Overwatch'ing It: Overwatch 2 Trailer

Like I said in the ‘Con thread, this is how you make a sequel! I’m surprised and impressed with the cross play and cross progression between both games. I haven’t played OW for months but I’m interested again.

Seems to be a prequel though?

Honestly I still don't know how to feel about this. It just feels like an expansion rather than a full on sequel, so it's weird to call it that. But Kaplan DID say they're approaching the idea of a sequel a bit differently. It just still feels odd to me.

It is odd but if there’s enough new content I’ll be happy. It’s the only way to do a sequel for a live game without fucking over the dedicated players. If it was PC only they may well have called it an expac but it’s easier to wrap it as a sequel for current and next gen consoles.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Why does the game that spawned the hero shooter craze and remains super popular if declining because of this or that issue (they could fix with updates anyway, that's the point of games as service, right, so that they also keep monetizing them as they've been doing?) get a co-op focused sequel rather than DLC, expansion, expandalone or whatever thing that also links to the existing main PVP thing in terms of content and unlocks and shit? I'm not complaining, I don't do PVP. It just seems weird and like both will not be as popular as they could if they were interlinked sister products rather than one trying to propose itself as a successor, yet so different, to the other. It doesn't even look different visually to call it a huge upgrade since it still has to run on low end PCs. I'm not buying it before it proves itself beyond the honeymoon period but more co-op is always good.

Edit: okay so people say it's basically like what I was proposing, it includes all of 1 and 1 will be updated to match and cross play in terms of PVP (including new heroes, modes etc), they just call it a 2 and it's also an in-universe reason/thing to call it Overwatch 2. That's better if true.

But I don't get why 1 isn't (seemingly) getting the engine/visual upgrades to go with all the other stuff, that only makes it so they have to update and tweak everything they wish to add for two different variants just to maintain parity. Just patch OW1 into OW2's PVP and get it over with.

Left 4 Dead 2 from Blizzard

In case you guys don't get it, Left 4 Dead 2 was announced few months after the original game release and caused controversy, by many, its was considered an expansion pack. Months after its release, there was a DLC campaign for both games that included crossgame play for it and the port of No Mercy for L4D2, by 2011 the whole original game campaign was ported, so unless you prefer L4D1 gameplay settings, you could just buy the second game.

Tracers legs seem more toned now. This looks amazing as usual with Blizzard cinematic's. Of course they had to sneak in some ass shots for Tracer.

I really liked how the oroginal played and enjoyed a few dozen hours with it, but I'm just too old and have far too little time to get into competitive online shooters these days. Depending on how the PvE and story content pans out, I may be very interested in this.

Holy shit this looks amazing.

the highly replay able pve will be a wait and see but the carryover is just what I wanted

PvE was inevitable and looks amazing. The game has already laid the groundwork for potentially very addicting and rewarding PvE. Long overdue and much needed addition

What is this game I dont get it. Will ow get more heroes, updates? I'm not buying 2 just for pve. If ow2 is like ow 1 pve events, then lol it's going to suck. If ow doesn't get more update/maps/heroes then I'm dropping the game, hard.

Oh, so they finally gave the loud cunts crying about their shit-coloured rainbow of representation idiocy what they wanted, a black female hero. I wonder what random thing they will bitch and moan about next. That they don't have a trans hero? That they don't have a female hispanic lesbian owlkin hero?

I can understand that. I just almost feel like it would work better to almost call it anything else other than "2". It's just really hard to shake off that original feeling I have.

Seems more like a competitor to Destiny while maintaining the pvp core.

It's something that Team Fortress 2 should've done to stay relevant.
I mean, TF2 was relevant for a LONG time. At least for me. They at least had those player vs robot events that were pretty cool. I just want TF3, but lord knows it will never come. :(

Oh for sure, it was relevant for a very long time and it still has a loyal following, I'm just saying that if they had added some meat to those bones several years ago when they had the chance, the TF2 brand could still be going strong today.

You sound much more angry than the loud cunts themselves about that issue.

Well this lines up a bit with that 4chan leak supposedly from a former employee a bit back.

i think the gameplay trailer should alleviate your concerns

Boy did they swing and miss on Diablo IV, though.
I think there was a kotaku article or something that claimed they had multiple diablo games in the works, including Immortals. The leak may be referring to a side-game rather than D4.
Than again, a lot of that post seems like hogwash mixed with rumors that were already floating around.

The fact that Blizzard won't split the user base for PvP is a great decision. I was nervous they were going to abandon OW1 but this is an excellent move as well as being able to use all upcoming new heroes and maps for just owning OW1. I don't see any reason to complain about this at all.

So weird, so new maps and heroes will come to both OW1 and OW2, but OW2 has some new single-player and PVE modes, whereas OW1 has more PVP modes. It really makes no sense, so the only way to play some of the old OW1 modes is to keep OW1 installed.

Why wasn't the PVE stuff and that new PVP mode added to OW1 via an expansion, why the big sequel tag, even the graphics haven't really changed or been upgraded.

Baffling,

Yeah this confused me a bit.
So this sequel is aimed at OW1 players that are interested in PvE or brand new OW players who will buy OW2 rather than OW1?

Everyone else can just stick with regular OW1 and will still have access to all of the new maps, characters and PvP modes from the sequel without having to pay for anything?
