My first ever game of BTB Heavies.

Gonna go cry in the corner, brb.

I did this earlier today. It helped that it was a map I'd played a game on before, so I knew how to approach it.

Step 1, cower in a corner until the cacophony of vehicular explosions has subsided.

Step 2, head out on foot around the perimeter of the map and work on tagging people wandering through the killing fields (which comprise 90% of the map).

Step 3, repeat steps 1 & 2.

Great update. Flat confirmations of things that delighted me. Upgrades to theater and Forge. No bloom (in the Reach sense). Some number of map remakes are coming (this bummed me a bit). BR is hitscan (OMG). Huge vehicle-like things. The Covenant returns in some capacity; a no-brainer but nice to have out there. Assassinations are back, which I'm glad to hear about; not a fan in MP but I love'em in the other modes. Soothing cooing noises about color blind folks like me. Other bits and doo dads galore. I am feasting.

Perhaps most importantly, a further cementing of the Tashi Ceiling into the Halo lexicon.

Feels good to have reached this phase of the cycle. I'm excited - very excited - for Halo again. It's been a while.

What if the progression system (levels and unlocks) are tiered and tied to matchmaking? Like, lets say you get to level 25, you unlock a weapon upgrade. But from then on in, you never play against people lower than level 25. And if you play in a playlist where you're lower than a 25, you lose that upgrade.

Ooooh, very nice update.

Wasn't expecting anything new, but the tiny clarifications and hints *ack*Guardian*hrrrrm* were real nice. They just gotsta!

That could work... but then it would still have the fact that everyone would have different inherent abilities which could change things negatively? I'm open to it but still would be apprehensive.

Fuck upgrades. If there is any weapon progression like that I'm not picking the game up.

I just really hope there's no retarded carrot on a stick level up progression for ANY gameplay altering things in multiplayer. For all the hate I pile on Reach at least it kept all that to aesthetics.

But if it's auxiliary stuff like... Eh, I dunno, would you all consider an upgraded scope "attachment" (2x->3x) fair after Reach? I really don't know what to think, but Tashi's idea is cool.

Nope.

My relationship has lasted this long with Halo and its multiplayer because of the equality on spawn.

Yeah... I can't imagine any sort of customization I would like. It sounds cliche, but: level playing field or bust.

Well if they'd be going with that kind of progression system (which I don't believe they've said is the case) I think it would just make it confusing for the casual player who jumps in and expects to have everything they've unlocked always available. On top of that, you'd be splitting your potential pool of matches the higher your level, which may not be a bad thing, mind you, but I think 343i wouldn't be so keen on limiting the pool of matches as you'd level.

Also, I think you'd find higher level people quitting if they got into a match against lower level players if they weren't allowed to use their unlocks.

(Complete tangent, but after just checking my control panel, I realized my gaf account got approved on 11/23/2009. I planned to start getting into halogaf for Reach, but I never got into Reach, and never starting posting. Feels good to be excited about Halo again!)

You preach it Devo. Screw upgrading weapons and shit. I'm already not a fan of "perks". Course I'm going to wait and see how whatever 343 is going to call them are handled in game before I jump off the bandwagon. Course with gold running out in may I doubt anything MP is going to really bother me much with H4. lol

Pretty much. Even Reach's system pissed me off honestly. I'm just not a fan of rock, paper, scissors in my FPS and Halo does this great. If it turned into that though, I'd just be upset.

You will have equality of spawn though. Everyone in your level range will have the same upgrades.

Even level bracket stuff sounds dumb sorry.

Because Trueskill is so good at only matching people against you in the same skill range.

And if you play in a playlist where you're lower than a 25, you lose that upgrade.

Same could be done if you get matched against people below 25.

I dunno. This is one of the better possibilities that I've seen thrown around. I still don't like it, though. Especially if everyone has different armor upgrades. If that happens, there needs to be some very clear visual indications of what you're going up against. But still, sounds messy as hell.

Halo gets a new developer who starts doing things that have never been done by the previous developer: conceptualizing multiplayer as a separate competitive component, making maps that are designed to be played in a shooter, giving players the ability to move - obviously, the most natural thing to suggest, is that a grind-based progression system in which lower level players receive limited mechanics in their game is added.

That sounds pretty pointless. Why bother having one kind of Halo 4 for low levels, and another kind of Halo 4 for high levels?

That gets to the heart of it, for me. I can see how you could make progression work, but it usually adds up to very little gain for a lot more work (in matchmaking, etc.)

Like others, I'm holding my judgement until we actually hear more.

I just thought of this off the top of my head guys, give me a break lol

I thought it was pretty good for off-the-cuff. :)

Yeah I hear ya, I'm just taking your example at face value because any kind of upgrade system like that in FPS MP has nearly universally turned me off.

The only exception ever was TF2, but that was an extreme specialty case, as I started playing it before all the secondary weapons were introduced. Then they tied them to easily obtainable achievements, and then they tied them to a random weekly drop rate. I guess the gradual introductions of them eased me into it, and I was already deep into the rabbit hole of that game. I imagine if I were stepping into TF2 fresh as it is today I would hate it.

BR is hitscan in Halo 4? Yeah, sounds like I'm done with Halo multiplayer. There has been absolutely nothing to convince me that this isn't going to be Halo 2: The 2ening for multi. I think I'll stick to Campaign and FF.

Too bad you guys didn't want to learn how to lead or pace your shots :( Franchise ruined, insane conclusions jumped to, mission accomplished.

Delicious. I love twitter anger.

I think we should all worry about things we don't know yet until they have time in their schedule for a beta or demo.

Hope you're kidding... I don't want them to pander but at the same time there's nothing so far that should convince you it will be.

Hitscan simply works best.

Dude, no one here wanted hitscan on BR or a more Halo 2-like multiplayer. Bloom was great, you actually had to THINK in battles. Inconsistent leading was great, what is this, 1999? We don't need no archaic hitscan. Now everything will just be point and spam and win.

I think that's the reason I'm most excited if it is similar to H2.
