My favorite Bethesda franchises in recent memory are the smaller titles like Dishonored, Prey, Evil Within, and to an extent Wolfenstein (but not the newest one). The big titles like Fallout & Oblivion have not (to me personally) seen a quality release in a decade or more.

They will screw them!!!!!

MS about to be one of the biggest 3rd party publishers in the biz. Wild to think.
Anyone that thinks they paid 7.5 billion dollars to help Sony sell systems is out of their mind. These games will be Xbox and pc only with the occasional switch port here and there for smaller games. Unless Sony allows game pass on their system there’s no way that’s happening. People keep referencing Minecraft it’s not the same that’s a franchise that’s kid heavy and it would have been a bad PR move to lock kids out. This not so much lots of these games are rated M.

MS could finance a cool 75 brandnew AAA games with a 100 million dollar budget for that money. Instead they buy Bethesda, a third party developer that already made games for both Xbox and PC. So all that 7.5 billion dollar deal accomplishes is that Bethesnda games are available on Game Pass and that Sony consoles won't get future Bethesda/Zenimax games. Was that really worth so much money??

My bet is that if you'd ask Xbox gamers what they's rahter have: 75 new exclusive big budget games for their console or a dozen Bethesda games on Gamepass, they'd go for the first option.

Do you know how hard it is to make 1 new AAA game and make it good, let alone 75? Do you know how difficult it is to make a brand as valuable as Doom, Elder Scrolls, Fallout?

Personally with 7.5 billion in my pocket, Bethesda would be the last developer I would be acquiring.

Capcom, Namco, Square Enix or Sega would have made things interesting.

Heck theres From Software and Konami.

Sure, but MS will not want to miss out on all that profit from other consoles (just like Minecraft). They'll just use it for Gamepass. Which looks like a very good move.

15 million Gamepass subscribers confirmed. In order to keep growing it they can't just put all those games on PS (people will be begging thou). Get an Xbox or get a PC.

Speechless.. I'm utterly speechless. And we thought that Sony buying Insomniac was a huge deal.
The way I see it, the console war as we knew it (who sells the most) may be over. Microsoft has just put its money where its mouth was and they now have the means to make Game Pass and/or Xbox hardware absolutely unavoidable for gamers. It all depends on whether they want to make the Bethesda franchises exclusive.
I can't believe it's real. This is way bigger than buying CD Projekt or even WB. My God. Doom, Quake, Rage, Dishonored, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls,etc.. on top of all the other XGS studios??? AND EA PLAY IA ALSO IN GAME PASS AT NO ADDITIONAL COST?
You had to wonder why MS was so passive after the Halo Infinite fiasco. Not even in a hurry to schedule another game showcase. Allowed the Series X|S conferences to leak out. They knew the kind of weapon they were about to roll out was of game ending magnitude.
I think Microsoft has gotten tired of playing chicken and egg with a much less financially robust competitor and called game. Never thought I would say this but Sony is outgunned software wise. They better be very kind to MS and beg them to not make the entire Bethesda catalogue exclusive. If I'm Phil Spencer, I want FF16 multiplat before I even pick up a call.

You make a good point.

Wondering if they could spin it as "either Sony allows Gamepass on Playstation or you don't get to play the games" ?

Gulp. Shit just got real :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Rare that something so big doesn't even get a whiff of a leak. That's absolutely huge... Gamepass becoming completely irresistable. Well played.

The only ones they could buy with 7 B there are Sega and From.

The rest are much more than 7 billion. Capcom is over 10 now.

This Zenimax thing was a deal, I have been posting about it for weeks and weeks and people thought I was stupid or mad. Well, now Xbox got them for a steal.

Microsoft also announced that they have reached 15 million GamePass subscribers' milestone.

"Games are the primary growth engine in gaming, and games are fueling new cloud-gaming services".

No shit

As for the news, my primary concern is MS fucking up modding on new TES games, but then i expected Bethesda to fuck that anyway.

This is unbelievably huge. Really hope they are still committed to bringing all these games to PC and releasing them on Steam. I like Game Pass but it’s awful for mods... and even just for installing and updates (THANKS, Windows Store).

This actually really bothers me. I really like their games even if they are buggy.

I don't have a computer good enough to run new games and I will be getting PlayStation over the Xbox for demon souls... I don't care that ms bought them, I just care that I won't get to play them.

I guess we will see.

Can see MS releasing all games from these studios as Xbox/PC games with timed exclusivity in the future.

This will be enough to win back a large portion of the hardware market from Sony.

Then after 6 months or so of exclusivity, they will release on PlayStation to make profit from those still unveiling to come over.

This is HUGE.
