Just watched this and was going to make a thread damn it! Haha

Anyway, at first I was shocked at how pikachu looked, but it grew on me quickly, I think it could actually be quite good.

It's kinda surreal that this movie is getting made.

CGI looks horrible and I don't dig the stuffed animal aesthetic they are going for.... but I'll watch it. Looks pretty fun otherwise

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Why is Charizard furry? It's a lizard, it should have scales.

Doesn't look furry to me
I just watched it again in full screed an it does appear to be scaly. Must have been artifacts at the regular tiny YouTube size.

Pikachu is furry and has a whiskey voice? What?

I’ve got mixed feelings. On one hand, this looks much better than I expected. On the other hand, real life Pokemon. I guess it’s a novel new take on the franchise. If I don’t remember incorrectly, they shot some of that in London.

what the god damn shit.

this could have been SO cool. those realistic pocket monsters and the live action works for the most part. well most of them. mr. mime is dumb af and doesnt fit.

Listen guys, be happy you're getting basically 1:1 translation of the Pokemon instead of.... Interpretations Hollywood has so failed in giving us before.

Look at Godzilla 98, Bay Transformers, and the recent TMNT movies. Yeah, let's be happy.

Not bad at all - although I'd love to have them make it real R rating like Ted or sort... but I know it's never gonna happen. :)

Michele

HMMMMMMMMMMMM....

Is it just me, or are those creatures....c-c-creepier than I-I thought....?! I-I thought they were c-cute.....

I would not call this 1:1 They look like dolls left in the attic for 40 years.

Wouldn't call it 1:1. The pokemon look more like sentient stuffed animals than real creatures.
But at least it looks like some effort and thought went into this, it doesn't seem to have the highest budget but it doesn't look like a cheap cash grab either.

To be fair mr Mime is also dumb af and doesn't fit in the world of the games/anime either.
"Here's all these cute and/or cool looking creatures that are mostly based on animals....... and this weird thing that looks like a creepy deformed human but you can own one as a pet"

I just cannot stop hearing deadpool's voice coming out of a pikachu. Bit too jarring for me but I'll probably watch this eventually.

Edit: Here is the poster too.

This just feels weird, I don't know what to think. It has Pokemon characters, but it sure as hell doesn't feel like one.

This looks like a lot of fun....but the future city is giving me ever so slight Super Mario Bros movie vibes.

Looks great to me. Remember its a kids movie too.

And the Pokemon look great. Making a cute furry Pikachu is genius.

I don't do anything Pokemon and I am interested in the movie.

Its the lighting and the not so well done 3D models. basically space jam like visuals happening here, except is cartoon 3D models and not 2D Cartoon drawings

The blur artifacts is making it look furry.

There is a blend of cartoony style and realism happening here, we are getting uncanny valley perhaps?

look at that silly cartoon face above then look below and oh my god those high detailed teeth XD

I'm actually really surprised how good the Pokemon look.
Sure they are obviously CGI but the designs look pretty faithful and they don't look as scary or awkward as I would expect when blended with the real world and real actors.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that I think the movie looks amazing or anything but the Pokemon themselves look a lot better than I expected. If I was a fan of the franchise I'd actually be pretty excited just to see them on the big screen looking as good as that.

The pokemon look just like what I imagined a live action pokemon movie would look like as a kid. Except I wasn't imagining a detective pikachu plot.

Oh, god. Perfect description.

The Pokémon seem to be in the uncanny valley of realism. That jigglypuff is unsettling.

As someone said, the problem is everything has a stuffed-animal texture and look to it.

Jigglypuff is supposed to be rubbery and squishy. Psyduck is a bird. The only one I think looks right is Pikachu - he actually looks great.

Looks way better than it ever should have. Can't wait. Love the neo noir look too. It's essentially a Pokemon version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit

At first I thought it's a parody trailer, rewatched the trailer multiple times and am so waiting for the release :D it's a movie I never expected to want or need, but I really want to see this now lol. Also loving the poster, can I get that as print somewhere?

Looks good but terrible decision on who to voice Pikachu

I don't see the problem with it. When I heard Ryan Renolds was doing the VA, I thought to myself, "What the actual fuck? That's not going to work out." Then I saw this trailer and couldn't be more relieved. Good job to whomever chose this guy. Danny Devito would of been a good choice though, too.

I would like Danny Devito as Psyduck more than Pikachu.

It’s like a stop sign doesn’t exist in Hollywood.

This shit was made with animation in mind for a reason.

Have no clue what Detective Pikachu is, or how this came about, but that's a surprisingly good trailer. Can't believe I want to see a Pokémon movie.

That Danny Devito thing is amazing, they should use the idea for a Sunny episode.

I fear what furries will do with this new material. Realistic fury pokemon that come in all shapes and sizes....the lewd fan art draws itself.
