This, as a gamer myself it is just another form of entertainment like TV, Movies & Music.
People can be excessive with all of those.
Sure a game can have addictive elements but whether you become addicted is down to the person.
But Social Media is everything people excuse those things to be and is damaging to not the only the person using it but society in general.
When it first launched it wasn't that bad, and the generation of that time(my generation) used it as it was intended and some still do.
But now it's something else entirely and evidently toxic
But everything is designed to be addictive theses days.
Streaming services want you to binge watch, developers want you to gamble, etc, etc
The world is just crack addict.

nah but could be a sign of a problem, for example if you suffer from social anxiety of course you’ll spend all your time in your safe place the “home” and gaming can be a way to disconnect from your problems/reality.

Yeah the internet is our alter-ego - an avatar! We are less restricted by social interactions.
It’s so easy to portrait yourself as having an awesome life, being righteous etc without that happening on reality!
Most of it is just cries for attention and hopping “likes” will fill that emotional/real life void.

If some individuals were not properly raised by their parents to learn self-discipline, the problem is not the pastime it's the lack of taught discipline in children that manifests as a gaming/sex/porn/drug addiction when older.
We should be putting the onus on parents to properly raise their kids instead of lazily giving them an iPad to entertain them like many parents do these days.
