Series X or PS5?

Ps5 since you have the ps plus collection (20 PS4 games that have BC enhancements) to go through for free. Also because you said you like single player campaigns with 6-30 hours of playtime. That's Playstation's bread and butter.

Brilliant advice above to get a PS5 and Series S. I currently only have the Series S, but I do plan to get a PS5 at some point.
I personally would start with the Series S (Gamepass), but if you never had a PS4, the PS5 has a shitload to offer as well.

You win either way.

Edit: another benefit few talk about with the Series S is how beast it is as an emulation machine if you put about 60 minutes of effort in.

I have both, but Xbox Series X by far. Haven’t turned on my PS5 in months.

Same.

Actually my friend got the PS5 first, but just recently got the Xbox Series X Halo Infinite Edition and I put him down on some GamePass cards from Target (3-month for $24 ea) and now he says the exact same thing, the PS5 has been collecting dust :messenger_tongue:

I'm thinking either or but I always wait about 4-years after the launch year of a console before buying. By that point in time, there will be a bigger catalog of games to choose from on both ends and we'll also have add-ons and possibly slim models of both. Seems like PlayStation consoles have been getting bulky ever since the PS3 but I'd say the same for the original XBOX. Either way, price will be slightly less for both and having more of a variety to pick from is something nice.

Like most are saying you can't go wrong either way...if you're even able to find either one.

But I say get a PS5 with PS+ and PS Now...same price as GP.

With those services you'll get
The Last of Us 1 & 2 @ 60fps
Horizon Zero Dawn @ 60fps
God of War @ 60fps
Days Gone @ 60fps
Uncharted 4 a PS4 classic

Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V if you're into fighting games

Red Dead Redemption 2 👌🏼
And a bunch of others along with those services

Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 alone makes the purchase of a PS5 worth it

XSX plus Game Pass first and if you think they have some must have games PS5 in a few years with the money you saved thanks to Game Pass.

Both are excellent, it's lose lose proposition the way you framed the question. You need to buy both to get all the good games. If you must choose now, based on your history I would say get an X for now and start saving for the PS5 right away.

They’re both really good. XSX is my main for third party games because I prefer the controller, and because Quick Resume is easily my favorite new gen feature. And then there’s Game Pass, which is simply something no other console currently comes close to matching.

I would advise to go PS5......

Not only for the well known PS 1st party exclusives..... but for things like Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear Strive, FF7 Remake, Bloodborne, Nioh 1 & 2 etc etc from 3rd parties.

I would prefer Destiny and Splitgate to Halo.... and there are a plethora of 3rd person shooters to choose from too. So you wouldn't be for want of much.

There's also a wealth of platformers and other genres on PS, so choice is on your side.

Xbox is the way to go if you're on a budget though, you could theoretically play a huge amount for next to nothing.

You can’t wrong with either. I have both and here are my thoughts:
PS5:
- Exclusives!
- Dualsense is a huge step up from the DS4. Ergonomics, haptics and adjustable triggers are fantastic.
- Spatial audio is better to my ears compared to Series X (Dolby Atmos headphone app).
- Access to a good collection of games with psplus signup on PS5.

Series X:
- Better overall console (autoHDR, quick resume, fps boost).
- Stronger (on paper).
- Games as a service (GamePass).
- Back compat champion.

If I had to choose one, it would be PS5 simply because I like the first party games far more than what is on Xbox, and because the Dualsense is the best controller experience I have ever had.

Hi guys. I am looking to jump in to next gen (having not bothered with ps4 / xbox one). But I am on the fence as to which to get.

I currently have a 360 with a load of disc games (and some original xbox). I was thinking maybe getting gamepass ultimate for streaming. My last Sony console was ps2 (got discs but not played at all aside from psx gpolice in last 10 years on it).

I only have a 10yr old 1080p tv (wont replace until it breaks) but I refuse to go without a drive. I don't sell old consoles so backwards compatibility is nice but not essential.

On PS5 side I did enjoy a few ps4 games at friends and the new controller looks interesting (if a little gimped by the analogue placement). My impression is the library on ps4 was superior last gen so I am tempted not to miss out. I hate loading.

Generally I like arcade games or single player with 6 to 30 hour campaigns.

Which would offer the best entertainment for someone who has some catching up to do? Iam not invested in console wars so all advice welcome 😀

Get GamePass and play through your physical discs via BC on Series X

I don't even consider PS5 an option here, and I loved PS2

Whichever has the games you like.
Side note: You’ve probably missed the Souls games so check those out for sure. Most are on both systems aside from two PS5 exclusives (Bloodborne and Demons’ Souls).

If you don't care about your BC library until you get a XSX in the future and you are comfortable with just streaming with GPU, then PS5 should be fine.

Alternatively, you'll likely get more "play" out of the XSX/Game Pass and can always stream some PS4 titles via PSNow you have missed out on (or play on PC if that's ever an option), and get a PS5 down the road.

I would suggest a Series S, but you don't like not having a disc option and it really doesn't make sense given your BC library at hand.

Game Pass has a plethora of RPGs and long games to go through you'd be busy for a long long long long time, for barely spending anything.

edit: I forgot about the PS+ Collection as mentioned below. That would definitely be something nice to keep you busy and catch up on quality stuff, similar to Game Pass (though nothing new will be added to it unlike GP AFAIK).

Neither is better or worse. Anyone who claims otherwise probably has a Phil Spencer or Mark Cerny dakimakura in their closet.

Go for the one that currently has the games that interest you the most immediately and in the near future. Buy the other at a later date when you have the money. Too many good games on both systems to ignore.

Bro, if your last console was the PS2, you definitely need the PS5.

Right out of the gate just from buying the console and subscribing to PS Plus you get access to tons of bangers from the PS4 era.

This will keep you busy for a few months, then you can move on to the rest of the bangers, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us 2, Final Fantasy Remake, Gravity Rush 1 and 2 and so on and so on, oh and most of them with PS5 patches that improve the experience by A LOT.

And then you can still get some of the PS5 bangers that came out during this first year, Spiderman Miles Morales, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and Demon Souls.

Starting 2022 you get Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 and later God of War Ragnarok.

I mean, it's a no brainer really. And I'm only mentioning games here, if you already have friends with PS4 or PS5 the online and social experience is a bit superior as well, and your belly will be full of great games.

If your last consoles were a 360 and a PS2, get a Series S and Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Nice and cheap way to get back in to gaming and catch up on hundreds of games you've missed.

Not to mention you should be able to pick one up as there is much more stock of them than PS5 or Series X.

Having checked the OP, I can easily reccomend a PS5 over a Series X.

The main advantage of Series X over PS5 is Gamepass. But because you are so behind in games having skipped PS4 and Xbox One, you don't need Gamepass because you can grab used games that you missed out on for dirt cheap, it will actually cost you less than Gamepass to do this.

So discounting Gamepass, why PS5 over Series X, simply because there are way more quality exclusives between PS5 and PS4 over Series and One consoles.

With PS5 you can start with the Plus collection to catch-up with some of the best games from PS4, that collection itself would take you are year or 2 depending on how many gams you play. You have God of War, Horizon, Ratchet, Resident Evil 7, Uncharted 4 and etc. Then after you finish those you can continue to get more PS4 games, a simple metacritic search of the top games with a YouTube search would help you out. After you done with the backlog of cheap PS4 games you can then start the PS5 games by then the PS5 games will be dirt cheap.

I've got both and use my Series X by far the most.
With gamepass and xbox rewards points I can't remember the last time I had to pay for a series X game.

That said my fave next gen game was demon souls!

Hard to not recommend the XSX if your interested in playing many different types of games for a lot cheaper. If your a person who only plays a few games a year and love the third person story driven games then I’d probably recommend a ps5. But that might switch as MS has aquired a ton of studios as of late

The xbox doesn't have a single exclusive.

Series X easily. Has GamePass, getting all the RPGs (Starfield, Elder Scrolls, Avowed, whatever inXile make), backwards compatibility going back a few generations. I also like the controller

Series X if you're interested in playing a lot of different games. Microsofts massive first party stable and GamePass is insane.

PS5 if you're interested in multiplayer or only play 1 or 2 big single player games a year.

Speedwagon

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.
Series X since you already have a 360. Don't get the PS5 or you'll miss Xbox Live.
