(Hope the game is as good as they say, but Metacritic track record is too unreliable to me)
Then don’t trust it, the reason I’m hyped for Elden Ring not because high score reviews but because I enjoyed FROM’s pervious games. I also didn’t pick up Horizon 2 despite its high score review because I didn’t liked last game or other Guerrilla’s pervious games….it’s that simple.

I'm sorry to doubt you even a little, Miyazaki-san.

Seen a few people in here who atre worried that the game is easy, or easier, but i watched Asmongold play the early look the other day on stream, and he died 55 times in a row to the same boss, and ended the stream without beating it.
Maybe the game does end up easier than the other Souls games i dont know, but its obviously going to be a hard game still overall.
Reviewers are saying it is easier to get into, but by no means an easy game. Still has that challenge pedigree the games are known for.

Well, I didn't expect the game of the generation would launch so early into the generation.

My Horizon playthrough right now:

I've been waffling on buying Horizon the last couple days because the game looks good but I've been caught up in Cyberpunk and waiting for GT7. The reviews for Eden Ring have made the decision for me. It's gonna be an Eden Ring end of Winter (plus Cyberpunk and GT7). Sorry Horizon - you were just a couple weeks too late for now.

Those are some extremely high reviews. Fuck did elden ring already win the GOTY awards? Only GOW ragnarok could end up getting similar score no?

From what I read, it seems it actually has the hardest boss fights in all souls game, but that when it’s either optional, or you can perhaps bypass the dungeon and go explore areas further down to get better items, that you are not gated like other souls games where it was blocking progress. Respawns near them also removes the tedious run back to the boss through the fodder enemies.

I love souls games, but this really bugs me, any other game with poor performance would have a hit or 2 on scores, but not some games, like nintendo ones, R* and From... i wonder y
I would have rated it a wait if it was THAT bad. I did report my issues though in my review. You do see stutters for sure especially coming out of rest sites. However, closing the game and starting again made them go away. My guess is it will impact people differently depending on if they fast travel alot or a little as it seems like bouncing around from place to place a ton of times may be leaving a bit of junk.

PC version seems rough
Edit:
Day 1 patch might fix it according fextralife. He reckons it's anti-piracy software causing it

Mine for ACG

Rated it a buy. It has some issues that did impact just how easily it was to jump into and experience what was played, but none of that stopped me from having an utter blast!

Thanks Karak! Excellent review, as usual.

I feel like I'm in the Matrix, and the only person that's actually unplugged, but this game quite literally looks nowhere as good as what these scores suggest. I've watched hours and hours of footage trying to see what the fuss is all about, and I'm just not seeing it.

From the moment this game was shown everything about it seemed heavily manufactured even though I found the art style and visual direction to be great.

But yea, I'm not buying in at all. I await to see if someone can show me what makes this game so special because usually I'm quite good at feeling out games, and so far those instincts have come back with nothing.

Have you ever played a souls game? The reason people are freaking out is because Elden Ring seems to be taking what made everything special about Dark Souls and pushing it even further in every way. What can't be shown in these trailers and footage is the protracted boss fights that you barely win by the skin of your teeth or the moments of awe when you discover a new area of immense scale and sense of place in the world. You can't see the feeling of exploration or the difficulty of enemies. But people that have played these games can see the glimmer of these awesome moments in the footage.
Elden Ring, from everything we've heard, seems to be the culmination of everything FROM has learned while making our favorite games and giving us what SkillUp refers to as a "double album".

Just seen an early comparison vid and whilst the PS5 version hovers around the high 50’s to 60 fps in performance mode, the Series X seems to hover quite a bit in the 40’s. Obviously, it’s an open world game, but it’ll be interesting to see what DF make of it all.
I watched the IGN video review, which was apparently the PC version, and that didn’t look particularly smooth tbh.

Didnt play any previous From games, because people said they are hard.

but i got free MS money that is expiring was thinking of picking this up.

any of the reviews discuss difficulty?
SkillUp says he one shotted a lot of bosses because the side stuff give good rewards.

I find it funny that yet again Horizon get's released in the same window as another juggernaut and evolution in open world games. I couldn't' even touch Horizon after playing Breath of the Wild, it just felt so sterile to me. Then FromSoft comes and does the same thing to the new Horizon.
This game and BotW don’t make Horizon any better or worse. Horizon 1&2 are what they are, 9/10 open world games that are better than 99% of other open world efforts, and the most beautiful.

BotW and Elden Ring are just once in a generation behemoths. You should still enjoy Horizon for what it is, just maybe after you’ve played Elden Ring to death. Horizon in 3 months time is still going to be great.

you're supposed to play games, not watch them

This is true, but even without playing a game I can watch it and be like "oh man, I can't wait to get my hands on this." This would be the first time ever in history that a game that's supposed to be this good isn't connecting with me in anyway. It's literally bizarre to me.

Open worlds are such pitfalls these days, you tend to fear the worst. But it looks like Miyazaki and his team weren't just looking to cash in on the flavor of the day and actually had a reason for doing what they were doing.

Just the thought of a massive open world, filled with that same Dark Souls-like watchmaker design, and mysteries, secrets and weird bits of lore around every corner...

I felt the same way about Bloodborne, jumped in years late and boy was I so wrong. One of my GOATs.

Good news is From persuaded DF to wait for the day one patch to review performance so hopefully PC and Xbox will see decent improvement (PS seems fine from what I’m seeing?)

ummm….not really? Some games you like some you don’t, that’s just how taste works.

High score is not gonna automatically guarantees you going to like the game.

Yup, the game on PC is only 47GB, thought something was weird. Seems that 13 GB are missing from day One Patch

I'm expecting a very large Dark Souls 4. It's fine to be skeptical. I was skeptical of 10/10s for Deathloop.

I think it's clear this is probably the best Souls game though, so that's going to be fun. I'm honestly not sure I'd rate this game as highly as some of the best of all time, because I usually give that tiny last bit of 0.5 points for innovation. But I have to play the game first and see for myself. It's clearly going to be a super fun game.

It looks so good, my wife is already filing for divorce because I'm going to be abandoning my family for the next month.

ended up buckling up and pre ordering.

I just hope gthat some of the obtuseness of the souls games it's gone..i have no issues finding something by myself, as long as the logic is not completely made up and can't be acquired through common sense
