I don't understand why it's better to be an ugly, fat woman than a fat man. You get noticed and scrutinised far more as an obese waddling woman than a man. If these people were in shape/looking after themselves and actually attempting to be women then fair enough but just take a look at r/transpassing for example - a lot just focus on makeup to carry them. I guess I just don't see why it makes you 'happier'. It's a drastic change and it signifciantly alters your physical appearance/state and imo there are not enough discussions around whether that physical state is actually going to be better for you. These people are unhappy because they cant live as a woman in their physical male bodies. I don't see this is different when you transition and still look like a male. I feel the issue for a lot of these MtF transtrenders is that they dislike male culture more than have the desire to be a female (imo). There's a distinct look from all these social media whores who are doing this. It's like they want to escape the brash, boisterous, pisstaking male spaces and be allowed to be demure and childish without the risks of some random fella calling you out. And transitioning provides that 'shelter'.

I feel the issue for a lot of these MtF transtrenders is that they dislike male culture more than have the desire to be a female (imo).

I stopped posting there a while ago because it eventually became impossible to avoid the bigotry and hate, despite only hanging out on the gaming side. I get enough political discourse in my life as is, especially through work. And the thing is, these narrow-minded fuckwits couldn’t change someones prejudice even if their life depended on it. Their world is black and white, devoid of any nuances. They don’t understand that prejudice behavior is usually not a character trait. Most people aren’t full out homophobic or racist, rather they have racist tendencies that can be changed, oftentimes with the smallest of efforts. But these people won’t even engage with someone who made a stupid statement five years ago. They are never going to have any impact on anyone, they are too far removed from the real world. It’s all just one big circle-jerk to make them feel better about themselves.

And it’s a shame, too. I very much like the concept of a gaming forum. I remember when I first stumbled upon GAF sometime in the beginning of the seventh gen. I thought the combination of quality information, news and community driven discussion was perfect. It soon became my favourite site on the internet this side of wikipedia. And because of the volume of users, it could satisfy my interest in niche genres, without the need of going to speciality boards like the shmup forums or shoryuken.
Later, ResetERA would replace GAF as the one-stop shop gaming forum and in the beginning, it seemed fine. The amount of users was there, prolific posters moved over and business continued pretty much as before, but with a outspoken goal of better and more transparent moderation. Which is rather funny in hindsight since in the end, it turned out way worse than GAF ever was and in turn, GAF adopted the very thing that Era was built upon. Quite the turn of events!

As I mentioned, I didn’t bother too much at all with the off-topic section of resetera, other than the occasional music thread. But even during my limited exposure I saw some insane shit go down over there. Threads like ’Can you be racist to white people’ with the majority of posters agreeing that no, in fact you can not. ’I think gay porn is disgusting’ well then you are clearly homophobic. ’I don’t think Trump is retarded’ well would you look at this nazi.
I guess I’m preaching to the choir, but the point is that I started to feel uncomfortable posting on that forum altogether. And the insanity did increasingly spill over to the gaming section, to the point where you couldn’t even discuss certain games. On a gaming forum.
Oh, you bought Darksiders III? Clearly you like pedophiles. Hyped for the next KoF? Well you have blood on your hands. Got a PS5? You whipped those slave workers yourself, didn’t you?

But what alternatives are there, really?

I’m not a ’zeitgeist gamer’. Sure, I’ll play the occasional big release but I’m more into arcade stuff like shmups, racers, fighters etc. Thats the reason I stayed there as long as I did since you need to have a big userbase to cover fringe stuff like that. And I didn’t realize GAF was getting back in action!
I’ve been snooping around here for a couple of weeks and from what I’ve seen it’s mostly sane people stating normal things in a sane manner (kinda), ie the opposite of Era. A few familiar old faces aswell and I kinda missed the ’bannable offense’ of kids shitting on other kids toys.

With that said, there are still a lot of good, clearheaded people left on Era. But I have to say I ageee with what DunDunDunpachi stated earlier in this thread. GAF should be wary about who’s showing up. I’d even take it a step further and say that by posting on Era, you are providing these bigots with the platform they need to spread their hatred. I wish more users on Era realized this.

Anyway, this ended up being a wall of text just to express my two cents. I won’t be posting in this thread ’cause I agree with what MyazakiHatesKojima said about wasting energy on ’a bunch of mentally ill attention whores’. Better contribute to the forum in what way I can instead, even though I’m not a 50 posts a day kind of guy. But I do play a lot of games. And anything to make this place a viable alternative to that malicious hellhole of a forum is a good thing.

Besides, seems like you guys already got it covered. And please keep it up ’cause this thread is golden! <3

I genuinely feel bad for Jim Sterling because one of his old videos referenced how the nurse struggled to put in a needle because of his bodyfat level. He went into hospital previously for health problems and it should have been a wake up call.

Being right is not seen too well. I love a lot of Japanese games, watched various anime, some of my all-time favourite comics are Japanese manga. And yet, nearly every story worth a damn features helpless underage girls, sexualized characters, a fetishization of the innocent girl who's afraid to talk about sex and the awkward incel male. Stereotypes that don't help their society at all, considering how the country actually has issues with their men finding partners and making children.

But no, if someone points out 90%+ of Japanese media has this issue (be that manga, anime, books, videogames, music videos, porn, etc.) that's an offensive generalization and you're racist for thinking this way. Of course if you say that CD Projekt Red is made up entirely of white suprematists because the country is led by a far-right government, that's fine.
