XSEED announces Unchained Blades for 3DS/PSP (eShop/PSN only)

Glad they decided to release it with an english dub rather than cheaping out and subbing only. Plus ya got troy baker.

Xseed ya done good.

are you calling troy baker an intern

They probably blew the whole localization budget on Baker and had to get the interns to do the rest. You can really hear the professionalism in that girl whose voice and accent changes three times in a single line of dialogue.

Is there any confirmation this is DD on the 3DS as well? I supposed it was retail on the 3DS and DD on the PSP.

sarcasm?

From Youtube video tagline:

XSEED Games is releasing Unchained Blades for PSP (playable on Vita, too) and 3DS (via eShop)

It's a good thing actually; it won't just get a rare item to purchase at least

This. Oh well, there are plenty of other games to play.

I guess there are only two of us who care.
:(

The thing that hurts me the most about this is the future of Trails localization.
I know I have no right to feel this way, but I really feel betrayed by XSeed and it hurts. A lot. I know how dumb that is and how it's just my own sense of entitlement or whatever. But I can't help it. Every time I see this thread, my heart breaks.

And with the recent rumours about the PS4. I get the sense that I'm going to be pushed out of gaming before I'm ready to go. It's very hard for me considering how I grew up. I'm being stupid and selfish and I hate myself for feeling this way, but... I'm very frustrated.

If anything it sounds like whatever they are recording on is not of great quality. Certainly sounded like Troy Baker but there was something weird about it I can't really explain not being some sort of audio tech guy.

yup, i had more problems with audio quality than who was doing the voice acting to be honest.
But anyway, I didn't even know this game had a story but I think the gameplay mechanics and visually looks pretty interesting, maybe one of the more interesting dungeon crawlers released recently.

Voice Direction is just as important as the skill of the voice actors themselves. If the direction is shit, then they could have had Mark Hamil and Patrick Stuart and it still would probably sound like shit.

Xseed released Corpse Party on PSN in Europe so I don't think people in Europe will have any problem getting it.

So then we should give all of the credit to voice directors when it turns out well, too, I guess.

But the person I quoted clearly wasn't referring to the voice director as an intern. I would be surprised if that was done in-house at XSEED anyway.

Hadn't heard anything about this game, but wow at that trailer. Moving on up as one of my most anticipated titles this year now tbh. And Troy <3 <3

It's obvious that it was either digital or nothing, so I'm glad they are at least recognizing that they are better off going digital for some of these games.

This one looks like a lot of fun, so I'm glad we are getting it.

Does anyone know if they are considering a EU release?

They've published games themselves (DD only) on PSN before..

The voice acting in that trailer was cringeworthy lol. Maybe it'll sound better as in game dialogue.

:)

question: is any kind of voice localization, no matter how crappy, better than none? i'd say no. & i'd say the voice work in the trailer for this game proves that...

I’ll admit, the whole Trails in the Sky: SC fiasco has left a bitter taste in my mouth. And that this game is DL only, makes me even more hesitant.

But will wait and see how good the game is (through word of mouth) before I decide. If it is great, then I’ll be there.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Well, according to this, there's at least some amount of hope in the future for Trails...

Basically an interview about where XSEED's headed.

Indeed. Patrick Stewart's monologues in Castlevania: Lord of Shadow were utterly cringeworthy. Though, that was mainly due to the horrific writing of Kojima. :p

Digital even for 3DS? That's pretty awesome, and I hope more developers start to release their games like this (but with a retail option too).

I can’t read it, unfortunately. I’m at work and it’s blocked. But I’ll take a look at it when I get home.

Would you be able to summarize in how it mentions Trails future?

MAC: If this takes off successfully, where might you aim next? Might we see more of the Legend of Heroes series on Steam? You're not going to talk Falcom into going back to PC development, are you?

KB: If this takes off and we feel confident about taking on larger projects where we oversee the localization programming, then The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky would be the next logical step as we already have the English script from the PSP release, just like we did with Ys: The Oath in Felghana. If things work out as we hope they will, perhaps Steam will become the ideal platform on which to try to continue the Trails in the Sky series.

As for luring Falcom back to PC development, that is something that they will have to decide on their own based on the sales numbers, but my personal guess is that they would love to come back to PC development if they see a viable market for it.

That, I imagine.

It basically says that if the Ys games they're publishing do well on Steam, the next logical step is to put Trails in the Sky on Steam, and that could be how they choose to continue the series.

So for those hoping to play it on PSP or Vita... no news on that front, but at least there very well may be some possibility of getting the rest of the series.

Glad to see this officially announced. I'm thinking that I am going to want the 3DS version just to have a full size RPG on it at all times.
