Halo: Reach |OT7| What are They to Say Now?

No I don't mean like, an event at some venue with tons of people. I mean like, announce a date for the reveal. Have a countdown. Build hype. Build hype. Then reveal like on IGN or even on Halo.xbox.com. Something like that.

Agreed. (It was me that said that).

Announce a date of the reveal, reveal it that day on their website. Hype will build, all the gaming sites will pick it up, and pick up the announcement. Exactly what GTA V did for their trailer.

sigh

After all this wait when Halo 4 finally shows up it better do it in a spectacular fashion. At the very least tons of multiplayer footage, a bit of campaign, some music from the game and a date for the public beta #1.

What happens when there is no public beta?

Everyone loves the beta. Hates the full game.

This way the retail game IS the beta. 100% love.

Halo 4 news thoughts...

-It's 343 now and they'll have a different style for announcements even though it's still Microsoft owned.
-Reach was shown prematurely and wasn't received as well, at least by some. Graphics weren't quite up to par, etc
-4 could be so drastically different that they are not ready to solidify certain things by showing them and want freedom still.
-NextBox rumors are slowly building. Perhaps it'll end up being a launch title so they are waiting for now. This doesn't seem likely but still a possibility.
-Halo is awesome, but saying anything right now might not be worth as much as it would be later. So many games just came out that everyone is still on a high from them and more news could be lost. It'd be more effective to say at a later time. While it was a remake, CEA was still recent enough to effect news for 4. Just bad timing.

It's probably a bit of all of those but mostly the last one. That said, I also wish nothing had been shown yet. I'd rather just know its coming but have no news. CG teasers suck.

Heck, go the Skyrim route. Bethesda said, hay guys we're dropping a trailer. Tomorrow. Internet explodes for a day, and then epic trailer drops.

When it's ready. There's no rush.

Frankie has confirmed, directly, several times that Halo 4 is coming out for the 360. Other than that, good list. I know that Bungie said a lot of the team didn't want to show the stuff they did in that first mag. It was a pre-alpha build from November.

Don't care about trailers or teasers. Gameplay and or map reveals only please. If it takes until June to see that, I'll wait.

I find the lack of Halo 4 news disturbing.

Seriously, all we have seen is a cg trailer with ugly chief, a bunch of concept art thrown together and a vid of a bunch of guys fyring potato cannons in the woods :/

The calm before the storm.

They say the longer the calm, the longer the storm.

What was the new trickle like after the trailer released?

Shortly before the trailer came out, Bethesda was describing some of the content in the game, without showing. The trailer hit a few weeks later, and was followed up by magazine articles such as OXM with new details. Pretty steady drum-beat of new information from there, pretty much every month, peaking at the 20-minute Quake-con and PAX demos.

The trailer hit late February, and the game in November. I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar cadence to Halo 4's reveal.

I agree with senador regarding the timing - it should be when it's ready to be shown. Both Halo 3 and Reach made debuts in pre-alpha form, much earlier than they needed to be.

I don’t think that they want us to wait. Camp out of their Studio in these cold days and some of the developers will bring you a hot chocolate with cookies and say that you should have a bit longer patience. Look at the staff of 343i, there are only a few studios I can put my towel away and don’t have panic. And 343i is one of them. Even if you don’t like the actual situation of Reach but they did the impossible with the .Map files. They took bloom away from us, nerfed Armor Lock and celebrated the 10th Anniversary of Halo on an incredible way (imo). So I can wait till E3 to see some real stuff. I have my new Forerunner book which is thrilling, a playable version of Halo: Reach which is fun for me and the Sparkast tease an innovative marketing for Halo 4(if they can pull it off). And if they show us some stuff, it’ll kick our ass badly and make the wait for the game more painful.

Until now it is Microsoft's only big hardcore title for the Holiday season. Do people really think that MS wants the normal gamer forget Halo 4 is coming?

To be fair, Skyrim was revealed at the VGAs, and Bethesda stayed silent until February. But yeah, there was a pretty steady flow of info from then on.

Well on the positive side of the lack of info at least we are not getting false info about whats in the game (Halo 3 scarab chase level)

Get back on the Xbox tonight.

What are you guys playing? I bet it's not as fun as TOR.

CES is in January and I am on a panel talking about movies and games. But I am not announcing a Halo movie, because we are not currently working on one and I am not talking about Halo 4.

I set your expectations to zero so Son am not disappoint.

Is GDC in March? I'm getting old, I forget these things.

That is one heck of a trailer. So epic.

Halo is more difficult, though -- 343i has to please the campaign fans and the MP fans. Otherwise, there's gonna be some major heckling on the forums.

Edit: Thought yall might like my addition to the Adventures in Griefing thread:

My buddy and I were forced to play Headhunter on The Cage shortly after Halo Reach came out. If you know anything about Reach, you know how miserable this map + gametype is. And not only that, but our two team mates quit out. Sooooo, each time we were about to die, we would jump off the walkways and commit suicide, denying our enemy their point. We were laughing our ass off the whole time. Truly the only way to enjoy Headhunter.

Don't forget you can win a download code for the Halo Anniversary soundtrack. I'll pick one randomly later this day.

Heck, the soundtrack is pretty good.

Who wants to join me? I don't start classes until the 17th so I have some time..

It wasn't revealed, it was announced, just like Halo 4 was: with a teaser trailer that showed nothing of the game; just some teasers as to the premise. We are now in that space post-announcement but before we've seen the game or know what it's going to be like. I was holding up Skyrim as one way to end that period of time: by announcing the debut of the first in-game look, one day in advance.

The point being that we don't need a big awards show or convention or huge countdown to align to. Microsoft could decide to reveal the game on their own terms. Their extended silence since the announcement at E3 makes me hopeful they are doing just that.

I think 343 is really going to put a large emphasis on graphics for Halo 4. I just feel it in my bones. They wanna make people say "Wow!" when they see it. Have one of those "Video footage taken in game" at the bottom. Shit like that.

I really love playing Halo with you guys. Some seriously fantastic times. We laughed (at me), we cried (... well I did when you laughed at me) but at the end of the day it was all good fun (for you guys).

I can't wait to see how Halo 4 will innovate. It's going to be an amazing journey until it eventually drops.

When do you guys think the Halo 4 beta will go down? If they follow the same Halo release dates maybe it will happen around late May or early June?

Halo 4 is listed as a "Holiday", not "Fall" release as Halo 3 and Reach were. Given that, it is probably not coming out in September, but in November.

How that effects the dates of a possible public "beta" is really hard to guess. Depends what milestone build they want to use for a public test if they choose to do one.

There will be no Halo 4 beta.

BELIEVE

Honestly, I don't consider a public one a given.
