Hi Gaf

Since today is PS5 launch day for some folks around the world (we Europeans have to wait an extra week) i though it would be a great idea to have an Official Thread on how PS4 games run on PS5 , almost all of us have huge back catalog on PS4 and to have some feedback on how the games run on a PS5 would be a great help to all of us.

So feel free (you lucky US , Japan folks) to start giving feedback on how PS4 games run on the new PS5

What I would like to also know is how the PS2 - PS4 classics perform such as the old 3D GTA games and Resident Evil Code Veronica.

RDR2 - locked at 30, will need a patch to uncap framerate to 60. Hoping they give it the “next gen treatment” they have announced for GTA5 (they probably will)

SW:FO - 1080p (Pro Perf Mode) locked 60fps (hope resolution gets patched for next gen to uncap the 30 lock)

TLG - v1.00 off the disc is locked 60fps, 1800p (but looks pretty much 4K, resolution doesn’t go higher since capped native 1800p by devs for Pro) Digital (1.03) or patched disc (1.03) only locked 30fps due to the cap they put on the framerate in 1.03. Hope they patch again to uncap it.

Very useful Thread!

Is the sky glitch the only confirmed issue with Resident Evil 7? What about Resident Evil 2/3, any issue with those? The latter wasn't as stable as the second so at least should be locked now.

I know it's never going to happen but it would be awesome if someone could test the game in the original, unpatched 1.00 version. The game was later massively downgraded, also due to performance issues.

Man, it's going to be a long ass week for us Europeans..

Metro Exodus anyone? Still 1080p30fps?
I’ve never played any in the series. Is shadow fall an okay place to jump into the series?
IMO it's not a Killzone game but a generic SciFi Shooter. It's ok, but not KZ1/2'esque dark and gritty war game no more. The series became more futuristic and colorful with it's 3rd entry, Mercenary and Shadow Fall topped it off with going complete sci-fi. But if you like sci-fi and are not in love with Killzone 2, then yeah, I guess it's a good game.

Anyone tried GTAV yet? It's getting a next gen update at some point (I honestly thought it was for launch, but maybe not)

Im wondering if online is loading faster or it's still due to the server's being shit and seemingly held together by hope and duct tape

I’m curious about rdr2 as well, specifically if there is any enhancement to the resolution. It’s one of the games I want to go back to whenever I get a ps5.

From the backwards compatibility video from Digital Foundry, Dark Souls 3 runs at 1080p and 60fps locked. That should make for quite an enjoyable playthrough, looking forward to doing a run of that!

The Last Guardian is actually 1890p in resolution mode. Very close to 4K.

The Witcher 3? Saw that it can run at 60 on XSX, which I guess is because the XB1X version already had a performance mode? But the Pro version doesn't AFAIK, so guessing this is still 30 on PS5?

Can anyone test the high mode on FFXV? Are frame pacing issues gone? Have high res textures been added? Thanks.

PS4 version doesn’t have a performance mode. It will come next year. Pretty incredible that CDPR is farming it out to another studio.

If they allow for trophies/achievements to get re-earned it’ll get another play through!

So the story isn't too tightly woven into each game? Like I'm not going to screw up the plot too much by skipping straight to SF? I have a PS3 so I could buy the first one if that is the right way for the series.

I tried Resident Evil 7 this morning and didn't even have the sky glitch. I have no idea why not, maybe it's specific to a specific setting?

Otherwise I noticed no issues at all, although I don't pay attention to actual FPS, it wasn't janky in a way I noticed.

Can somebody try overwatch. I don’t care about enhancements, I just want to know if it works.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Persona 5 Royal?

It'll probably be locked at 30 (animations and such) but I'm curious.

Here's my experience: US PS5 here.

FF7 RE Disc version - had initial issue of not booting, but exiting to home screen and starting again worked. Looks same, Texture issue not solved, faster loading, 30fps (seems locked)

Gravity Rush Digital version - no problems at all - 60fps. Not sure if it's 4k or not though.

Shenmue III Disc version - no problems at all - very smooth at 60fps, and loading time's reduced quite a bit.

Resident Evil 7 Digital version - very smooth at 60fps, faster loading - not sure if there's any meaningful enhancement other than loading time.

You can check this for yourself with any game by going to the details screen before you purchase a game. If the game can't be played on PS5, it will tell you. To quote overwatch:

To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent. See PlayStation.com/bc for more details.

That's pretty much the standard message for a PS4 game that works on PS5.

To be honest, for me, Killzone was never really about the story of the characters. Of course you need them to drive the game forward, but actually the game lives from the atmosphere of being a soldier in a fictional, brutal and dirty war.
That's what fascinated me so much about KZ2, plus a really amazing technical implementation, if you think about how old the game is and what kind of hardware it runs on. Unfortunately you can't say the same about KZ1, the game doesn't run smoothly and the gameplay seems outdated.
I started with Killzone 2, directly after that you can play the third part, they merge into each other, but you notice an artisitic cut, I think the atmosphere changes from the third part on and it gets a bit more spacey and futuristic - from like a dieselpunk'esque game (KZ2) to fancy-high-polished-SciFi (KZ:SF) - I had a lot of fun with KZ3 anyway. Liberation, Mercenary and Shadow Fall stand on their own and even if they are woven into the story, I never thought the games were important to understand and enjoy the story of KZ 2 & 3.
So if you don't mind jumping back two console generations now, I suggest you start with KZ2.

Call Of Duty Black Ops 3 (2015). I know zombie chronicles version was free with the PS Plus games.

I would like to know how split screen zombies performs on ps5?

Planetside 2 free to play scifi fps. Imagine a grander scale battlefield style game

Ps4

20-60fps, extremely inconsistent

Load times 29 seconds, 15 seconds

Ps5

58-60fps mostly locked 60fps for an hour stream I saw one dropped frame during heavy action and 200+ players in a small area

Load times 13 seconds, 5 seconds

This is without a patch. BC mode

Great thread.

Can someone look up Dragon Engine games?

Judgment
Yakuza 6
Yakuza Kiwami 2

Sadly, I think these have 30fps framerate cap. Yakuza 6 in 60fps would be a bliss.

Also RE2 Remake anyone? Is it glorious?

Can anyone tell me if Journey, Flower and Abzu run without issues on ps5? (they are my relax-time games)
Thanks!

I am confused does the PS4 version I have "update" to this "remaster" version that comes with the Miles Morales Spiderman?

It does not, because they did a lot more than just unlock the framerate. You can argue then maybe there should be two versions of the update, but that unfortunately didn't happen.

Aside from that, is anyone making a list of backwards compatible titles that have better framerates, or 60 FPS support?

Has anyone tried wwe 2k19? Jumping between load screens for create modes is a pain in the ass.

Also, I know it's a live service game, but has anyone tried Division 1 or Division 2? Those games' "fast travel" are insulting slow.

On my oled, I am pleasantly surprised with the PS5s auto HDR, thought most games would look terrible. But every game I've tried looks great, and in rdr2s case, its better than the in-game implementation.

Also on terrorist hunt on r6 siege, i just clocked 153fps

Has anyone tried Witcher 3? Very interested to hear if there are any improvements, especially between PS4 (not Pro) and PS5.
