Xbox version of Assassin's Creed Valhalla will support Smart Delivery aka cross-gen buy.

Games cost the same for both.
But given the different architecture of the systems it was not just and update for the game you had to get the full ps4 version separate.

Here is a detailed run down how it worked back then.

We got ripped off in Europe then, I remember ps3 games being 59.99$ and then got bumped to 69.99$ with the PS4.

But I stand corrected, thanks for the link.

Exactly, games cost like 1499CZK (got Skyrim on X360 for 1050CZK), but when the next gen came prices got bumped to 1799CZK across the border. "It will drop over time", yeah that happened.

Europe is alwasy a ripp off.
Games should cost the same no matter where you are.
Even the store sale prices are way cheaper here then in europe and once you venture to eastern europe or australia south america it jumps again.
You would think in todays digital age this wouldnt be a thing anymore.
Its not like you have to pay vat or duties on digital content as it can be accessed in no time from around the world.

The power of marketing. Cross buy has been a thing for years, publishers just didn’t use it because there was no BC.

MS just gave it their own fancy name version. But this feature isn’t new.
My understanding was that while you might be able to buy a PS4 game and play the PS4 version on a PS5, for example, with Smart Delivery you can buy an XBO game and then it’ll download or patch it so you get the XBSX version when playing on XBSX. A free upgrade of sorts. I don’t believe PS has anything like this currently (or select titles had a paid version of this? Correct me if wrong).
But PS has not even revealed the console, let’s not forget all the other features it will have. So how are so sure already?
I think that’s kind of his point. Sure, they might have these features, but the point is we’re hearing about or being shown these Xbox features but getting nothing from PS. They could well show something equivalent later but the longer they wait to show them, the more people will either associate the features with Xbox or will simply see a later announcement as PS saying “but me too”.
Don't forget the part where they popularised paying for multiplayer.
While arguable, I think the quality of Xbox Live compared to PS online prior to PS online also becoming paid made the cost worth it to most.
I thought this was confirmed on Xbox for all games.
I believe it’s only guaranteed for first party, third party is case-by-case.

Again, the lack of clarity here is interesting. Are we speaking about backward compatibility here, with some slightly enhanced features? Or are we talking about an entirely separate game file that uses higher quality assets and needs to be installed separately?

Never played an AC game except dabbling with 360 demos and the full version of AC 1. Not sure why, but the gameplay with mobs of choreographed fights didn't really interest me. I've always liked open world games too, but AC never resonated.

This viking setting does though vs. other settings. Maybe I'll give it a go. Have a feeling my fam member on Xbox Sharing will get it, so I'll try it for free.

I’d suggest skipping most of the series and starting on Origins or Odyssey if you decide to give them a go.

Odyssey especially as it feels like the Witcher with competent combat.

I don’t know if I want to buy and pay straight away or if I should wait and hope it’s price drops in the annual Xmas sale.
It's a UBI game. The second it hits January, the game will be $30.

Years back, I remember seeing for many years in a row Costco Canada having clear outs of the new Assassin's Creed from months before for $20-25.

Then again that was when discs were still in full force. UBI probably had stacks of copies to dump. I don't know if their pricing strategies with digital are similar or if they now hold firm.

It’s hard to say, new gen means new strategies. I know what has worked for me in the past, but that doesn’t mean the same will apply going forward.

I just know I’m not going to play a game on my XB1X if I can play it better on my next gen console. So I can wait.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

They are talking about the "full" Series X version of the game. The game is releasing on both the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X. When you buy the Xbox One version, you also get the Series X version of the game.

This isn't just the Xbox One version running on the Series X - this is the same version of the game you would get if you bought the Series X version on disk.

Man I really hope Sony follow the same formula here. Granted it’s probably the first 1 year that we will see big games on cross generations but that will really help the consumers .

knowing how greedy Sony is I don’t see it happening but I hope I am wrong

bravo on MS for allowing this
I'm pretty sure Sony had cross-buy during the PS3 to PS4 transition too. MS have just called it 'Smart Delivery' this gen.

For the big games they did that upgrade program.

yup it was called the last of us and god of war 3 remastered lol
Yeah, they were remasters like MCC or Gears 🤷‍♂️

Point being this "Smart Delivery Technology" is just a buzzword for cross-buy which existed during the PS3 to PS4 transition and that gen was a lot more work to port.

Honest "smart delivery" doesn't sound that smart. I would imagine, something like installing SP first or MP first would fit the meaning of those words better.

Yeah you paid for a 60fps remaster just like somebody had to pay in FULL for Gears or MCC.

Yes it was free. For specific games you had cross-buy which was free of charge. This gen I suspect you would get even more support for cross-buy because porting is a lot less hassle nowadays. It's just like PCs now, not the same as having to develop for PS3 and then port to PS4.

Another thread turned into a ps5 FUD spreading thread...
No surprises here.
Maybe, just maybe, like VRS, these things can't be confirmed or denied because Sony hasn't officially talked about them yet and devs/publishers NDA's dont allow them to talk about it?

I don't think this will be standard. This seems to only be for marketing deals MS has. MS has big marketing deals for AC Valhalla and Cyberpunk.

Of course MS 1st party games will probably all use smart delivery too

Gears of War Ultimate Edition was a remake not a remaster and MCC was a collection of 4 remastered games and a remake of Halo 2. The same way FF7R isn't a remaster of FF7 it's a remake.

The Last of Us and GoW 3 were Remastered games.

There not the same thing.

ITT: People that don‘t realize cross-buy already exists on PS platforms for years. It‘s up to the developer to sell something as a cross-buy title.

I find the descriptive "either" to be quite interesting. Why not say both? Odd verbiage.

On PC it was since forever and who claims otherwise does not know industry good enough. This is just an info, not console wars.

Because if you get XSX verzi, you also get Xbox One...at least I guess, that their reason for this wording. Also if you say both, it may sounds for some like you have get both versions, people are really weird sometimes.

Man at a certain point the phrase death by a thousand cuts starts to come to mind. I'm by no means saying that Sony is going to fail this generation. In fact I'm sure they're going to be wildly successful. But with so many little features that Microsoft has and Sony doesn't it really is going to start to affect them in some capacity. They really need to get on top of this stuff sooner than later and address stuff like smart delivery and whether or not you have to buy a game twice across generations.

Microsoft wants consumers in their ecosystem more than anything else, this gen. Whether that be XB1, XSX, or PC. The amount of pro-consumer moves they're making in an effort to support that goal are staggering.

I'm just hoping their games can back these business decisions up. Only time will tell.

I can't see retailers being that happy. Any chance of marking up next gen versions of cross gen titles which support this is gone now.
They could just mark up the current gen version. Also I highly doubt smart delivery extends to physical copies, it's an incentive for digital purchases.

Europe's 70 € base price is including on average 20 % sales tax. US $60 has sales tax added on top. So the actual prices before tax are 58 € (roughly $64) vs. $60. Which is pretty much the result of age ratings and localisation of content and support. Nobody is ripped off.

My sales tax is 5 percent
Also there is no sales tax on store prices

Microsoft only needs more Japanese games (a.k.a. more waifus) to buy me in. I'm on the verge of buying an Xbox One X and then a Series X, but the laking of JRPGs (my favorite genre) prevents me from doing it just yet.

I'm still tempted to buy a Series X next year, though.
