3ds emulation on Android. It's here and it's playable.

So a new citra (3ds emulator) build for android emerged yesterday on a Chinese website and it's creating quite a buzz. For the first time, if you have a decent phone, games like ocarina of time 3d are playable. Check out this video:

This is an unofficial build. The team behind the pc version of citra is said to be working on their own version.
There have been previous unofficial citra releases on android, but this version is a game changer as it's much faster than previous ones.

EDIT: It's now on weihuoya's github. Get it. It's the one that says citra for android with JIT.

Given the leaps in tech with phones and the fact that they're basically surpassing the Switch in compute I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years time some working emulators start making their way to market.

Is this the one by the Dolphin MMJ devs or another one entirely? Because you say that this one is in violation of gpl but apparently the MMJ one isn't.

It's the same dev but he hasn't published the source of this new version. In fact he only uploaded the apk to a Chinese website you actually had to have a Chinese phone number to register in. The difference in gameplay speed from the old version is night and day.

Oh damn. I guess I should give this a try then. Thanks.

EDIT: hum, can you drop me a pm too? I can't find it myself.

This is old news. Xda reported on this on Sept 30th. Also he did release the source on GitHub after talking with the devs.

I was waiting for this!.... And I'll be waiting a little more for it to release an even more stable version, so it won't even have that hic-up when changing screens.
If my LG G6 can run PSP, then my next phone should be able to run a 3DS.

You can buy a 3DS for like 70 bucks. Playing games that are designed around buttons sounds like a bad time.

Think it depends on the game. I remember playing something like Fire Emblem and Advance Wars on my GBA emulator at the time worked very well on a phone.
Turn based RPGS in general might be fine as well.
Touch screen focused games would handle alright.

Yeah thanks for that but I guess you didn't read the whole thread.

TL,DR: This a new, much faster build than anything on github. The source is not available and it was dropped on a Chinese website where you had to jump through hoops to download it.

does this mean the Switch now run 3DS BC? Since Switch runs android.

Lol Didn't expect everyone to be so thrilled about stealing games.

Don't get me wrong I'm no saint, just surprised.
Gotta be a special type of dumb to automatically equate emulation with piracy. A hacked console can easily rip games which is not stealing.

You can legally back up games you own for your own use. I did it with all my GC, Wii, PS2, and PSP games, and a few of my DS games. I plan to do so with the rest of my DS and 3DS collection. It just makes sense with fragile disc games, and is convenient for all games.

It just makes sense, honestly, and lets you apply patches and mods. For example, ripping FFTWotL lets you apply a patch to it to get rid of the idiotic slowdown when attacking that rendered the original near unplayable for me. Various other games I wanted to play (Valkyria Chronicles 3, Nayuta no Kiseki, Ace Attorney Investigations 2) did not get English releases, so patching them was the only way to play.

I have never pirated a single game.

Because no ones ever done that before right genius. I don't really care I did it plenty when I was younger and had no money.

Do you need a picture of my 3ds games?
With a photo of a current newspaper please

Like clockwork, you can always count on some "deep-thinker" to make a post about equating emulation to piracy. This time we have the bonus of that poster also admitting to pirating games.

You can go back to putting your head in the sand since reality is too much for you to handle.

...hate me...
Phones have surpassed the Switch even before the Switch was released.
lol nope

TL;DR Switch running circles around the S9 while costing 1/3 and releasing way before. The Samsung S released before the Switch would be the S7 lol.

Passive cooling alone puts phones at a major disadvantage, especially GPU-wise.

So on a Note 9 I tried Mario 3D Land & Link Between Worlds. Both run at about 20FPS during gameplay so not quite playable. Not too sure if there are any options I can change to make it run faster. Maybe on a Note 10 it'll do the needed 60FPS.
