Might as well go whole hog they've been charging fans for what's essentially a F2P for a few years now. All the bullshit loot supported by their real money loot store, enemies that are spongy to start the F2P feedback loop in players mind making them want to use said store.

The AC story made sense at some point long ago, but it doesn't anymore, playing AC for the underlying story is like reading Playboy for the articles.

Ubisoft is working on a new project codenamed Assassin's Creed Infinity, which will reportedly be an online platform that would include multiple historical settings and evolve over time – not unlike the approaches taken by Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Bloomberg's sources say that Infinity is designed to run for years, and would include a number of settings, rather than the single historical locations the series is known for. The platform would seemingly encompass multiple different Assassin's Creed games, which "might look and feel different, but they will all be connected." Bloomberg's sources also say the project is years from release.

Ubisoft confirmed project's existence to Bloomberg, with a spokeswoman saying it wants to “exceed the expectations of fans who have been asking for a more cohesive approach”. No other reported details were confirmed.

That's not a bad idea IMO, the main appeal of the franchise for me are the historical settings, the gameplay itself is at best mildly entertaining, at worst fillers and an excuse to explore the cities/worlds.
And I never cared about the plot.

How is this going to work? Dropping new story contents bit by bit? Exoanding the map every 3-6 months?
Tbh I expected an Assassins Creed Battle Royal game 😅

I'd be interested in that kind of model, story content being added over the course of a few years. If it can be played single player as well as co-op I'm all for it.

This is really good news.

I imagine that with AC Infinity they'd be able to tell different stories across various settings without the pressure of having to develop each one of them into 100hrs long games, but rather "episodes" with only 20-30hrs worth of content (no filler) and mechanics that are specific to each setting.

On a side note regarding Halo Infinite being a live service F2P multiplayer game. How are they going to price the campaign? As that's not free but of course has no MP or anything else like previous Halo's, so would be a little short on content you would imagine.

It's like they are finding new ways to make me avoid them.

Anyway, Assassin's Creed is a good franchise.

lol whatever..ubisoft is gonna go f2p pay to win in their new games...ac is just another experiment for them. after valhalla that sucked ass, i am not surprised.

I haven't played an AC game seriously since part 2.

I've gotten a few for $10 on flash sales and put in about 20 hours roaming around and sneak attacking people. If they want to do some f2p trash, I'll probably end up doing the same thing and hopefully not have to pay a cent.

Last Ubisoft game I paid for full price was Mario + Rabbids.

Last games were full price singleplayer with all that live and mtx stuff crammed into them.

I honestly prefer they go the whole way...

If they are just going to double down on the slogfest that is their last two AC games then maybe they can hook some whales? It is more likely that they will kill the franchise though. AC games are turn your brain off chill and look at the scenery while drinking beer games. Turning that into a sweaty ass live service game is the opposite of what I want out of an AC game.

I watched my flatmate enjoy Origins and I think that one was straddling the line of the F2P bullshit since the enemies werent too spongey but yeah they really went full hog on Odyssey (and I'm sure Valhalla, but I havent played it, just watched some) and made it so you will be conditioned to think its fun to take 8 hits to kill some trash mob and 24 for a fat guy, I remember murdering 10 people in seconds in old AC and I quite liked that, it got old obviously but now I want that fake power fantasy back ha, which shows how shit the new mode is really.

Your analogy is more appropriate than you imagine because Playboy actually used to have good writers/articles in the distant past but yeah, now not so much. Same with many mens magazines.

You can still enjoy the newer ones by using mods/trainers probably but you shouldn't have to ofc and if this "Infinity" live service game comes to pass you can't even do that. Thanks for monetising all the fun you bunch of bastards.

I'd really prefer that they make a good game instead
I mean the last 3 AC games have been great

This could be really cool. We know we’re getting another year of Valhalla, then that other expandalone thing, so this is 2024 at the earliest, maybe 2025? I’m sure we could see some cool stuff. AC is the perfect universe for this type of title, they can easily add in a new time period to the game for new content, with new items and abilities. Really excited to see what they do with this.

At the same time, I hope we also see a return to the classic style of AC in the form of a reboot or spin-off down the line. I love the new AC games but they’re very different

That tweet is wild, it goes from the future of AC to workplace abuse in like 1.5 sentence.

Anyway, so many red flags here. Ubi chasing the "LIIIIIIIVE SERVICE" dragon even though it's already becoming clear that live service is hardly ever worth it. Then there's the idea that this won't come out in another 3 years, which is fucking bananas. You think the live service market will be better by then? No, it'll be even worse.

I don't know what's going on with Ubi the last couple of years but it's been a cavalcade of bad ideas.

I played and finished all AC games except for Valhalla because it feels like a fucking chore rather than a game, a live service game but wihtout the live aspect and as I was playing it for 100h and still at half I was thinking, this could've been better if it had coop. Obviously as a fan that sounds stupid for a SP game but the way the game was designed feels like they had coop in mind but dropped it. Sucks to hear but I enjoy playing with friends so if its good as Division then Im up for it. This is what Far Cry will become as well fyi.
