Ever heard of a footballer? A boxer? A bowler?
You've a nerve calling people retarded.
I would imagine it's more in-line with stuff like footballer, racer, biker... Like we have words for enthusiasts of all kinds: audiophile, jock, techie, gearhead... "Gamer" is just the word we use would use to describe a video game enthusiast.
My point is you initially made an extreme generalization, when in reality there are all types of people that watch his videos for various reasons. Dude has over 673K subscribers.
If you don't like his vids or care for his opinion specifically that's fine, but I don't see the point in lambasting or making assumptions about people that watch his vids.
It's just a shorthand for people that have a particular interest in playing video games more than the average person.
Your examples are also kind of silly, as there are terms for people that engage in certain activities or hobbies.
A person that has a particular interest in food is a foodie.
A person who has a particular interest in watching movies is a movie buff
A person who likes to skateboard a lot is a skater even if they don't do it professionally.
It's really not that serious.
'Retard' this, 'loser' that. Some of you really need to relax lol
Thanks for the input, GAMETA.
OK, you're right, I overreacted, though it was meant in a hyperbolic and comic way, but OK, I get it and
apologize no I won't.
It's just that "gamer" has this strange "connotation", it sounds idiotic in a way, it's the same with "youtuber", or "influencer"... maybe I feel that way because those terms have been adopted by other languages as well, and it kind of became a "lingo" for the world wide social media... I kind of despise that, but nothing too bad, it just sounds stupid, I don't know...
I come from an age where playing video-games was not a trophy, so now you see these kids and social media people saying stuff like "Well, as a Gamer, I..." FUCK YOU! It drives me crazy.
But you know, maybe it's cultural, maybe it is my lack of familiarity with the English language and how you use such terms in a natural way, maybe it's the product of my own native language adopting English terms that can be taken out of context, I don't know... anyways...
I understand now. Still, to my ears, sounds stupid af, but I understand that you may perceive things in a different way, and I understand that my perception may not line up with the reality of the language and how it is generally perceived, used and accepted..
