I'm probably wrong, there just seems to be a lot of misreporting going on at the moment. Btw, going by Wii U prices this DLC seems very cheap, which is unlike Nintendo.
I get you. It was essentially a dollar a track for the WiiU DLC tracks. This is around 50¢ a track but ask yourself:

Did Nintendo sell enough copies of Mario Kart 8 for WiiU to write off $1 tracks? Did Nintendo sell enough copies of Mario Kart 8 for Switch to write off 10¢ tracks?

Your logic makes 100% sense, I just don't remember last time Nintendo was this generous. Guess they feel comfortable because of huge install base the game has.

Fucking lol. Nintendo is such a weird company. New dlc for a game originally released on 2014.... Or 2017.

Hahaha god damn, and I bet it will sale like crazy....hahha
It's very little work to remaster these courses. And they're charging $25 per pack to an install base of 50m+. It's not that crazy. It's easy money.

They could also use this as a pipeline to train new developers. They’re just giving them the low risk assignment of recreating MK tracks from their childhood in the latest engine. They can write off the entire thing as training/education costs and worst case they sell 15million copies at $25 or another 5 million Switch online expansion plus packs (whatever the second tier is) at $50 a year.

I think it is $25 per pack, not for all of it. (it is for all of it, google is my friend). This is really there to sell people on the enhanced membership. Pretty good tactic. More courses for 8 is also a better idea than a 9 anyway. Game is already as good as its going to ever be.

The Mario Kart 8 DLC will be released in waves until the end of 2023, that means no Nintendo Switch 2 until March 2024. That also means breath of the wild 2 is not attached to Nintendo Switch 2, BOTW is the November game, they're just waiting until summer to reveal a surprise announcement at their summer presentation.

Brilliant decision by nintendo to add a hoard of tracks to the best mario kart eva and its 40 million or so install base.

I'm more happy about this (which I've been calling for) than I would be about a Mario Kart 9 reveal.

The wiiU was Akshully a brilliant public R&D experiment where we were playtesting nintendo's future switch 10+ million selling games for them :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Unless they release Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Deluxe on Switch 2.

This makes me happy.
Mostly because I want Mario Kart 9 on NEWER stronger better hardware.
I'm happy MK9 wasn't wasted on Switch.

48 new maps for mk8 will suffice for now.

It's Wave 1-6, 48 Courses for 24,99$
So it's all for 25$
Kinda weird how it specifies "waves 1-6"... Could we expect more waves in the future?

great i've just been getting back into MK8X with the kids showing interest... this will add more life to it. was worried for a moment that it'd be locked behind the NSO expansion pack ripoff - good thing I can buy separately

of course its gonna sell like crazy

This is actually pretty smart, a way to milk MK8 and provide some content to the fans(since they can't stop asking for DLC in social media) when Switch 2 comes out THEN we will see Mario Kart 9.

We should consider, for most Mario Kart 8 players this is NOT a 2014 game, as they never owned a Wii U. since 2017 it became one of the most popular games ever made

Would have preferred a proper Mario Kart 9, but this is still pretty cool.

To the point it makes me wonder what they'll do with MK9 because it's going to be really hard to follow up a game with such great gameplay and that is soon going to have a ridiculous amount of tracks.

I think the only option for smash and mario kart is to create a soft reboot. For example Super Smash with a new original 12 and a new story to unlock the previous 12 and new characters. Mario Kart 9 full of cameos and tracks from different Nintendo games like the Zelda course.

This is so fucked up. A DLC for a game that was a port and released on this system at launch 5 years ago.,.,.&%$^*. Huh? I should be a stand alone, but now even WiiU Mk8 owners need to buy a new copy to get access. Fuck that.

i prefer it this way honestly, no need to buy a new game or reset my progress, add more maps to whats already a very accessible game. (Frankly this is what theyve shouldve done with mario party)

I just realized that the 8 in the title is in fact an infinite sign, this is mario kart infinite, we'll never get mk9, instead, we'll get infinite waves of dlcs. When switch 2 launches, we'll receive a 4K and 60fps on 4player mode upgrade and so on.

Would that actually be a bad thing? Even by nintendo standards MK8 is still an impressive looking game and making a new game kinda feels pointless whwn the gameplay is already as solid as youd want from mario kart. Having new courses and perhaps new modes here and there for less than half of the price of a new game sounds like a good deal to me

Yes it would be a bad thing. Jeez some of you would let nintendo get away with anything.

mk8 looks good (arguably the best looking native 1080p60 switch game) but its polygon count and lighting could be much upgraded in a sequel. It looks dated and after playing damn near 500 hours between the wii U and switch versions i’m tired of looking at it.

Most of those hours were on the wii U version online… I already wanted a new MK by the time deluxe came out.

I want a pixar quality mario kart with brand new courses and a new gimmick, or not just go back to basics but really nail the track count.

Which is part of my worry… they’re making so many tracks for this will they run out of steam for mk9.

they're obviously milking mk8 and the 40+ million users and remastering old tracks, while a whole other team is developing the next game for the next system, you will have your pixar graphics on a console that can run pixar graphics, and that console is not the current switch. 48 new tracks even if they are remakes are a fantastic deal for $25, see it as a new remaster of mario kart while you wait for the new one. They're not adding new ideas to mk8, because those are ideas are for mk9.

I hope you are right and they are working on mk9 as well.

I skipped on 8 Deluxe because I already owned it on WiiU. If there is a chance I can get this for $25-$30 new or used I'll pick it up and get the DLC ASAP.
I also owned the Wii U version and loved playing it online (for free!) back then but the Switch version allowing you to use two weapons alone changes the whole feel of the game for the better, not to mention the actual battle courses.

Honestly I prefer having one game that is supported for years versus being burned out by constant yearly sequels (like COD). But a two generation old game is kinda pushing it...

We're eventually getting 9.

I just realized that many tracks are from Mario Kart Tour with veeery small changes. Choco mountain (n64) and toad circuit (MK7) are both coming directly from Tour. It seems Sky Garden (GBA) is also coming to Tour. Most of these tracks (if not all of them) are not going to have the same quality as the tracks released with the wii u DLC (which is a shame).

This is pretty cool, really solid piece of DLC. Strange that they waited this long to make more content for the game, but I guess they did not expect MK8D to sell this much.

The only sad thing about this is that I can feel Mario Kart 9 slipping further and further away..

Is Mario Kart Ultimate coming?
Just a theory of mine, but perhaps Mario Kart Ultimate will contain all tracks ever released, same a smash bros Ultimate had all the fighters. Since they remake therefore anyway all the old maps, perhaps they had the idea to also release some of them now for Mario Kart 8 to make some extra cash...

Nevertheless, I think its a good deal. And how would a Mario Kart 9 improve on Mario Kart 8, its not like the graphic would be suddenly so much better. Yes more racers would have been nice, but tracks are the most important thing.

Leave it to Nintendo to charge $25 and not even give you all the tracks at once, lets trickle them out instead of just giving it all to you. Just another ploy to get people on and to say on the expansion pack rip off. And of course regurgitated courses from old games instead of new ones.
