ELDEN RING |OT| One Ring To Rule Them All

So you can’t just be randomly invaded against your will?

I use the remedy but then nothing at all appears on the ground. I can only see player messages and their blood splats. I’m going to try and level up a bit.

Just checked, all password fields are blank.
No you need to have been summoned or summon for your party to be invaded.

You can be summoned to help fight an invader if you have the blue ring, which you can buy from the twin maiden husks.

Here’s a test: activate your golden effigy and select ‘near and far’. If you’re not summoned for Malenia quickly then something is off.

What levels are your highest normal and special weapons?

I’m level 100 now, just used the golden effigy and selected near and far as you suggested.

Just been summoned in to someone else’s game. The boss wasn’t animated correctly but guessing he might have had a poor connection? I’m on fibre/Ethernet.

No. You either need to summon a cooperator or use the "Taunter's tongue" to open a slot for an invader.

If you want to check you ability to summon/ be summon go to Raya Lucaria gate and check if you see red mark or put your red mark. It's a hotspot for pvp. You should be summoned or see a lot of mark

Yeah if the boss just kinda stood still then it’s the host with a bad confection.

Level 100 is low for her… props lol. I think I got to her at level 150ish.

I reckon you’ll have better luck if you pump up 20 levels more or so. People doing Malenia at level 100 and below are probably wanting to go solo.

I’d just read that she’s apparently really hard but just tried her a few times with mimic tier +10 and got her to 1/5th health a couple of times. If you keep distance with rock sling sometimes she just keeps walking towards you without attacking. I’ll have a big crack at her tonight when the kids are asleep.

Can only play Elden ring when the kid is asleep crew.

Hope to god he doesn’t wake up when in co-op crew.

Wish there was an in-game pose to say ‘hold on, kid just woke up’ crew.

Ok she’s got a second stage :lollipop_fearful:
Yes she does :messenger_weary:

You need to learn how to dodge the big flower attack, either by dodging at the last second before it hits you and then running away, or having her aggro your spirit summon. She also has another deadly attack that requires some practice to learn how to dodge.

Do you have PS+? If not you can't summon other players. I wasn't aware of this until I tried summoning a fellow Gaffer here.

Also I'd say you need to be at least in your 120s levels.

If you don't mind using OP spirit ashes like the Mimic Tear or the Black Knife Tiche, they will be of immense help in this fight (AND the final boss).

Made some good progress through Mt. Gelmir and Volcano Manor. I murdered Patches on principle way back in March so I guess I locked myself out of assassination missions which is fine. This is my "good" play through - I'm saving stuff like Varre and Dung Eater (who I also murdered) for another "evil" one.

I think I'm at the final boss for Volcano Manor. At least it feels like it, teleported into a cave with a big gold boss fog.

I remember reading like months ago that I shouldn't beat this boss until ... I do something else. Memory is a little hazy. Is this correct? Should I wait and come back?

All in all, I clocked 22.2 hours in my first three days back with the game (first time I've had more than one day off since April!). Made tons of progress. Shoring up my build nicely. It is SO good to finally get back to this game.

The only NPC I killed was Shabriri cause I don’t like what he stands for.

As for the boss of Volcano Manor, my memory is a bit hazy but you’re supposed to use a special weapon which can be found right where you get teleported in the boss’s arena. I’m not sure if you need to do something for the weapon to be there. Maybe talk to one of the NPCs in the entrance of Volcano Manor? I remember a dude (a ghost maybe) sitting at the end of a corridor.

I believe you don’t want to kill the boss until you’ve done all the assassination missions. Once you kill him the mansion empties out.

I can't do the assassinations ...

I didn't find any special weapons. I'll have to check again but I found a fuckton of secrets and I think I was pretty thorough.

Played a few hours after work last night. Put down Morgott, Baleful Shade (Blaidd phantom), and Astel. Blaidd shade was stupidly difficult even slightly over-leveled. Astel was a beautiful, eerie and really unique fight. Reminded me of a much better version of the Rom the Vacuous Spider fight from Bloodborne.

Much to my surprise I emerged from the Void into that region of Liurnia I've been trying to get to since the beginning - the plateau above the Albinauric Village. Didn't expect it to be a fully fleshed out little area with ruins and such. I'll finish exploring that tonight and hopefully wrap up Ranni's quest. It's been a pretty amazing quest so far - definitely a standout among From's quests. I can't imagine missing it and not seeing all the areas and bosses it involves. Lake of Rot filled me with dread when I got there but it wasn't so bad. The Dragonkin Soldier was a challenge because you had to stay on the platforms though.

As to the plateau in Liurnia, thank god I remembered the Heal trick for those godforsaken centipede/multi-armed fuckers who teleport around. They are probably the hardest enemies in the game for me without the Heal trick.

Fuck those guys so hard.

Ranni's quest ends in that area. Watch out for a dragon there.

The whole quest is fantastic, very long but totally worth it with the various areas and bosses. Though I didn't encounter the Dragonkin Soldier.

Yeah loving her quest. Strangely un-obtuse too. Don't need a guide or anything like some. Looking at you Siegmeyer.

Dragonkin Soldier pops up in the middle of the Lake of Rot. You can hit a pressure plate and it raises three tiny little platforms for you to stay out of the water/rot. Tough encounter because he has those huge sweeping attacks and you're basically forced to stay on these little platforms and manage the rot with bolluses if needed all while fighting him.

I personally preferred Sellen's sidequest and thought that talking to a doll three times at a specific site of grace to advance the Ranni quest was absurd.

What is the healing trick for the teleporting revenants? I have always just hit them hard and fast the moment they spawned or wore them down at a distance.

Anything that heals in an AoE does massive damage to them. A regular Heal incantation is enough to stagger them for a critical. If I see one spawn I pop the Heal and hold it until it comes at me. Makes them fairly trivial once you get the timing down.

Edit- pretty sure I've missed out on Sellen. I met her, found her doppelgänger in some ruins. But ... I'm pretty sure I missed a step and have found stuff out of order. Seluvis is also dead if I need him for her quest at all ...

Unless Sellen is hit you can pursue her masters' spells and complete her quest. Otherwise you must seek absolution at the Church of Vows. Seluvis is not directly tied to her quest despite being an old acquaintance of her's.

Nice after-work session last night. Mopped up the Moonlight Altar and finished Ranni's quest. I didn't think I'd have to beat FOUR dragons, a Red Wolf and a reasonably tough Evergaol boss.

Blackknife Ring Leader Alecto has that one grab move that is super tough to avoid and kills me in one hit if I'm below max health at all. This is with 40VIG. Ended up just stunlocking her with the Treespear and never taking a hit. That buff to poise damage in 1.07 is pretty nice.

From there I returned to Volcano Manor and took down Rykard. Definitely one of the harder gimmick bosses in the catalog. Got fed up and used a bunch of my extraneous Somber Stones to bump the Serpent Hunter to +5 and then stomped him.

Got the Treespear up to +24 and the Inseparable Blade to +9 and went for the Path of Rold. Took down the Fell Twins in the dark and activated Morgott's Great Rune.

Realized I forgot to murder Tanith and her Crucible Knight while I was at the Manor so that's going to happen soon.

Now onto the Forbidden Lands tonight! Looks spooky - perfect for a Halloween night.

Pretty decent 3-hour session!

Took down Commander Niall. Took a few tries. Those shade adds - specifically the one with dual swords - hit like trucks. Once I decided to just smite them with Lightning Spear instead of participating in the 3v1 I beat it first try. Haligtree is officially an option now.

Almost seems mystical since I've heard so much about it from you lot for the past number of months without being able to play. I'm finally there. Whew.

Good job. Haligtree was great, I enjoyed the variety in environments as you progress. Hope you’re ready for some platforming!

Not played properly for a few days. Cracked her just now. Easy as piss in the end.

Buffed my magic with Jellyfish Shield and Graven Mass 1&2/Ritual Sword Talisman and Howl of Shabriri.

Summoned +10 mimic, trapped her first phase near the entrance to the room and Rock Slinged to stagger whilst my mimic used Comet Azure.

Made sure I used the buff on my shield/Howl of Shibriri just before the second stage, ran under her first attack, turned around and hit her with my Wondrous Physick for a super long buffed Comet Azure.

Took about 25 attempts tonight, made it to the second stage about 8 times but kept messing up the timing of my buffs.

Can someone gift me some weapons Im level 42 and can’t do anything against invaders 😭
Invasions are opt-in for Elden Ring and a FromSoft first. This means you need to use an item to put a sign down and allow invasions. There are no invasions without your permission.

Are you struggling with NPC red phantoms?

I intend to do a playthrough with a Confessor (12 STR, 12 DEX, 14 FTH, 9 INT, 9 ARC) or Vagabond (14 STR, 13 DEX, 9 INT, 9 FTH, 7 ARC) who avoids Melina like the plague. This effectively means no leveling up, no summons, and no Roundtable Hold. I have roughly a 10 point leeway for each stat using Talismans. I need recommendations for great melee weapons to max out for the final battles with Hoarah Loux and Radagon/Elden Beast.

I’m joining random games for co op and summoning people to help me with levels but we always get attacked by some red dudes.

Gotcha. Not much you can do there. Get your primary weapon to a decent place, but even then you'll probably be no match for a dedicated PvP build.

Consider not summoning/joining games until you're right at the boss fog gate if you really want to avoid the reds. Alternatively consider grabbing a secondary weapon for PvP if your primary isn't built for it (i.e. longsword/spear/weapons with bad PvP movesets) and upgrading it if you're enjoying the multiplayer.

Personally I love PvP but its def not for everyone and as a FTH build with a Great Spear as my primary I've had to adapt a lot and upgrade a few dedicated PvP weapons along the way.

Let us know how you're getting on!

Yes I know I’m a pathetic little bitch but wow is late game Comet Azure broken. Dealt 50k damage in one shot to the back of Lichdragon Fortissax last night.

Godskin Duo, Maliketh, Hoarah. Slain with absolute ease.

I’m going to scum save for the Plat tonight, and will start a non-noob Robert Baratheon playthrough on my Series S soon.

I did that to Mohg last night on my other playthrough. Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear with Cerulean Hidden Tear in my Flask of Wondorous Physique. Terra Magica with Comet Azur. Lusat's Glintstone Staff in left hand with Contagious Fury buff from JellyFish Shield in right. I even had the poison buffs from Mushroom Crown and Rotten Winged Insignia Talisman after consuming a Raw Meat Dumpling. He is just one of those bosses with no dodging ability. It can also be pulled off reliably on the Draconic Tree Sentinels and the Giant Gargoyle in front of the Bestial Sanctum. My only regret is I forgot to use Azur's Glintstone Crown.

Azur's the quickest way to insane damage, but it's not the only way. One shotting Malenia's forms is something I've seen various melee builds do, the damage stacking potential in this game is insane. It's by far the easiest game From's done if you're willing to stack damage. And why not do it if something is giving you trouble? It's all part of the intended mechanics

am i right in assuming that Sir Gideon Ofnir plotted to kill the tarnished through ensha?
His only apology was something along the lines of "Ensha got rather ahead of himself", so he wasn't very sympathetic. When you add on the fact that Gideon had the village from which you get the item that triggers the invasion slaughtered (maybe by Ensha), it's not much of a stretch to think if Ensha wasn't sent him he would have sent him before long.

Ensha is actually invading you to get the Secret medallion.
It triggers after you get one half of it.

I know Gideon is behind the Albinauric village attack but I don't remember if Ensha is acting on his order for your invasion.

Rex_DX

I think it's left ambiguous as to whether Gideon ordered the hit or if Ensha acted on their own volition. I know I was invaded immediately after finding the first half of the Haligtree Medallion outside the Albinauric Village. I haven't beat the game yet so I may have a lot more to learn from Gideon though.

That said it happened so early in the game I never really felt any weight from the event. I hit the Village of the Albinaurics pretty early. Way before attempting Raya Lucaria - it's right there to the west in Liurnia - and I'd only been to Roundtable Hold like ... three or four times at that point. Not really enough time to have any opinion of Gideon, Ensha, and certainly not enough time to realize who was behind the attack on the village. I vaguely remember thinking the medallion was the trigger but only because nothing else of substance had happened yet.

Basically I think the invasion should be triggered upon the discovery of both halves instead of just one. I just grabbed the second half at Castle Sol after 150 hours. If Ensha had been edgelording for 100+ hours and THEN invaded I'd think that was wild instead of weird.

Just wanted to let you know that reading the first page of this thread nine months after release caused my phone to force close my music app to free up memory
I have a confession to make about the OT first page : I never could see it. It takes to damn long to charge.
Even now I am trying to load it. Too many gifs... And to be honest I don't like it. Many of them could have been fixed picture (I just see a gif of a table for the different edition or for the control scheme...)

I appreciate the dedication for the OT creator, but not my style.

Just took down the Fire Giant for the first time. Fun, kinda gimmicky fight though? Took a little while to realize you couldn't break the shackle on the non-injured leg. Once I realized only one was weak I finished in a couple tries.

Kinda happy with the outcome - I finally beat him when he rolled around and just happened to place that big eye riiiight in front of me. Treespear says hello.

Anyway, good times. I feel like I'm getting close to endgame type stuff because the Flame of the Giants is right across this ominous looking chain.

Should I proceed or go use the Haligtree Medallion?

Fire Giant is a peculiar fight. A bit hit or miss.

Solo with torrent it's a interesting fight. With summon without torrent it's more annoying.

You can proceed to the flame you want. You're quite close to the end now but you can still advance a bit of you want.

You could also use the medallion. It leads to pretty challenging areas but I guess you should be at good lvl now.

I would go to the flame just to see what's after. Then you could decide to explore it or go with the medallion

Appreciate the advice, DelireMan7 DelireMan7 -

I decided to use the medallion. Been exploring the Consecrated Snowfields. A bit of a mixed opinion on this area so far. Its horrifying and cinematic to have like - a giant bear/Dragonkin Warrior appear out of a whiteout blizzard. Or to suddenly realize all those locked-on enemies you can't see is a massive convoy approaching through the snow. These are memorable moments. In actual practice though the blizzard portion of the Snowfields is a bit tedious - thank god From had the good sense not to make the entire area with that visibility. Plus ... it brings back DS2 Crown of the Ivory King PTSD. If I see a fucking reindeer I swear ...

Started by making my way to the mine on the map and blew through it. Confidently entered the boss arena and was met by a repeat boss in Astel. This one was so much harder, took me a good while.

Kept exploring the western edge and happened upon a sleeping bear, larger than most of the one's I'd seen. Decided to try my luck in case he had a good item ... tough fight, I SUCK at the bears. No items but the fight made me accidentally fall of a cliff and on to a teleporter in the middle of nowhere. Took it of course. Guess I found the Palace I've been staring at from Siofra for 100+hours. Holy shit, this game. Explains the lone Sanguine Noble invader way out in the dead forest in the Snowfields. Was curious about him, nice touch.

Made it through the beginning, a threepeat invasion from Whitemask Varre and what I hope is the final swamp level of the game. Stopped after dying a few times to the double Sanguine Noble fight.

Finally making progress here as we approach the 10-month anniversary of the game. What an absolute epic.
