Dark Souls 1 in the biggest drop in quality in the series

lol @ the legend of the "Dark Souls first Half"

Like the only problematic part is the dragon legs one and it lasts like 2 minutes. Everything else in the second half is magnificent and the dlc is top class.

Izalith is crap, but you’re right on the rest of it. It’s just that pre lord vessel it’s so damn perfect, and the second half suffers a bit in comparison.

You can't say "biggest drop" if you're comparing it to games that came later.

IMO it's the biggest leap the series made. Huge improvement over DeS. None of the later games have as big improvements (except maybe BB, but that's a different series).

It was not a broken mess. Yes a lot of things got improved in the souls series but saying demon's was a hanky broken mess is flat out wrong. I must have played a different game to the rest of you or something.

I also only played Demon's after playing the souls series, so it's not even a case of first love.
sorry I was just memeing I guess it didn't come across

Demon's had too much obscure shit and systems that work against you to be the series GOAT. Character and world tendency resetting to the worldwide average after a boot was a choice that just kept the worldwide average smack bang in the middle. It was a self-perpetuating cycle that was only broken by events choosing to do so. It also suffered in comparison by lacking the needed refinements of future titles, such as the carry limit.

1 was fantastic. Shame about the end. But solid.

2 was fundamentally busted because it went out of its way to fuck up the movement. Everything else is irrelevant when it controls like shit.

3 was "What happens when you forget 2 existed, even the few good things, and throw back to 1 but make it more like Bloodborne with some Demon's throwback for good measure". Just behind 1, for me.

I've yet to play Bloodborne and Sekiro, but they both interest me greatly.

Bloodborne > Demon's Souls > the entire "Dark" series.

You know it's true, I couldn't do more than about 10-15 hours of DS 1-3 because they just never grabbed me and like Demon's Souls: and to be fair, Demon's Souls was played at a time where I wasn't very well off financially and put about 500 hours into it over the course of 2 years so my opinion is EXTREMELY biased.

Bloodborne I felt changed the combat loop enough to feel like an actual sequel not just "isolate, fight one on one and you'll be fine for the entire series!" And the change of scenery felt very, very fresh.

I swear I should've typed it down.
I was expecting it as soon as the remake was announced.
"They will act like DeS is the best thing ever and DaS sucked".
The same will happen to every series that reverts back to being a PS timed or total exclusive. Final Fantasy is next.

To be fair, Demon's has had its die hard fans for years. Either they're just speaking up more because of the remake or they've been joined by the fanboy.

1. Bloodborne 9.5/10
2. Dark Souls 9/10
3. Demon’s Souls 8.5/10
4. Dark Souls 3 8/10
5. Sekiro 8/10
6. Dark Souls 2 7.5/10

This is the correct order, and correct scores. If you disagree, please seek professional help at your earliest convenience.

Demon's > DS1 > BB > DS3 > DS2. Two, while still a good game, is the worst by far. Nonsensical level design, too many forgettable bosses, and artificial difficulty, with gank squads everywhere. The Shrine of Amana is probably the worst area in any of the games. I'm replaying it at the minute. The DLC is a pretty big improvement over the base game generally.

Lol completely opposite order for me

Obviously the best !

Obviously the best reason to never let bandai namco direct the series

1. Bloodborne 9.5/10
2. Dark Souls 9/10
3. Demon’s Souls 8.5/10
4. Dark Souls 3 8/10
5. Sekiro 8/10
6. Dark Souls 2 7.5/10

oh we can do this?

1. Dark Souls 3/Bloodborne/Dark Souls/Demon's Souls 10/10 Based, Miyazaki's infinite benevolence
2. Sekiro 9/10 cool combat but no multiplayer = short lifespan
3. Dark Souls 2 6.8/10 clunky movement/control/animation hold it back

It’s the best.

Everyone knows Bloodborne is the worst, due to the performance. But the Sony nerds talk it up to flex their micro e-peens.

I disagree.

The only bad part in DKS1 is Lost Izalith.... Everything else is great, speacilly the DLC!

How can it be a 'drop' in quality when it was the first in the franchise? Wat?
is it really that hard to understand? I when I say drop in quality I mean the game drops in quality the more you play it especially the later levels which are badly designed.

Edit: my bad I should have worded the title better, I mean drop in quality when it comes to playing each individual game , I acknowledge my mistake lol.

DS2 is the worst

“it tried to do new things” is also the worst argument for anything usually used for the crappiest part of a franchise
I respectfully disagree , at least ds2 feels like they tried to do something different. I’m not saying DS2 is perfect(far from it I can admit it has many flaws), but at lea at it’s not a lazy homage game like DS3.

Gotta be said, I don't disagree with this much. DS2 has a lot wrong with it, but it was ambitious. I admire that. As I played DS3 I just sat there going through a check list of Dark Souls stuff I'd seen before.

Mind you, let's face it, they're all bastard good games, when you get right down to it.

playing my first playthrough of a souls game on switch

first, i think the trial/error gameplay is great for this type of game, but i think people are confusing a harsh death run with actual difficulty...

there are ways to kill things that take a certain number of tries to learn, that all take long runs every try, but once you know, is it really difficult anymore?

the world is fantastic, i love the depth of the weapon design, and i think the art direction is great...

but part of me wonders if anyone would have bothered with so much trial and error if there was much to play on PS3 back in the day...you can see it in the bitterness of sonyfans in this thread. "you dont get to say cause you didn't suffer with us"....rofl wut?

it's like sony asked FROM for a giant timesink and souls was the result

still, great game...goat?...yeah, i dunno bro

You're wrong sorry.

Joke aside, I see what you mean and I also feel a little down after Anor Londo. Still the best of all Soulborne for me.

I actually dont mind them much lol , I critize Tomb of Giants, Lost Izalith and DLC levels as being bad (DLC bosses are great though).

Those are still good areas/bosses to me but if you're laying off critiquing my beloved bounding demons I'll back off.

But if u come at my firey dino chikk'ns, I'd be all like "git gud...at taste"

Nothing has ever been as bad as the poison swamp and that area under the prison in Demon Souls. I really wanted a map back then. Absolutely awful areas.

oh yeah....well fucking done on the encumbrance system, people say the game feels clunky....well no shit full plate

half my gear choice is stats, the other half is how cool i look and can i move decent lol

also the limited equip slots made some cool compromise with magic, and i like the scaling math on some weapons

I still believe that the way all the good ideas that DS2 brought to the table being rejected effectively killed the franchise.
DS2 really tried to add stuff to the formula, but after the response to it was so negative by a certain portion of the fandom, FROM realized that they had literally nowhere to go creatively, and the result was the unambitious and stale DS3.

People need to stop demanding "more of the same", its just not worth it in the long run.

Ive never read a more wrong topic title.
The entire series is top class - but Dark Souls 1 still stands at the top of the franchise.

If this post it was for fishing out retarded opinion like yours OP I commend you. If it was real I hope I never see a post from you again.

Demons Souls is the worst in the series when you equally compare all games with out taking into consideration the age of each title.
I'm not holding my hopes up for the Demons Souls remake either.
Elden Ring is where it is at.

Dark Souls 3 has about as much variety in direction as your average beat em up or FF XIII. If you take out the "epic" boss battles you're just walking forward.

While you may be correct in Demon's Souls not being the best in terms of mechanics and pacing. Demon's Souls has BY FAR the best Atmosphere of any Souls game outside of Bloodborne.

If you take out "something" you're just walking forward. Congrats, you just described pretty much every third person game, ever.

OP is right. The first Dark Souls, while having a good connectivity for its world, also has many incredibly poor areas. Dark Souls 3 plays like a corridor with two small branches, as well as recycling many areas.

Dark Souls II is the most balanced effort overall in terms of level-design. And I don't care about the fact that, if you zoom out on a 3D model of the entire world, two areas overlay each other. Who cares honestly ? You might not even realize it.

Demons' Souls has a great level-design without having a big interconnected world. I rank it up there with Dark Souls II.
