Ok GAF, is PS 's messaging on point, or is it waay off base? Are they fucking-up, or is everything going swimmingly?

The thing is, GAF is supposedly pro-Sony, but just like I don't understand XB fans doing it for Phill, I don't understand PS fans who downplay any issues with PS's messaging right now. Weather that's people's honest opinion of Sony's conduct/messaging, or those that say nothing's wrong are just gaslighting and trolling people who disagree - and to some extent, even weather or not it is Sony's official position/reasoning... that doesn't make it the absolute truth of the matter of the situation.

There's SO MUCH about Sony's marketing/interview points/policies etc. That just doesn't make sense, from any way you look at it. And people who feel that way aren't wrong in feeling that way. There are others who feel the same way too. There's examples that can be given for us too, and and counterpoints to people regurgitating or making allowances for Sony's messaging. But I also know I'm not the best person to make those counter points (obviously, lol!).

What I'd ask, for people that think that everything is a-ok in Sony land and they can do nothing wrong, and you downplay or dismiss everything negative said as our misunderstandings, or someone's angry reaction as mere concern trolling... What I'd like to have people do, if they have the time, is listen to this episode of Sacred Symbols, all the different topics discusses and counterpoints to Sony's messaging/interview quotes, and then discuss again with refreshed perspectives.

Well... Obviously no one has to listen to it, but this isn't necessarily a thread designed to be a "Sony bad" thread. It's a genuine attempt at debate/a litmus test. A lot of the talking points are made far better on the podcast than I could do.

I can't keep up with the new releases, I'm not even mentioning my backlog which only grows. I don't understand how enthusiast gamers can't find games to play.

Edit: Unless you meant threads and not games, I don't know, I just woke up.

The only people fucking up are people concern-trolling that Sony is in trouble for [insert non-issue here].

What the hell are you even talking about, "messaging"? You think the average consumer struts around online communicaties all day for a sign of life from Sony? No, they play videogames or wait for whenever [title X] will release.

Do not overestimate the relevance of the extreme minority of GaMeRs on internet forums talking about how this multi-billion dollar conglomerate isn't catering to their specific needs.

I have been a huge enthusiasts of Playstation and games that were available on Playstation consoles as far back as the PS1. I am not completely obsessed with them, because I never owned a PS3 since I had to decide between a PC and PS3 back then and I picked a PC because it made more sense.

I believe in the studios that work for Playstation, but I am not the biggest fan of Jim Ryan. We all know that the world works in phases and cycles and sometimes the suits and moneypeople get a bit greedy. It might happen this time, but I will judge Jim Ryan after this generation is over. If I could pick, based solely on sympathy and appeal, I'd go with Shawn over Jim, but in the end I don't have to be friends with them. I buy their products and I am well aware of that they are a big company that want to make money and I am a customers.

So far the Playstation 5 has been pretty good with Demon's Souls, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank and we get Horizon at the end of the year. We will know more after the next Playstation event.

As far as the messaging goes? I don't need them to feed me information every day. I would rather have big events every now and then that show of the games that I can be excited for. In the end I let the games do the talking, because that is what truly matters.

I've updated the Poll choices to include a good and a bad option as well.

If by "publicity" you mean empty talk and promising of "great things to come" in the distanr future rather than deliviring high quality games one after the other yeah they have been very "bad" and i hope they keep it that way.

For those of us who games pre-internet and pre-E3, I assume the answer is a big, "who gives a fuck?" Are there games? Yes or no. Talking about games is just fluff. Give us the games. So far, Sony seems to be doing a good job of that. I don't think they need to assuage anyone's insecurity, paranoia, or downright stupidity. If you don't feel confident that your console won't deliver on expectations, then you shouldn't have bought it in the first place. That's on you. First reply pretty much nailed it.

It's bad just for people who spend their days online waiting for news (or fake rumors or leaks by shills who constantly tease amazing things even if it's not true) to hype themselves or use as console war ammos.

For normal people it's more than good since they're releasing a continuous flow of great games and the situation is already much better than the first two years of PS4 when people were waiting for the full priced TLOU or GTAV remasters, no new games, no BC, no free or discounted upgrades at all.

Gaming as a whole is struggling in 2021 as a result of the pandemic, don’t expect the situation to change for the better in 2022 until this pandemic is over and everybody's back to their work places, i expect this gen to be as long as the 7th gen or even longer because of this.

Expect a LOT of CG trailers of games that won't be out until 2025.

PlayStation is doing great we can't deny that. However I feel like having someone who understands and is enthusiastic about gaming is important. There are plenty of examples where the leader is someone who is a fan themselves. Kevin Fiege was a fan of Marvel and I personally feel he is one of the reasons why Marvel is where it's at now. Phil Spencer has been doing a great job as well turning Xbox around. The late Iwata is another example. I feel Sony is missing this. They had a good team for PS4 but when they streamlined the team I think the leadership role could have gone to someone better. However it's good that Yoshida is still there as well as Hurst being promoted and Cerny still contracting for Sony.

However I think if Jim Ryan was to be replaced by someone who is more passionate would take PlayStation to another level. Yes Jim Ryan has succeeded running EU region in the past but that's a different position they were leveraging from their other regions and PlayStation as a whole was killing it during PS1 and PS2 era worldwide.

But do I think their communications have been nothing short of shit in the last few years? Yes

Their ‘’too cool for the industry’’ approach reminds me old Nintendo from the 90’s, which isn’t great at all (and one of the main reason I went with the competition, along with being more interested in games from the competition)

Genuinely not the case.
I thought that the podcast made some great points, and made them better than I've seen them phrased most of the time previously, all collected together, and also made them better than I could explain them myself.

I'm Genuinely interested in further discussion/debate, with these points taken into consideration.

If I was just after more drama and stuff, there'd be no reason for a new thread when others already exist.
