Targeting terrorists with a D-Pad
These last few weeks have felt like years! And it still feels like an eternity.

I wasn't the biggest fan of rouges... but after Returnal, I'm in.

Pretty unique concept! I'll be there Day 1, probably on PC but still mulling it over.

I'm certainly considering it. Just don't know if I'll have time to play it much at the moment, so I might wait a bit. Not happy that it's got roguelike elements, but it just depends on how its done.

Nice little article with the game dev from Melbourne, Australia

Cult of the Lamb is described as a mash-up between a “base builder” game and a “dungeon crawler game” – like if you scrambled Nintendo’s cosy-vibed Animal Crossing with the horror-themed The Binding of Isaac.

“Basically, you play as a little lamb character and you go and start a cult of other little animals,” says Wilton, Creative Director of Massive Monster games studio.

“You go out, find followers and bring them back to your base. Then you need to look after them – give them food, keep them happy. But then if they’re naughty, you can sacrifice them to some dark gods.”

Got it pre-ordered on PS5, love me a good roguelite, last truly *great* one I played was probably Hades, Dead Cells before that. Bought fairly recent ones like Curse Of the Dead Gods and Skul The Hero Slayer day 1 and while they were good they didn't have that special something, hoping this will be on of those classics.

Alright, after playing for 5 hours and clearing the opening area (didn't die once, definitely easier than other rogulites) I can already say that this will end up being one of my faves in the genre, sitting alongside the likes of Binding of Isaac, Dead Cells, Hades, Rogue Legacy and Darkest Dungeon, it's that good.

First off, the visuals, absolutely gorgeous, the vivid colour palette popping off my OLED TV. The overall vibe reminds me most of BoI and Hollow Knight, dark and macabre while also being endearing and cute. Some of the animations literally have me laughing out loud, there is a wonderful charm to every single aspect to this game including the gibberish voices (which don't always work, hello Yooka-Laylee) that are absolutely fantastic here.

Combat feels immediately responsive and satisfying. Similar to Enter the Gungeon a dodge roll will be your one and only way to avoid damage, melee weapon on one input, magic spell on another, simple and intuitive. PS5 has great DualSense support, whether chopping down a tree or launching eldritch tentacles, really adds to the overall kinetic feeling of your actions, I love it.

One of the most important elements of any roguelite is how it handles permanent unlocks/progression. I can say right now this game might have the most unlocks and satisfying progression of any I've played in the genre. There are a ridiculous amount of things to unlock from Tarot Cards, weapons, spells, character upgrades, facilities, doctrines, rituals, decorations, blueprints and more. You're *constantly* making progress, consistently gaining access to something new, shiny and cool.

Player agency? Boy do you have a choice in what kind of cult leader you want to be but it can essentially boil down to this: do you want your followers to love you or fear you? Maybe a combination of both, the benevolent tyrant lol. There are choices to make that seem to lock you out of other ones. Example, a ritual that allows two of your followers to battle to death OR a ritual that allows you to marry two of your followers. The appeal and charm of the cutscenes/animations that come along with these choices cannot be overstated and I'm already contemplating starting another save file to see the stuff I locked myself out of.

I could write another 10 paragraphs, the whole management/sim aspect is surprisingly engaging and addictive, combining this with the traditional, combat fueled dungeon crawling is truly something unique and strangely hypnotic, it's a brilliant idea executed *perfectly*.

I'll end it with this: 1 of my followers approached me and asked me to literally feed another one of my followers shit, I obliged him and boosted his loyalty. A day later he approaches me again and asks me to do it *again* to the same follower - who still hasn't recovered - because the first time was so "hilarious". Well, I humored him but after that I put him on permanent expedition duty, going out into the wilds to gather resources for me, coming back exhausted, sleeping to recover before I send him out again, karma's a bitch.

So far one of my followers got to old age and told me they are close to dieing and they only have a few days left i have been wanting to sacrifice one to see what happens seemed like a perfect choice the ritual is fun to watch. The balancing act of going out to battle & keeping them all ok at home is a tricky one as sometimes you are in the middle of the dungeon & you get messages saying craps going down back at camp. I like how there's a lot to keep you busy between the side quests & unlocking stuff as well as finding the cards and other diversion.

That sounds really good lol.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space

Oh baby. If I wasn't on a private WoW binge + Kirby + Two Point Campus right now I'd be in. Will pick it up after I put down some others.

Yeah, this game is fantastic so far. I'm only a few hours in, but can't wait to play more.

Art style and music are really good. Also didn't expect some elements to remind me so much of Inscryption.

Fantastic game so far. Loved every minute of my 6 hours so far. I saw lots of people dealing with bugs though but luckily haven't experienced any. Stuttering/fps issues, the tier 3 unlock bug, weird follower quest issues. I did see (I think in ACG/karaks review) that the recent nvidia driver was causing the stuttering for him and reverting back fixed it. I'm on AMD so smooth sailing for me so far though!

Game is insanely addicting.

I had one follower who got suspicious of the other and told me to keep an eye on him, then imprison and sacrifice him, and finally he was like "You know, I wish he was here with us, could you somehow bring him back?"
Good thing that my cult is known for killing off and resurrecting its members.

This looks pretty damn cool, but I'm getting my ass kicked by bills currently :(

I'll hopefully grab this in the future :D

Man, same..bill are killing me..hoping to pick it up soon.
My electric for a single bedroom flat is now £100 a month :l (it's only me and my partner living there)
It was only £40 a month a couple years ago!
& Food/travel to work/everything else in general just keeps going up in price, it's wild.
I get a 5p increase per hour at work recently, but it makes no difference at all, due to price increase of everything.

Reverse groomer.
This game has been showing up everywhere on steam. I'm interested but I don't have the cash and another indie I was looking forward to is coming out in a few days (Spark the Electric Jester 3, August 15) so I have no idea when I'll play it. But I will get around to it. The positive reviews on this thread made sure of that

The mechanics of this game seem similar to actraiser in terms of genre hybrids. I liked that game and this one seems far more interesting and fun. I hope I'm proven right

Is it true that the animal crossing part is way better and deep than the dungeon crawler part?

Because i absolutely don't care for the first one and i'm only in if the second one is as robust or better.

This game str8 ripped me off xenoblade, like all the way and i love that game.

Shit is like an addiction, i'm up at 4 in the morning randomly making sure my followers know who the hell is in charge round here 😂😂😂

Played the demo and loved the whole idea and setting and found the gameplay to be solid. Pre-ordered the boxed version for PS5 for the collection but will probably play it later this year on the Steam Deck if it's on sale and running on the Deck.

I'm having a blast, but from the reviews I've seen this is not a game that you're going to be playing endlessly like other rouge-likes or settlement sims. As long as you walk in with that outlook you will enjoy the 20 or so hour game.

Anyone know if this is getting a GamePass or PS Plus release? This is the kind of game I usually leave until they come on one or the other.
