said, "I want to believe."

True, people make mistakes. Sometimes we see a wrongdoing as an intentional action, as in I know I shouldn't but fuck it.

When people make mistakes, there should be an admission, reflection, education, and road to redemption. If society isn't willing to participate in the last 2 (for most mistakes), no one is going to participate in the first 2.

Hopefully everyone involved in situations like this will complete all 4.

That's a shame, I still love his work and will continue to watch his movies though.
This doesn't take away how awesome of an actor he is.

It's good if he's genuinely willing to change and be more proper in the work space.

To what extent was the misconduct? Criminal levels? Do we know, or is that still not proven?

I’ve been keeping a list of men in entertainment or politics that have been accused of rape or sexual harrassment in the past year or so. I guess for when people end up forgetting in 5 to 10 years. I don’t know. It’s weird, I know but it was just starting to get to be too many to keep track of. Anyway, here’s the list I have:

Kevin Spacey
Louis CK
Harvey Weinstein
Charlie Sheen
Brian Singer
Roy Price
Ben Affleck
George HW Bush
Dustin Hoffman
Brett Ratner
Stephen Seagal
Bill Cosby
George Takei*
Jeremy Piven*
Al Franken
Matt Lauer
Johnny Depp
Charlie Rose
Donald Trump
Roy Moore
Danny Masterton*
Max Landis
James Franco
Scott Baio
Morgan Freeman

Ones with an asterisk next to the name have vehemently denied all allegations and honestly there’s not much proof to them.

What should be shocking about that little fact is how many men on this list either don’t deny the allegations or have given weak responses.

Fuck this. Freeman will not go down for trying to lift a girls fucking skirt. He also apologized.

We already lost the greatest actor of our time, Kevin Spacey, to this metoo bullshit. I won't let Freeman.

No I think your getting at the idea of the idea of 'playful flirting' that to he honest, was probably not unusual of his era, but that sort of thing hasnt flown for a long time and he should have known that.

He wasnt at the level of forcing himself on anyone but he certainly made a lot of people very uncomfortable around him which is completely unacceptable.

At this point in time it seems like next to no one in the entertainment industry doesnt have something to hide.

I told a friend months ago that if Larry David, Tom Hanks, or Morgan Freeman ever get outed I'm moving to Mars.

This isn't exactly Kevin Spacey here, but still sad to hear. That said, I'll wait til more comes out. It's really really fucking hard for me to not love Morgan Freeman. I've been such a massive fan for decades.

He lifted a skirt and made flirtstious comments - please lock up ALL men right now.

This sorcerer hunt is ridiculous. Have the people outraged (tm) by this ever thought about the end game? At some point, all good actors will be ruined for petty things they did decades ago. Instead of retrospectively ruining great actors, how about stopping those that are committing crimes now?

I'm fully expecting Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise to be 'exposed' at some point, too. And it won't make their fantastic movies one iota worse.

Eben then, we should differ between someone using his/her power to rape someone, or someone who's just being cocky and having fun. The latter might make some feel uncomfortable, but that's okay, everyone feels uncomfortable for different things. However, if we refuse to make that distinction, #metoo will become even more of a joke than it already is for many.

And now make another 'Now you see me' movie :)

This is like saying that there is no difference between murder and running a red light. Being a creepy flirt isn’t the same thing as drugging women and raping them. One is inexcusable and one is, frankly, human nature.

Given the volume of the claims and the persistence over time, you're just going to have to let it go.

Not Morgan Freeman ... He was by far one of my favorite actors. Not defending the guy if he did this but damn, this sucks. I will say that it’s probably not fair to compare this to what Bill Crosby did.

His reaction to the accusations is sort of similar to Kevin Spacey’s reaction.

Wonder who will piss off the Illuminati next. Sheesh, I bet a lot actors have skeletons in their closet.

I honestly trust the reporting on this since it was broken by CNN less than I would if Weekly World News put it out. CNN has done everything they can do since Jeff Zucker became President to become the Tabloid News Network.

This is the same news org that turned the Carnival Triumph "disaster" into a reality show, ran loony MH370 "news" for months, and who now breathlessly panders to left wing chicken littles who think the world is ending because of Trump.

Hollywood has always been full of sexual deviants... it's practically a prerequisite. None of this ever surprises me...

Yeah, we really gotta get rid of this ridiculous notion that celebrities, politicians, any public figure are suddenly some kind of role model. Parents, teachers, police officers, etc are supposed to be role models, not random famous people...
