Dark Souls 1 in the biggest drop in quality in the series

It definitely has the best level design and inter connectivity among all the Souls games, but I think overall , DS1 is the second weakest entry in the series (DS3 is the weakest). DS1 starts amazing up until Anor Londo, everything after that just degrades in quality for me. I know most people hate DS2 but I respect that it tried to do new things (and it still haves the best NG+ in the series and I wish DS3 would have implemented Bonfire Ascetics , such a good idea. I still love DS1 but I mostly stop playing it after Anor Londo these days since I can;t motivate myself to do the later levels anymore.

Just wait until you play Demon Souls, I know it was the one that started it all, but it was so full of jank.

Playing any of the a Dark Souls game is a blessing compared to how Demon Souls used to play.
You're literally the biggest Xbox dick rider on GAF.

What makes you think you have the right to give an opinion on possibly the most exclusive PlayStation IP outside of ND franchises?

OP, you're an idiot as well.

DS1 is my number one soulsborne game. The bosses don't hold up, but for the rest I love it. Demon's Souls holds up far worse, and while its probably the best in terms of settings, atmosphere and main hub, I think DS1 fixed a lot of issues I had with DeS.

DS1 has some shit areas. Everyone knows. But to me they didn't hurt the experience. And they're relatively small areas. There are effectively 2 areas I hate. Crystal Cave and Lost Izalith. The latter barely has any combat and you can safely run it naked.

So....

DemonS = +3
DS1 = -1
DS2 = +1
DS3 = -2

In order to make sense of your wordings? AKA you're hyped for the Demon Souls remake, but felt the need to depreciate the entry that more people appreciate?

Criticising Demon's Souls should be bannable offence at this point.

Its like saying Super Mario Galaxy is way better than Super Mario 64.... Yeah, no shit.

As for Dark Souls, it's ok. I wouldn't mind anyone criticising it.

When did I state I was hyped for Demon's Soul Remake? :p

Bad opinions thread?

OP is in the gif, that is why he dislikes the game.

All Souls-games are amazing and have their own unique things that make them great. 3 being the "least good" rather than the worst. I agree that some endgame-areas in Dark 1 felt pushed and pre-nerf Lost Izalith was a nightmare no matter your build. But Solaire's side quest climaxing there still let to the second most "feels" moment in the game for me.

About an hour later I went to Ash Lake and... I don't wanna talk about it.

Love all of them. Thought DS1 was a masterpiece, but almost rage quit on my first run after getting raped by the silver knight archers in Anor Londo. Lots of great stuff post Londo. Loved the Artorias, Kalameet & Manus fights.

I'd say the biggest drop in quality for the series is DS2 Frigid Outskirts. Don't get how such talented designers thought that was a good idea. Must've been on PCP. Demon's swamp is 2nd lowest point for me.

There's a big drope in quality because it was GOAT level game design until Anor Londo, and after that it's still better than Dark Souls 2 and 3, there's nothing in these games that hold a candle to anything until Anor Londo. I don't even think Dark Souls 2 and 3 are the legit successors of Dark Souls 1, they're just games Bandai Namco asked From to do for a price, while Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne, the real trilogy, are brainchild of Miyazaki.

There is a drop off in quality after Anor Londo - and I’ll argue until I’m blue in the face that Ornstein and Smoug are too difficult for a lot of players, requiring many to level up so much that it makes the rest of the bosses too easy - but it’s still an incredibly well thought out game even on the back end (with the exception of Izalith, which even Miyazaki hates).

I agree the quality drop so hard after anor londo . Lost Izalith, Demon Ruins and Tomb of Giants level design is so bad compared to the first half area .

I still don't understand the problems people have with O&S fight. You literally have a Solaire summon super close to the boss. I never NEVER fight 2 vs 1 fights alone in souls games. I feel like the game is breaking our sacred law of 1 vs 1 challenges so I call for summon help.

It’s a combo of things. First there’s that whole getting past the archers deal, which still grates after nine years. Then on the run to O&S you have to make that awkward jump over the stair railing, then kill the silver archer and the two palace guards if you want Solaire, then the hardest fight in the game.

I love the fight myself, it’s easily the most heart pumping, but objectively it is too difficult for the point it comes at in the story... hence why so many people over level for it, eventually beat them, and find the rest of the game too easy. Going from O&S to the Lordvessel bosses is an idiotic drop off in difficulty.

Pretty much. Demon's Souls was an amazing game for its time but it's been completely outclassed by subsequent FromSoftware adventures.

Wait a sec... you think DS2 is better than both DS1 and DS3?

I'd go along with this as well. DSII is awesome.

Demons Souls was a broken mess. Dark Souls fixed everything. It's like night and day. Everything felt so much better in Dark.

It was not a broken mess. Yes a lot of things got improved in the souls series but saying demon's was a hanky broken mess is flat out wrong. I must have played a different game to the rest of you or something.

I also only played Demon's after playing the souls series, so it's not even a case of first love.

Just from your comment about DS2. Lol no.
DS2 is not in anyway on the same level as the other souls games.
Looks different, feels different, NPC’s arent the same.

I literally rolled the first second and realized miyazaki didn’t make this game, its way different and not in the same class.

You can tell the difference Miyazaki made DeS, DS, DS3, BB and Sekiro.
They all look similar and feel similar, the Roll, NPC’s, level design, even Sekiro.

DS2 feels like Miyazaki‘s cousin made it with a small european team. Probably the same team that made Devil May Cry 2....

PS Demon Souls is not broken Lol. Its one fo the best games of the generation by far

Like somone else said - "opinions man!"

It's, kinda, the GOTG of the 7th gen but, uhm.

It has, well, inspired, er, like, hundreds of other games.

I mean... the "the Dark Souls of (x)" meme was still going just a couple of years ago.

So... well... I... uhm...

Nah. You're wrong, OP. So very, very wrong.
