Since they're going for the most well known characters usually it's probably either Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui or Haohmaru.

Some Metal Slug character with all kinds of tricks, weapons and tools would be cool. I love SNK fighting games and SamSho but another melee/sword/whatever fighter would be less unique. Still cool as fuck though if they get the design right so whatever I guess.
It's probably a SamSho character given the timing and the latest game in the series also getting on Switch. Probably one of the main dudes like Ryu for Street Fighter even rather than some of the quirkier mofos. Haohmaru.

SNK is certainly big enough for a DLC pack as they're pretty huge in Latin America and China and they're still a major part of Japanese gaming history.
As for who makes it in for them that's a good question. Terry seems like the obvious pick although him and Haohmaru have been making the rounds so Kyo might get it. I'd personally find classic Athena or a Metal Slug character to be a better fit myself.

Apparently there have been some previous hints indicating Nakoruru which makes sense. Shodown is coming to the switch and she is as central to the series' image as Haohmaru is. The DLC has been all male to this point too and she would help break that up a bit.
I just hope whoever it is they use NeoGeoland as the stage and just go balls out with the music from all over SNK.

The Metal Slug cast would actually be a pretty good choice for Smash! There's 6 main characters to pick from, four of which could each be treated as alternative skins (two men and two women), kinda like Hero with his 4 character skins.
And the different weapon types, the grenades and various other gameplay gimmicks that have popped up throught the series long history could easily be turned into a solid moveset, not to mention the Metal Slug tank itself could easily be incorporated into a final smash!

Kyo with Iori as an Echo Fighter would be rad.

I'd be cool with Hayabusa as Tecmo-Koei is one of the last big companies in need of representation. I would have preferred Angelique but Hayabusa is certainly the most sensible choice.

I think Simon Belmont and Ryu were the two omissions from the NES area that stood out prior to Ultimate. We got Simon, so Ryu would just perfect the whole thing.
