What about my blu-ray movies? :goog_confounded:

They kept the sexiness.
That’s one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is it’s going to cause Wii U levels of confusions due to looking identical so I bet there’s going to be people returning once they realize they bought the wrong system.
Given the cost of a disc-drive... at best it's probably only going to be $50 less than the the Xbox One S MSRP.
Id say it’s important to keep in mind that it’s a UHD Blu-ray Disc drive which is generally more expensive than the regular models. Not exactly a $50 difference but still.

Already have one. I wouldn't pay more than $99 for something like that. They are already dirt cheap at this point even with free games.

A disc drive allegedly cost about 20 dollars to make during manufacturing, how much realistically do we expect this to cost? Id say anything over 150 and its a flop. I also don't see the point of having a discless box when almost all games are downloadable anyways. People are celebrating having less features and options.
There are also licensing fees involved with just allowing different forms of video playback per machine. If you're selling millions of consoles, those licensing fees add up to a lot. Also this is one less moving part that has the possibility of breaking. Not mention, disc capacities have failed to keep up with other storage. What's the point in supporting it when after updates your game install will far exceed the disc anyway.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Man, I just don’t feel like I need an S.

I know someone jumps everytime I say this, but I’ll say it again:

Give me a cheaper, discless X and I’m there first day, pre-ordered paid off in full. (I know, I know, I get slammed every time I post this.).

I’m just saying an S doesn’t intrigue me this late in the game. If I could possibly get my hands in a brand new D for 350 bucks or less I’d happily sign up

Just my perspective

Understandable. I don't think I've ever used the disc drive in my X, so if I could have had a cheaper option without one I would have jumped on it too.

Well with all the moving parts gone around the Drive, plus the Drive, that's already around $50.

Another thing to consider is that all the components for detecting the disc and parts of the cooling system will also be removed since there's no Drive.

Then you have cost savings for not doing much, if any, real design changes from the regular S, and being around the same size means no additional manufacturing costs.

So it's possible we are looking at $99-$125.

This simply isn’t realistic...

I have no idea what they think this will accomplish so you're probably right.

Basically, they're trying to sell a landlocked device (in part), its an weak machine for 2019+ and at the end of the gen, all they are doing is continuously stripping off features, this device should have been under $179.99 before, let alone the second half of 2019 without a disc drive.

That just seems a little bit lazy, just a little bit mind but surly they could have slimed it down now it doesn't have an optical drive. Suppose the hardware design team has been busy with the new xbox.
I'm not really surprised- it's the same cost-saving strategy they employed when designing the Elite controller: Retrofit the existing schematic by adding / removing some extra holes during machining, then add / remove components as necessary.

Any additional news on only sold online?

$99-129.99 probably would sell some units, just because.
$129.99-149.99 probably would sell some units over 6 months
$149.00-179.99 small spike in sales, maybe a month or two
$179.00+ doesn't matter

If they announce a Xbox Two at E3, much of the above will probably be cancelled out, except the first one.

To be honest, I think everyone's in Microsoft's head at this point. No real direction, all over the place. Sure they're trying to retain customers until all their services are done but it just seems a little late for all this.

Man you sure love going into every MS thread huh.

Your post reads like an Xbox One X pre-reveal rant.

Also not sure where you got online sold online from, no rumor source even mentioned that.

Im thinking $149 at the very least.

I honestly dont know if i would buy even if it is cheaper, considering their exclusives are not only coming to PC, but apparently even Switch (Cuphead and maybe even Ori)

BOM for regular BD is around 15$, UHD drive is around 30$. I don't think that price would go down notably because lack of optical drive. Also, 3 games will be in bundle ( download codes of course ).

"Leaked", "rumor"... no, viral marketing PR to their partners.

Anywho, I hope it is smaller, and not just like those ugly Photoshop "renditions" they did off their MS email.

This is what's been bugging me, is it really that big of a cost saving that it justifies the loss of function?

This circles back to what I’ve been saying since the beginning.

I’ve always said that if they knock 100-150 bucks off the price of a discless X, or next gen system, id be lined up Day One

People pounce with the manufacture cost of drives and say that couldn’t happen

Well I’m sorry but the disc drive functionality is worth at least 100 dollars to me, easily. I don’t see this succeeding if it’s only 20 bucks difference. Even 50 bucks difference isn’t close to being worth losing the drive, imo

So what’s the point then?

It makes sense that they would put out a super cheap XBone, but doesn't make sense to me they wouldn't then make it as cheap as possible, and shrink the size. Like having a 1TB drive instead of a 500GB.

I was imagining it being about half the size of the S and X.

I also still believe it should've been named D so it can be easily differentiated, instead of the unnecessary super long naming addition on top of Xbox One S.

I don't get the price confusion here.

You don't just put a disc drive in a console and call it a day, even a 4k one, you have to add sensor and balance support and add cooling solutions.

With a All digital Xbox One X all of these will be removed because there is Zero moving parts in the console. Minimsl system cooling would be all that's needed.

That's already over $100 in savings per box. Add in the fact it's designed to basically look like the S and have similar dimensions and nothing has to be added to the manufacturing process.

Xbox One S will likely get an official price cuts to $200 from $299 this year after the new console announcement is right near the holidays, maybe in October. A version with no moving parts is going to be cheap.

Sorry but the PSP go was slow, laggy, and horrible with PSN on it. PSP go was running on mostly 2004 tech.

Probably going to be $149 or $129. I won't be getting it because I expect xbox game pass to move with xcloud and it would be on the switch. So I can play banjo kazooie on the switch through xcloud.
PSP sold the double of units than Xbox One. And to remove a disc drive would save them just $5 or max $10. It doesn't make sense to release a disc less XBO. At all.

So this is really like a stripped down “E” version of the Xbox One. Bit silly of MS to name it the “One S All Digital Edition”, especially if it supposedly looks similar to the S. I can see people getting confused.

It makes sense from a profit perspective but not for the consumer.

The cooling is for the CPU and the GPU, not the disc drive. Since this will still have them, they cannot remove the cooling aspects.

It is not about saving cost, it is about increasing revenue and profit. Without a disc drive, you would be more likely to purchase Game Pass, buy movies digitally, and of course buy games digitally from Microsoft (as that is your only option). Whether it is "worth it" depends on the individual consumer.

I think this is the big one. Probably why we are also seeing rumours of the combined gold/game pass subscription. Wouldn't be surprised if they announce both this console and that new subscription option around the same time.
