In this thread, we discuss games that should be made, and why

RurouniZel

Asks questions so Ezalc doesn't have to
What I'd really like to see in this thread isn't just posts with a name like "Shenmue 3" and then nothing else. Lots threads do that already. I'm specifically interested in why these games SHOULD be made, not why we want them as fans. I believe that kind of requirement would make the ideas more interesting to read and more engaging to discuss. I'll start by giving a couple of examples.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!!/Elite Beat Agents 3DS

To me, this one seems like it should be a no brainer. iNiS doesn't seem to be up to terribly much these days, and right now there are three music games hitting up the 3DS in short order in Japan (Rhythm Thief is already out, Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy coming out shortly, and Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai hits in early March). Of these, one is coming stateside next month (Rhythm Thief) and one is probably likely to come stateside (Theatrhythm). The system is being buttered up by 3rd parties for music games, it seems like a perfect time to bring the Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents back to the scene.

This especially makes sense to me when you also take into account Nintendo's new found readiness to apply DLC to upcoming releases. Theatrhythm is already going to do this by having DLC song downloads, Nintendo and iNiS could easily add new Ouendan/EBA chapters/songs via DLC for increased longetivity/extra money. It is for these reasons that I think Nintendo would be foolish not to give it another go with our favorite dancing, cheering motivators.

New Legend of Zelda and/or New Metroid (3DS or Wii U)

Mario has always sold reasonably well, but there was a period after Mario Kart 64 where games with Mario on them sold modestly, but nowhere near the prime of his heyday. In 2006, Nintendo revived the Mario platformer in a MAJOR way by releasing a new game done mostly in the old style with only the addition of his new moves from the 3D installments and 3D models in place of sprites. It sold millions and became one of Nintendo's first modern "evergreen" titles. Upgrading the game for Wii provided more millions of sold copies for Nintendo's bin-o-money.

Zelda still does well in the US, but in Japan this series is nowhere near the prime it enjoyed during its Ocarina of Time release in 1998 or even Windwaker in 2002. Skyward Sword sold worse than the 3DS remake of Ocarina in Japan. Metroid: Other M bombed on all fronts. I think Nintendo can't afford to let these franchises in particular wane with only Mario to carry the torch of assured sales figures. The problem is that they've become convoluted and bogged down by stories and expectations. Similarly to how NSMB rebooted Mario platformers in 2006 and Donkey Kong Country Returns successfully rebooted that franchise back in 2010, a "return to form" reboot of these two franchises could do wonders, especially in Japan.

Streets of Rage (HD platforms)

There's a big market for Sandbox games in the west, and if handled properly Sega could easily adapt the setting/style of the Streets of Rage franchise into a open ended Sandbox style experience ala GTA or Saints Row. The IP is there, Sega just needs to use it wisely. Give it to the Yakuza team to make a great sprawling game after they finish Yakuza 5 and you could have a major hit in the states (unlike Binary Domain which will likely fail despite probably being very good.)

A console sequel to Star Fox 64.

Star Fox 64 is probably my favorite game of all time. I know there was a remake for the 3DS, one or two NDS game, but Star Fox deserves a true console game, with a decent controller to play the game properly. And forget that Game Cube crap stuff @@

I really thought that the wiimote would have given star fox a good control option, but Nintendo per usual loves to break my heart and decided not to release a proper S.F game in more than 10 years.

Pokemon MMO.

Of course it'll never happen but just imagine how awesome it would be to see wild pokemon running around in real time and team rocket peeps swooping in every once and a while. You could start your own gym and whatnot.

Resident Evil 4. Because it's been ages since we had a Resident Evil game. And I'm not talking about those middling Outbreak games.

ETA: I forgot, a new F-Zero and a new Legacy of Kain. The F-Zero can wait until the Wii U is released. I want only the best for it. The LoK can be anything. Damned near anything. A 2D sidescroller for Fuck's sake, I care not as long as I get a new Kain.

Kill Bill Game

This is the perfect movie for a game. In the movie you have to fight people in your past who betrayed you, and finally kill bill. Those enemies are the sub bosses after every world, Bill is the final boss. There are a lot of things that happen in the movie that would be interesting. Training, crazy 88, kitchen fight scene, chase scenes.

Hyrule RPG. Let's venture away from the Link/Zelda cycle and expand on the world. Have it be a mix of Skyrim open-world, Monster Hunter combat system and item upgrading and art design of Zelda (and a dash of Monster Hunter because its fucking amazing). Cool hand crafted dungeons and meaningful items and some shit amazing graphics on Wii U.

Colony Wars 4 because there's no space shooters on consoles, the void must be filled. This series was a perfect middleground between hardcore combat-sims and arcadey shooters. Maybe there's an audience out there for it, and I don't think it would be THAT costly to test the waters. With levels that are just big open space* and ships instead of people with complex animations, it seems to me the budget doesn't have to be that high, there's good looking stuff on PC by smaller teams.

Warhawk was a big success, Twisted Metal looks like it will be fantastic (hopefully it sells), now go for the fucking PS1-revival hat trick

*actually I want the planet surface levels back too, doesn't have to be anything fancy though

Pokemon MMO.

Of course it'll never happen but just imagine how awesome it would be to see wild pokemon running around in real time and team rocket peeps swooping in every once and a while. You could start your own gym and whatnot.

It would definitely be bigger than what Dragon Quest X ends up being, definitely. I'd like to see how it turned out.

That would be very interesting and I love Monster Hunter as well. Hell it would make for an awesome colab between Nintendo and Capcom to make that.

That would be too cool. When you start a Gym you would be the gym leader. Then you could recruit other players to be the people chilling the gym. It would be similar to a clan.

A console sequel to Star Fox 64.

Yeah, basically Star Fox 64 2

Mass Effect Space Sim. Best of both worlds, awesome space exploration and combat with a touch of ME game play and off ship stuff. It's the perfect universe and great setting for a space opera. Here's a short bullet point outline I made the other day. Google doc for ME Space Sim

A Scry-ed HD 2D fighter. They character design and moves would perfectly transition into a fighting game. It's been a wet dream of mine sense I first saw the anime. The guilty gear developers would be best!

Space Channel 5 with Motion Control (/w gun attachment) support. Get in on the fitness gaming market, but make it a real game that does it. Motion control gun (Up, Down, Left, Right, Shoot, Shoot, Shoot).

Shining Force 3 remake. The game is still the best in strategy rpg gaming. Add motion control support for moving along the map, like a pointer to where you want to walk, allow you to select from the laundry list of inventory by point clicking. When in town walking around. Maybe navigate like normal with the navi controller, but use the move to change the camera angle; however, as soon as a menu appears it's point clicking. :-)

Powerstone 3. The ultimate party game. Unlock-able content (skins for characters from other Capcom series maybe. With online play, this game would be amazing! Maybe make a 16 player chaos mode as well. :-P

I know some will hate these ideas, but I think it'd really enhance some of my favorite games.

The World Ends With You 2 should I say The World Ends With U. A sequel of TWEWY for the 3DS or Wii U should be made. The game didn't sell amazingly well, but it was a pretty high success for a new brand. A lot of things came together with this title: The music, the fights, the story, the charakters, the art style. I would really like to play another story about Neku Sakauraba and friends. I want a bigger city, more brands, more pins and, of course, more types of food. :P

son of a bitch, I came in here to suggest the exact same thing after playing Streets of Rage recently

Panzer Dragoon MMO.

Finding Dragoon eggs, raising them PSO MAG style, fly them around the work and kill stuff. Massive MMO sky battles.

DO IT!

Shenmue HD. Release an HD version of the 1st two games on XBLA/PSN/Steam.

If they bomb then Shemue can rest in peace, if they sell then it can be used as the wake up call to make the mythological Shenmue III.

Side scrolling action RPG ala Guardian Heroes but with a different art-style and lovingly animated pixel art a notch above Metal Slug...but I need to fucking see those pixels. None of this fucking 2D vector bullshit.

Pokemon MMO.

*cough*

ss-pet-01.jpg

Okay, so maybe it's not exactly what you're looking for, but it'll be pretty damn close...

Before Crisis Final Fantasy VII remake for Vita.

Make it in 2D "high resolution" sprites with the art style of the original. The mobile version never came to the west, although it was originally announced for it at one point. A Vita remake would be the perfect way to finally do so.

New Star Fox game that INCLUDES Star Fox 64 HD (because it is a perfect game). I want STUPID amazing graphics for the series. Oh, and Fox and his buddies need to look hyper real...like the puppets in the Super NES box :P

I have a litany of sequels and "spirit-of" pseudo-sequels I could share that need made so their developer's mastery of game design have a chance to shine. Unfortunately, the recognition of that genius, a paying fanbase of these games that do appreciate it, or people willing to experiment with them are shrinking. It would have to be a near-charity effort.

WoW2: Titan's the casual-focused MMO, that's cool. This comes out as well and would be back to the search for balance that categorized Vanilla and BC, with plenty of distant mountains, epic dungeons, honest camaraderie, and earned glory beckoning on the horizon. One also filled with neat low-effort things to collect for the joy of having them, not busy work to justify the subscription or out of boredom.

Ultima Online Pre-Trammel: EvE's not really my speed, yet I hunger for another PvP MMO, and I've heard so much greatness about this. I'd love to live by my wits again in an MMO once more.

Sega giving Reiko Kodama $3.5m+ to make whatever the fuck she wants.

Suikoden VI with Yoshitaka Murayama on board because the world needs it.

^^^ This too. Falcom's eating their lunch on this front, so it's kinda the same, I guess.

Streets of Rage (damn you OP)

Not open world though. A straight beat 'em up, kinda like the Bouncer, but good. There's nothing like it going around right now, and if done well it's the perfect IP to use to bring this genre back.

It's old enough for most younger gamers to think it's a new IP, but it will still wrangle in older gamers who miss the IP.

Pokemon RPG on home consoles

Does this really need an explanation?

Maximo 3

You can never have too many good platformers, and Maximo 3 on next gen consoles with a proper save system and full camera controls would make me shit a chicken and buy any next gen console on day one.

Virtua Cop 4

It's time Sega. It's time.

It's been said before, but I would kill for a big open world cyberpunk game. Just give me a blade runner style noir future city to explore and have me hunting renegade cyborgs or something. Crackdown gave me a small taste of what sci-fi could be like in an open world setting, and now I want the real deal. Enough modern cities, give me this!

A Predator game made in the style of Gears of War, offering 7 player co-op story mode where you get to choose which character you wish to play as. It's 7 players because you have to unlock Anna by completing story mode. But first...

Story mode [offline or co-op]: You see the events of the film through the eyes of each of the lead characters, and you have to play through in order of those who die earliest. I.e. you start out as Hawkins - with all the awful jokes and everything - and play up until the point you die, which is fairly early on into the piece. This will then unlock the next character Blane, complete with minigun and tobacco chewing/spitting, and his story 'ends' when he gets put down after the sonbitch digs in deeper than an Alabama tick. Cue sad military horn anthem. This will then unlock Mac, etc etc, until you get to see the 'true ending' with Dutch. Along the way, a real highlight is playing as Dillon and having your limbs slowly removed as you fire desperately at nothing in particular before getting impaled. Also, Billy would have a great sacrificial, badarse ending complete with battlecry and machete chest slash.

Somethin' out there. And it ain't no man. And don't even mention the awful Samurai Showdown equivalent in Predators because that movie was never made, ok?

Extended [Anna] story mode:

Once you've finished the game with Dutch, you can get to experience an 'Overtime' mode by playing as Anna, whose story begins shortly before the events of the film, and take you right through to the end where you get on da chopper. Her sequence ends with the chopper returning to pick up Dutch, who by this time is all covered in ash from the nuke. Anna will have the most dialogue options in the game, but that really isn't saying much.

But that's not all...finishing the Anna mode unlocks...

Super secret Predator story mode:

Play through the whole story from the point of view of the titular character. Sure, you die at the end, but do so by setting the nuke for detonation and with a menacing, badarse hahahAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

~~

Online adversarial mode:

Online versus mode would be 7 on 7 with the Rescue Team (not assassins) taking on the Mercenaries, those generic enemies in the film prior to the Predator's introduction. Why 7 on 7? Because one person has to play as Anna, trying to avoid everything and get to the extraction point completely unarmed - the objective for both sides is to grab Anna either to rescue or to keep her.

But...BUT:

The other lucky person plays as the Predator, whose aim is to stir shit up by appearing midway through the battle and taking out as many victims as he can. Once the Predator enters the fray, the 7 v 7 match turns into all-out survival and players have to decide whether to keep going with their petty adversarial differences, or to team up against the common enemy. Bonus points for killing the Predator AND rescuing/securing Anna.

~

Best of all though, you get to hear the great nanaNANANA, nanaNANA music on the loading screens.

A real Pokemon console game because its what I always wanted.

Have Pokemon trading/battling between the portable and the console versions.

PLus Nintendo can make extra money having exclusive Pokemon between 4 versions instead of just 2.

so 2 console versions and normal 2 handheld versions.

Sandbox Streets of Rage? I'll have to say I disagree with this.

1) This is Sega.

2) I've never been a fan of franchises switching genres. What would be the point of calling it SoR if it's something completely different from what it's fans know it as? I'm not against the idea of a SoR "like" title being sandbox, but if I am going to play a true SoR game, I want it to play similar to how I remember it, while being the same genre I remember it, but with a few new bells and whistles.

PSO is NOT a replacement for Phantasy Star.

What I would like to see is an HD, hand drawn Megaman 11.

Maybe a Phantasy Star V...but again...Sega (bring back as many of the original developers as possible).

Einhander 2. Just give us more of the same but in HD and a higher poly count.

Star Fox 64-2
. Independant L/R barrel roll. "B" to shoot. NO ON FOOT MISSIONS! NOBODY IN THE LYLAT SOLAR SYSTEM HAS A LOWER HALF, UNDERSTOOD!?

Somebody really needs to make a new Blaster Master as well. Probably 2.5D.

And a ton more.

Baten Kaitos 3. First game was great; second game was fucking incredible and one of the best JRPG experiences I've ever had. The world is so unique and beautiful, and I want to see how they continue with it.

Drakengard 3. One of the dearest series to my heart. I just loved Cavia's twisted mess of characters and world. But they are no more :(

The Last Remnant 2. One of the most fun turn-based battle systems (along with Baten Kaitos Origins) with a ton of variety. I'd like to see it with a bigger sense of scale, like more unions, therefore more party members. Also, the idea of Remnants is cool but so underutilized. I'd like to see a bit more on them. I like having a ton of party members in one screen, and the way TLR handled it is great. I need more!

Lost Odyssey 2. Thoroughly enjoyed LO and would like to see how they'd handle a sequel, considering how the game ended.

Left 4 Dead 3. I actually don't know how much more can be improved in the series other than more campaigns, but I bet Valve will know. So it will probably about 10+ years for this to happen :(

Castlevania: Back to it's Roots

Go old school and take Castlevania back to it's roots. Make a 2d game that's level based ala Castlevania I/III/IV. I'd personally prefer something closer to Castlevania III, but I'd take what I can get.

I'd love for a nice 2d old school version on the 3DS where we get 3d effect in all of the parallax scrolling going on in the background. Would work perfectly to because the best 3D on the 3DS is all stuff going into the screen verses trying to pop stuff out at us, and the backgrounds would of course be going into the screen away from us.

I also think going back to it's roots would keep the Castlevania vibe, but it would still give it a break from the Metroidvania style that some at Konami think Iga sort of rode into the ground.

Hell they could do a multiplatform version where they do a 3ds and a Vita version each with slightly different strengths IE the Vita could get higher resolution graphics, and the 3ds could get the parallax 3d effect. Then Konami could make money back on the project from both systems.

Warhammer40K: Imperial Guard first-person shooter.

Massive, planetary-scale battles, lots of squad-based interaction, would work really well in multiplayer. I love the itty-bitty squishy humans rushing en masse for the Imperium of Man. Space Marines are boring.

Bonus points: Being able to play as a Commissar and a normal Trooper in the singleplayer.

Conker 2 or Banjo-Threeie

So Rare can make great games again, lots of money and reclaim the gaming developer's throne and we don't have Eurogamer articles and the entire gaming community talking about how Rare is dead

Disgaea 5 for Vita.

Also, let me cross Overworlds with playable chapters from ever main character from 1-4. That means full content for every overlord/human/Val, and their own unique storyline (maybe something like sequels to each game). Doesn't have to be much. Maybe 15 hours of content per storyline, so Laharl gets 15, etc, etc.

Or just make Disgaea 5 with a new cast. Either way ya know.

Also, while I'm at it, a Commando game done in the style of GTA Vice City.

It could even be a direct reworking of the original engine: the more previous-gen the better. Add in a deer-feeding minigame at the start, as well as ice-cream getting shoved in the face of your daughter (Alyssa Milano).

Car chases, shopping mall shootouts and swinging around, raiding a gun store, bazookas fired backwards, flying the sea-plane, the mansion attack, and then knife fight with Bennett at the end. I don't think I've ever seen a movie so perfectly suited to conversion across to the video game medium. Rockstar, PLEASE MAKE THIS GAME.
