Looks like we might be hearing about the next Yakuza title in just a few days.

Or maybe... Ishin and Kenzan being translated?

Shoot me (with a rubber bullet) if old.

Thanks for the info!!! Very much looking forward to this, any announcements are welcome in my book. I need more Ichiban and Co in my life.

I am very excited! I still haven’t played the majority of the games (got burned out after binging 0, 1, and 2 plat runs, still missing a few trohpies in 0 and the challenges in 1). I need to return with 3 at some point here soon! I have around 4-5 games I am playing at the moment (Patapon, LocoRoco, Voice of Cards, Evil Dead), but once I finish those I will jump back into Yakuza 3.

I really hope we get the final remaining spinoffs being translated and maybe even a port of the mediocre PS3 Zombie title.

Who? I don't know this RGG. I suppose they've made the Yakuza series?
Yeah I probably should have included "Yakuza devs" in the title, sorry about that.

More than likely this will be a turn based game.

No issues with it, but I'm more inclined to the brawler style.

Ryū ga Gotoku is the Japanese name for the franchise.
I've never cared until Like A Dragon. If they all go turn-based JRPG like that, I'm in.
I remember they shown some sneak peak of their next title and it had Ichiban and Nanba, so yeah it probably is another turn-based JRPG.

I'm fine with that, but also hope they improve on it. Combat was a bit mindless in LaD.

I'd like to see Yakuza 8 or a Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan+Ishin! properly localized colection to be released in the west, maybe with some additional tweaks/minor improvements for next gen.

Regarding Yakuza 8 I think they'll continue with the turn based rpg gameplay, but I'd prefer the 'real time' brawler gameplay.

Anyone watching this?

I think they just said both Kiryu and Ichiban will be the protags of Yakuza 8.

Has this series been renamed "Like a Dragon" in the west? That was the subtitle of a Yakuza spin-off right? I'm confused.

Or is that the English translation of the Japanese name?

I'm hyped but....kinda confused on where this fits in the timeline, not gonna lie. I might need a refresher lol. I still haven't finished Yakuza 6, but I'm currently playing Like a Dragon. I didn't want to do it like that, but I broke my hand and couldn't really play the regular Yakuza games while it was healing, so I had to move on to the turn based one, and now I'm getting shit all twisted up in my head on when what happened in the series. I've finished Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, then Yakuza 4 and 5, just as a kind of reference to why I'm a bit confused.

I goddamn love these games so much, but they can be a bit convoluted and difficult to keep up with. Every game is so big and has so many characters and developments that when you view the franchise as a whole, it's really quite a gargantuan series to try and take in.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

It looks like all future entries will come with the "Like a Dragon" name instead, which I guess makes sense cause that's literally the name of the franchise in Japan.

Seems a bit risky to give up a well known name like Yakuza, but alright!

Maybe the games aren't that much about the actual Yakuza anymore? I haven't played them (I would like to, but I'm not sure where to start).

This game serves as a link between Yakuza 6 and Yakuza 8. It takes place after the ending of Y6.

Ryū ga Gotoku is the Japanese name for the franchise.

Took me a bit to figure out too... SEGA listed one of the games as a "classic high-octane RGG action-adventure", and I couldn't figure out for the life of me what genre "RGG" was, if it was some new term for Action-RPG or what?

So confounding of SEGA, to change the game after all these years from Yakuza to Like a Dragon (which I get) and then also refer to the games under the Japanese game in an international announcement. They're really testing the mid-level fans' ability to keep up...
