2K has announced that a BioShock title is in development at Cloud Chamber, a newly-founded development studio based in San Francisco and Montreal. Cloud Chamber is described as a "collective of storytellers eager to push the frontlines of interactive entertainment by making unique, entertaining, and thoughtful experiences that engage the world." According to 2K and Cloud Chamber, the BioShock title will be in "development for the next several years."

David Ismailer, president of 2K
"As we continue growing our product portfolio, we remain inspired by opportunities to invest further in our valuable IP, great people, and their collective, long-term potential. BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised, and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation. We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.”

Both Cloud Chamber studios will be headed up by Kelley Gilmore, who has significant experience in various aspects of game development and publishing. At 2K in particular, Gilmore has worked on the Civilization and XCOM franchises

Gilmore
"We founded Cloud Chamber to create yet-to-be-discovered worlds--and their stories within--that push the boundaries of what is possible in the video game medium. Our team believes in the beauty and strength of diversity, in both the makeup of the studio and the nature of its thinking. We are a deeply experienced group of game makers, including many responsible for BioShock’s principal creation, advancement, and longstanding notoriety, and [we are] honored to be part of the 2K family as stewards of this iconic franchise."

Remember this was coming to Vita? Don't get your hopes up.

Arkane Studios has been a better successor to Looking Glass than 2K could ever hope to be. I have no interest in Bioshock as a franchise.

I just played Infinite for the first time since launch and yeah, that game wasn't too hot. It sure had a lot of promise and could have been something good if Ken dialed back the high school philosopher wank a bit.

To me Infinite was a very good game, that could have been a Masterpiece but fell short of that. But still better than 90% of games out there.

I hate Infinite with a passion. First game that I had to force myself to complete. Absolutely awful in every way. They're going to have to do something real special here to get me to try again.

The real question is, how was this not in development for the past 4 years already??
Same thing I thought. Instead of:
According to 2K and Cloud Chamber, the BioShock title will be in "development for the next several years."
It needs to say:
According to 2K and Cloud Chamber, the BioShock title has been in "development for the past several years."

Is Ken Levine involved in this or will this be another Bioshock 2? No Ken no deal for me.

Edit - Ken Levine is not involved with this. Not that it won't be good but I am very skeptical it will be as good as the others.

Great. Now while we wait for the next installment give me the first Bioshock in VR with full hand tracking controls. I want to be inside Rapture and shoot plasmids with my own hands.

Hopefully it'll go back to it's RPG-like affair, I was quite disappointed with how linear and little progress Infinite made over it's predecessors, seemed much bigger in the trailers.

Does anyone else get the feeling that most devs just skipped this generation for one reason or another? Or put out token effort games to tide them over?

As if, somehow, or for some reason, their visions and ideas couldn't come to fruition with this gen, so they wait patiently for next-gen, which will be a greater leap forward?

Kinda disappointed to hear it's only begun development. I thought there were rumors of this being in development for years. In any case I hope they'll do the franchise justice.

Awesome news.

Loved BioShock and BioShock Infinite.

I hope they did not use a team B like BioShock 2.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Loved the first game and Infinite, didn't care much for 2.

Sounds like this is pretty early though, will be interested to see what they come up with considering it's guaranteed to a be a next-gen game.

I hope they stray from Elizabeth and have something new. I also want an expanded open sequence where I have more info on the rest of the world.

Seriously, they can do a game during the fall of Rapture and it would be GOAT.

Space? Other dimensions? Etc? Nah.

The exact night Rapture falls would beat all of them.

Wow sounds promising that a) narrative is at the forefront, not games as a service as rumoured. b) they are not rushing a new game out from a new studio.

Almost certainly a day 1 buy from me.

So somebody who worked on two franchises that are nowhere near FPS experiences like Bioshock leading the team for the next one...hopes very minimal that this turns out and I love the franchise

Here's hoping the next entry in the series won't be a convoluted mess filled with empty promises like Infinite turned out to be.
Dead on. I also hope they go back to the series roots of horror-inspired atmosphere and prioritizing different ways to handle encounters.
