"If its grid legal, I can build it to win"

First off, whats this grammar?

If you're going for a cinematic/thriller story why not introduce some elements of excitement like I dunno... having the build not be legal. Obviously got to see the actual game to see what happens, maybe someone does cheat, or you have the option to cheat but it has repercussions. I just think this middle ground is too boring, either make it very scripted and exciting or have puring racing, not something in between.

This really doesn't seem any different to those FMV cutscenes before races in old NFS and Midnight Club games, its just fluff to break up the races but has no bearing on it, trying to make it sound like it'll be a big deal is going to blow up in their faces imo. Unless they actually double down on the narrative and manage to blend pure racing with it somehow.

Codemasters always releases broken incomplete games and quite frankly I'm done with them.
Get a QA team and listen to their input dammit.

Looks like the same push for "diversity" too. Hopefully they will tell us which of them is gay. I don't think I could play a racing game if I don't know every driver's sexuality, it's obviously super important to the gameplay as we apparently found out in Apex Legends.
Anti woke in this thread too then I see.

Wow is this place becoming the anti-resetera. It's all over the place in just the same way that it is over there. Two sides to the same coin.

Can't you all just come back and join me in the middle where you used to be? You know, before you let a Google algorithm push you to the left or right?

Some of us haven't moved at all. The mainstream has just been pushing absurdity for so long now we're tired of it.

Being brought up as far right or left isn't any better.

You know what I'm tired of? Either side being mentioned constantly in videogame forums. "This character looks too masculine, they look feminine, that game has removed some violence, it was made by a woman, by a man, by a vegetable dressed as a furry space alien, the world is doomed, what is the world coming to! Etc etc etc etc"

Can't you all just give it a break and care about something actually important? It's so ridiculous and not even relevant to what we're here to discuss ... Videogames!

Listen, I agree with you. Personally, I have never been far right or left, and I don't care for the labels. It's annoying to me and only works to separate people.

In regards to the game, I was hoping they'd make it more like the first GRID but I'm not seeing it.

You say this has no place on a game forum but oddly enough you obviously think it has a place in the games themselves otherwise it wouldn't trigger you so hard when somebody brings up the fact that not every game needs politics and social justice built in to it; least of all a racing game.

I think that adding story modes to racing games isn't a good idea and this comes from someone who loves singleplayer campaigns. Just keep the focus on offering various championships & events to let people drive different cars on different tracks and under different sets of rules.

Zero hype for this game, especially with the reveal trailer being filled with diversity overload and CRINGE (fyi I've spent about 40-50 hours with 2019 GRID, but I wouldn't go back to that game).

The logic doesn't hold up.

I honestly don't have a strong view on whether it should or shouldn't be in a game. I do, however, have a view on how much either 'side' should care about this stuff and how often it should be mentioned on a game forum.

The first GRID from 2008 was so good, I spent a ton of hours on it. They should just remake that with modern graphics, physics, etc.. It would sell tons more than this game ever will.

Thanks for telling me what I should care about and how much :pie_eyeroll:

When I've read Legends I've quickly thought it was a mobile game.

In any case, a racing game with multiple vehicles and a story mode is nothing new, I remember a Toca game for PS2 did the same.

Oh hell, there's been a racing game that's benefited from trying to force a story into the game and this tacky soap opera type thing is really putting me off here.
I know it's early but this has all the markings of being developed by ex Evolutions Studios people just like Onrush, Dirt 5 and Project Cars 3 did. It's so strange, finding out that Evolution were making a new arcade racer used to be so exciting but they just seem to have done nothing enjoyable since some of the staff joined Codemasters. I know that only part of the Evolution team went to Codemasters so maybe the better developers are no longer there. 😢

Doubt this is Evo. Engine looks to be Neon, same as used in CM games, not the new engine used in DIRT5 that's developed by Evo.

And Project Cars 3 was primarily made by SMS.

Meh......I've enough of boring sim or (sim-cade) "just racing" racing games. Cringe FMV does nothing to change that. I want more over-the-top, couldn't possibly happen in real-life arcade racers. Gimme more Motorstorm/Split Second/Road Rash sort of stuff. With very few exceptions, 8th gen was pathetic for actual FUN arcade racers. 9th gen probably won't be any better in that regard, what with boring, stale and sterile sim racers selling better than over-the-top super fun arcade racers.

I would love for there to be some crazy racers again. Hopefully a good one comes around in the next few years.

One day we will get Speed Devils Reborn or Midtown Madness Ultimate. One day...

Yeah no, I agree with you.

I'm not huge on woke-ness at all, and I'm a POC, but there seems to be actual stealth racists in these forums that use the guise of anti-woke to keep shit-talking about the inclusion of color people no matter what.

There are actual instances where it is total complete nonsense and obvious when a company is going "woke", like BF5 & SuperHot change, but just because a person of color is on screen it does not immediately mean that it has to be labelled as "woke" and not just providing a diverse cast for a videogame to reflect the reality that the world we gamers live in, is diverse of skin color.

Some of you seriously need to take a step back from your Anti-SJW crusade and learn to think critically before you yammer off about woke-ism and causing every thread to somehow end up centering around that topic.

Anyway, goddammit, now i'm talking about it.

On topic: It's Codemasters, it's EA. I'll tread lightly.

I really wish they'd just make a spiritual sequel to Motorstorm.

This new Grid looks bad. Cannot stand story in racing games.

Glad to know I’m not the only one thinking the same thing recently - and I could not have put it better myself. I have no problem with somebody having an opinion, but I’d much prefer it if that opinion was not related to the size, shape, race, gender or sexuality of a video game character - it’s fucking ludicrous.

Edit: on topic, I’m not going to moan about another upcoming racer - it looks okay to me, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Loved the first one, the little boxy Karts were amazing to drive. Some hilarious multiplayer games. I can do without all the docudrama bullshit from the second one.

Actually looks way better than I expected and the closest thing to the first game (by far the best one) than the other games which followed.

Might have to get this but being so close to Gran Turismo 7 in release date might make me hold off, especially since this might drop in price a fair bit quickly.

Is it ruining precious thread on opinion forum?. Imagine games themselves getting infested with sexual and racial opinion.

Never tried a wheel on those arcade games. Is it good?
All Codemaster games prior to 2019 had awesome wheel support, but the recent titles have really dropped the ball and this game looks to be the same. All the Grid and Dirt games had pretty good FFB, but starting with Grid 2019 and then Dirt 5 the FFB was really lacking. Dirt 5 was especially bad and they didn't even output telemetry data so that motion systems could be used all previous Dirt games had this support.

From the trailer there didn't appear to be a cockpit view just a behind and hood view so I expect this to be mainly a controller game which is a bit disappointing.

I always felt that the handling and physics were off in Grid. That weirdass chase cam. Tried them all but could never enjoy them. Not a big fan of the racing classes either, always been more of a rally dude.

Grid Legends launches on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Origin on February 25, 2022.

Did they finally decide if they want to go towards Sim or arcade? Grid games have always had the worst feeling physics, just pick a side already.

I was looking forward to this, but having just seen recent footage on YouTube I've noticed quite a lot of the circuits are from previous games. Even the street circuits have the same layout. This just feels like a remake of Grid Autosport.

Lots of gameplay footage here. The story mode will be a nice change of pace from sim racing online.
