What is the genesis of this cross gen mantra? We're currently in the 8th generation of consoles. That means this isn't the first launch period we've ever had. I've never heard so much moaning about games made for multiple platforms before.

This is totally normal, as the install base of the current gen dwarfs the next gen by over 12:1. I've never heard it used as some strike against a game until last year, when people used it to knock MS' strategy.

There's no reason a game has to be limited. What would HFW do better aesthetically if it was PS5 only? Seriously, does the argument have any backing or justification?

Is it the idea that there are no flying mounts? If that's the case, how did so many games on the PS4 and older manage flying? Did LODs become a thing of the past with this game? You can just shrink the draw distance, drop the LOD, and limit the travel speed to make it work. It's not like it's a multiplayer game where old console users must have the same experience. Perhaps there won't be flying mounts because it's a game design choice. It might break the intentional gating of certain maps that is the to force creativity and exploration, instead of letting you take the god's eye to a map.

This isn't a game that was ever going to have R&C's portal mechanics. It's going to use the SSD to stream more data into a frame, and that's totally possible now.

The level design on the demo is just your basic tutorial stuff, as already pointed out. The first game was open world with massive areas you could explore, and also smaller ones. It's not a hardware limitation, it's a game design choice. It's why we will always have linear games, because certain design choice require forcing the player along a path to encounter challenges in a desired order. The more open sandbox areas will still be there, but they're not exactly ideal for setting up encounters that showcase the desired mechanics. It's why tutorial levels are usually linear and scripted before releasing you into a more open part of the map. The PS4 didn't hold back Miles on the PS5, as Spiderman swings around a city, and gets into boys fights. There are basic game structures that will always exist, independent of the hardware.

Not following but I'll repeat and make it more clear.
Did not impress me because it looks good, JUST looks good.
I think the problem is this demonstration, felt too scripted and a script sequence of events. Not a creative and inventive way to show the new gameplay, plus all that talk and "smart" little responses in the mid of the gameplay, I'm not a fan of these new talky characters, and too end the loud annoying music.

It's good that these demonstrations shows us how the actually game looks and plays, but still, it's harder to light the hype flame inside you.

I think this looking as good as it is on PS5 is a given.

I await how it looks on PS4 though as it’s already on life support after looking at the trailer. It’s preemptively spinning its fans already.

I enjoyed the first one so I am in but this game looks nothing like the "bull shots" and CGI we have seen so far. i.e. game play looks the same as the last game, just looks a bit prettier, nothing to blow you away.

The game play wasn't scripted it was just so stylish it trucked you into thinking it was. You could see other paths they could take and the combat was all done off the cuff and consistent with your abilities from the first game. The play tester was also obviously very familiar with the game and did a run to show off the gameplay in as entertaining a way as possible.

It legit looks brilliant. Gameplay with the first one was just great. It wouldve been nice if they could hit 60fps, but its still going to be great.

Only thing that concerns me is, the first one's writing and voice acting was only aight. It was solid. And even though this is a 10 min demo, they didnt really get you invested in the story or characters at all. Like I dunno some crazy drama, or a mission, or something.

If they can nail the story and writing it will make this so much better. I have my doubts on this front though. If it can approach what GoW or LOU do, in terms of the voice acting and story, that will be amazing.

I'm glad they didn't ruin the story. I'm going to be avoiding any story trailers they put out. I want to go in fresh in a few months.

Why do you get so hot and bothered about someone pointing at inconsistencies of the game's presentation? If you thinnk im warrioring report it to the mods. your blatant attempt at counter warrioring is hostile as fuck, you are not a mod.

Fucking hell you accusing me of hiding something? i havent played on an xbox since 2012 for fucks sake. Meanwhile youre targetting posters that raise points on some blemishes of the game.

Right now the only thing youre accomplishing is derailing the hype thread for this game.

I actually didn't think you were being a warrior (starting to think otherwise now since it's clear I should never have responded to you in the first place), if you did you'd have know about it and I wouldn't have attempted to make a joke with you. Or quite simply I wouldn't have taken the bait. Instead you took my reply completely the wrong way and for whatever reason you took it personally.

Plenty of people have brought up criticisms of the game that are perfectly valid. There is being critical and there is nitpicking.

If you want to talk about the machines not sinking in to the sand realistically because of their weight then you are nitpicking to a degree that would be impractical as it would have a negative impact on the playability and enjoyment in any section involving sand. That is literally what I was portraying in my first response to you.

And nope, as far as I can see the hype in this thread is still very much continuing even though you're continuing to have a cry.

Not trying to defend Craig but i also saw this in the Horizon gameplay today looks bad. Craig 2.0? BTW you can find this kind of thing in almost any game if you zoom in close enough lol

I mean that screenshot looks bad but still a lot better than then the Halo one. Even without the zoom in, Halo still looked awful in comparison to HZD. I'm sure they have done a massive overhaul since then. After all there was a reason why they all of a sudden delayed it. The backlash was pretty severe.

I'll be honest here. I expected more. But I guess it's still too early in the gen and typically we see mind blowing gfx somewhere mid gen.

This is also releasing on PS4 too right? Maybe that's why.

Ya but if they agree with you on that they have to admit the series s isn't holding back next gen, even though everything you are saying makes sense.......

I think the fact its cross gen, it looks great, but 30fps and cross gen?, hopefully its just because the video is 30fps.
Love the colour, and it def is a step up from the orig game, but not a generation better, and it was never going to be with it being cross gen.
Still if the finished PS5 version looks like this, and is 60fps, then you cant really get better for a cross gen game.

I remember when we used to argue that the fog in the distance for n64 games made them more realistic graphically but was included because of hardware limitations now things have come full circle and fog is a graphical effect that is totally beautiful and not a limitation of hardware.

hot damn that facial hair fuzz is incredible.

the 4K version is the only way to watch this and even then it’s compressed wow this game is going to look great

I really got to fire up the first game for a comparison. Maybe it's just nostalgia playing tricks on me but I seriously don't think this looks much better than its predecessor.
Kind of like the last game but with with a high res texture pack....
Right now I'm pretty underwhelmed...

Really? Why did they bother to have Aloy leave prints on the sand then? Why did they bother to have the dinos interact with the shallow water over the beach uh? Because they thought "let's make the game less fun? Why did they bother to have the tall grass interact with Aloy?

Given the choices they made doing that, your argument that it would, somehow, make the game less "playable" to add those effects, doesn't hold

I recently revisited the original and this looks better. Give it a spin.

Nah it has much better lighting. That’s what stands out for me.

I'm pretty sure they just wanted to showcase the graphics in all their glory which had to be done in 30fps. I'd be very surprised if it didn't have a 60fps performance mode on PS5 with some sort of downgrade in presentation.

Anyone who enjoyed that is disqualified from having opinions on games IMO.

I was stunned when I played it, and not in a good way.
Man, c'mon. You can be a fanboy but horizon has NOTHING on botw's gameplay. That's why one still relevant and the other is ancient history.

Were you expecting an entirely different game?

Not sure why a sequel to a game would go on to completely reinvent itself into something completely different. The only series that kind of goes through that is Zelda.
A highly successful and praised game at that.

It is the best action game I have ever played. Imagine being arrogant enough to try to disagree with someone else's personal enjoyment of a game.

What other game allows you to fight huge robotic dinosaurs with lots of cool weapons and abilities?

First game lacked some diversity and melee mechanics, but it is one of the few games that offers an extremely compelling gameplay scenarios like no other game (maybe monster hunter)

I can totally see how it would be some person's favorite

If you simply want footprints and they aren't there then have at it.

If you want the machines sinking in to the sand and struggling under their weight due to "sand physics" then no bueno. There's not a single game out there that simulates what it's like to walk/run in soft sand and it's for a reason.
