So both, Nintendo and Microsoft copied Mark Cerny's PS4 centric social gaming philosophy and SHARE Botton...

rofl ... I remember a gaffer requesting MS to update the firmware on the original controller and make "SYNC" share button to copy SONY a few years ago.

and we are getting 15 threads about the console fitting your gaming setup and do you like the prism design...

Apparently, the Series 2 Elite Controller is already outdated a month after release as next year's controller will have "Share" button.

The Elite Series 2 is 229.96 CDN plus 13% tax.... here is On, Canada.

And sony copied shit from Nintendo, and ms copied shit from blah, and blah de blah blah...

What the fuck are you, 12? Every one of them copies the other with successful good ideas. That’s how business works. You can pick anything from any one of them and they will have nicked it. Look at trophies. Look at dual analog. Look at anything.

Grow up, kid.

Nintendo did it first... Someone will post it.... Oh wait, first post eh....

Sony never created nothing man, she just copy thing's... And she only won 3 generations on luck...

People always post these when someone compliments Sony.... :messenger_squinting_tongue:

But yes, you are right. And it's good, whatever that improves the player experience it's always good.

Sometimes I think half of the people on this forum are from Canada (like me).

Nintendo already had sharing and a social centric philosophy with the Wii U in 2012, well before the PS4 was even announced. “Copied from Sony” my ass.
I think what he means is the level of social integration. However, I think this has been evolving since early in consoles history, so giving all credit to one company over the other is a bit disingenuous.

I will list a couple of console examples here, they could have precedents (I suspect the Atari 2600 had some online service):
- Sega had their cable/electronic distribution service for the Genesis
- The Saturn had a modem accessory, it would let you connect to internet, play multiplayer games, browse the web or email!
- The dreamcast also offered an ethernet adapter (broadband internet)
- the OG xbox offered online accounts to keep stats, voice chat etc. - and they introduced charges for online play/most online features
- the 360 improved on the og xbox model for online services
- The PS3 had PS home for some reason
- the Wii U allowed you to share screenshots I guess
- the PS4 improved some more with instant share and constant video recording for streaming, you can also let your friend take control of the game you are playing, etc.

One thing that is rarely noted for company policies regarding online play, Sony does not require you to have a paying PS+ account to play F2P titles (Fortnite, Warframe, etc.) so free games are really free, unless this changes I don't think MS does not have such a gaping hole in their paywall.
I can even make wallpapers using the share button.
My share button is still in mint condition.

Its a good thing I guess? If is good, someone copy. Always happens. Not only with Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft, but Samsung and Apple as well.

Glad someone noted too.

Shit, sorry boys, I thought this was a discussion forum. I didn’t know there was a max limit on active discussions.

I’ll keep it to one a week. Somebody PM me Evillores address so I can send him some flowers.

How many people actually used the share button on the PS4 controller? I honestly think I've never pressed it once in over 5 years of owning a PS4.
I take screenshots every now and then (it's more convenient if you set it to tap->screenshot, hold->share menu - and also hide the screenshot notification). Mainly for my own personal amusement/new wallpapers.

Calm down mate. Was just observation. No big deal.

You've never taken a screenshot or saved a video of something ridiculous that happened in a game? I dont even have twitter or share them anywhere and i have gigs of random shit saved.
I honestly haven't. There's nobody on my friends list since I do all my multiplayer gaming on PC, so I wouldn't have anyone to share them with anyway.

which was a shittier version of PS HOME..
The quality of the service is immaterial. They had a social gaming services before the PS4 was even a thing.
And as a Wii U owner myself, it was actually more involved than the Sony version.
I haven't used the Share button since I bought the console, but I used Miiverse right up to it was terminated.

They did have the ability to take screenshots on the PS3 as well. Not as well implemented, obviously, but was still nice for when I was taking pics in MLB The Show at the time.

I don't understand how it's "shamelessly copied"?

Seems like it would inevitably become a standard function given the demand from players that want to share content from their console to social media?

You even admit yourself that people were requesting it from years ago.

I must remember that one though. When a company comes up with something good others must never ever say "hey what a cool idea, we should do something like that for our customers".

PSHome was a social gaming service as well. You can meet, chat, play games, and launch into games from that hub.

Pretty much this. Someone invented a wrist watch many years ago but now look at all these cheap fuckers copying them.

Triggers on a controller, thumb sticks and start/select buttons - so many things have been copied. Strange to single this one thing out.

Also, the functionality to share has always been there on Xbox One, the only change is that there’s a dedicated button for it now. Hardly a revolutionary thing to copy.

Was that really Cerny's own idea? While I don't question the guy's technical knowledge and skills, the PS4 was not designed, engineered and envisioned all by himself. I sometimes feel that he gets credit for too many things, like he's the only engineer and design person that Sony have.

Same happened with Gunpei Yokoi and the original GameBoy, which was actually heavily influenced by Satoru Okada (up to the point where they actually fought over some of the main features, Yokoi saw the GameBoy more as a successor to the Game & Watch, whereas Okada wanted to have a "Famicom on the go").

what? sharing has been there from day one on xbox?! xbox dvr??? xbox uplad studio? what are you talking about? you could just press xbox button + Y or X for screenshot or video. this is nothing new. they had this from day one.

stop lying and spreading bullshit OP! I bet you never had an xbox!

Oh please...everybody copies everybody and improve the design, which is a good thing.

I just don't care because those companies are in for the money and getting inspired by competitors is normal.

I just don't care at all because when it comes to games I'm like a whore who is loyal or attached to no brand. I just want the industry to stay healthy no matter who's leading the boat.

Yeah, pretty much. They all have to work off each other and improve upon what the competitor did. Which is a good thing in my opinion, because it forces the others to do it better or add their own little spin on it.

Thats how business works.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
The share button at the moment is something I believe everybody can use, once again SONY beat someone to the punch for a feature (Eye Toy Motion, VR etc.) in many cases Nintendo and M$ are catching up to SONY.

Copying good ideas from competitors is NOT a bad thing.

Nintendo gave us the d-pad, analog sticks, rumble.
Sony redesigned controller form factor, introduced dual analog sticks for 3d camera control.
Xbox introduced gaming achievements, system wide chat.

I WANT these guys to copy each other. It moves the industry as a whole forward three times faster.

So this is the fabled Console Wars then?
Listen, you little shits, Sega Genesis had Blast Processing!
Does your new fancy pants BoxStation X consoles have Blast Processing? Didn't think so.
Atari invented graphics before Playstation even existed!

ROFL. It's funny how Sony and Microsoft shamelessly copied Nintendo and Sega's idea of having fucking retarded fans.

Fuckin arguing over who came up with the idea of "sharing" first. :)

M Max_Po wait until you hear this crazy shit I am going to tell you.
Back in the days of arcade gaming and high scores lads used to record video of themselves and then submit these videos to have their high scores recorded. That's right, these ancient humans were "sharing" their best video game achievements with others in their community and social groups.

Mind blowing right?

Fuckin, imagine seriously thinking that Sony came up with the idea of social gaming!?
That's so crazy.

Here is how old I am. Used to be that I had to unplug all my stuff. Pack my console and games into a backpack then walk all the way over to my friends house and set it all back up so we could play together. Then later on I'd go over there to show him how to get past a bit in a game or he'd come over to our place to show us how to do a Mortal Kombat fatality or whatever.

Hang on... I took video game content from Point A to Point B so that it could be shared with my friends...
I was... sharing... my... gaming experience... with others...

OH MY GOD SONY SHAMELESSLY COPIED ME!!!!

You mean on the PS3?
Yeah, I was more of a Wii/360 kind of guy so I wouldn't know.
But if the PS4 version is any indication, I'm not expecting much from it.

More like Cerny copied the social sharing aspect society was accustomed to from their use of smartphones and social media.

The only issue with borrowing ideas from competitors I have is with Nintendo - they DON'T do it enough or, at least, not fast enough.

Feel free to steal system wide online party chat. Or achievements. Or any other things PlayStation and Xbox are currently doing better than you. There's no shame.

yeah I have to ssy the fact the switch doesn’t have a system wide achievement system is puzzling... but this is the same company that doesn’t even let you send messages...
