Halo |OT3| Remember Reach?

I have to agree with Over, Squid, I don't think the weapon was needed from a design point of view, but it was pretty powerfull, and amazingly annoying to go up against.

Being annoying is its main feature. They're strapped to the bottom of every drop ship in Firefight, one of the inexplicable design decisions I've ever seen.

While filling in the same category as the Brute Shot in MP, I found that gun way more fun and funtcional in Halo 3 than the Concussion Rifle.

The Arsenal of Halo 4

RAILGUN
DESIGNATION: Asymmetric Recoilless Carbine-920
MANUFACTURER: Acheron Security
The ARC-920 Railgun is a compact-channel linear accelerator that fires a high-explosive round at incredible speed, delivering both kinetic and explosive force to both hard and soft targets alike.

Just a note for those interested, Acheron's similar to the River Styx in that it was one of five rivers in Hades, known as the River of Pain. Something tells me this thing's going to be the "holy shit they made a new weapon AND IT'S BOTH FUN AND EFFECTIVE AND PROPERLY WORKS IN THE SANDBOX" gun of Halo 4 similar to how the Pro Pipe is for Reach.

Yeah, those dropships are damn annoying, I understand that the role of that gun was to suppress, but in a battle you can be left to frustratingly hide for a good amount of time, just so you dont get pegged by them.

Also loved how the brute shot gave you a slight edge in its use of melee.

Why is the article called "The Arsenal Of Halo 4" when it has 5 weapons, and not even all the UNSC ones.
Sillyness.

Weapon looks interesting, charge build up fire like a Mac Cannon? Long cool down? Reloads after each shot? 2x zoom?

I see what you did there.

Holy crap, I completely forgot about the Spiker when I said that. lol

Useless? Hmm, not the word I'd use to describe it. It's very useful against certain vehicles and on Countdown that thing can destroy people. It's a really annoying weapon to fight against, though. It just throws your aim off and then there's that stupid filter on your screen caused by the explosions.

Yeah, I guess useless is the wrong word to use. It was such a poor replacement for the Brute Shot and as mentioned, extremely annoying.

And perhaps no scope, which was one of the Spartan Laser's big flaws. Doesn't look like there is one on the rail gun, so its not going to be as accurate over super long range.
I wonder if it will have a scope at all or one that's similar to what the pistol uses. I can't wait to hear what it sounds like.

Good riddance to the Concussion Rifle. I've never seen a more useless weapon in a Halo game, and that includes the H2 Needler. For clarification, I mean useless in multiplayer, because Reach's AI are somehow snipers with that godforsaken thing. bleh

I don't understand this opinion of the weapon at all. I understand not really liking the weapon, but it's quite good.

It's unfortunate they've went away from momentum and weapon based damage on weapons like the H2 Brute Shot.

I guess that's what we should expect when it's just two hits to kill, so awful...

lol, I was hoping we'd finally know what that pistol grenade thing was from the teaser.

I don't see anything on the Railgun that could be construed as a scope.

I'll be kind of sad if the Concussion Rifle is gone. I actually really liked how it was used in Reach, aside from the AI's insane ability to use it. The Brute shot is a much more interesting weapon, but I never really used it like I do the Concussion Rifle. Hopefully at least one of the two returns.

Can we see the Needler soon plz? I need to know the best weapon is going to turn out alright.

Betting that this replaces the Spartan Laser.
Huh. As I said in my writeup, I only saw the icon in my HUD during the ordnance drop setup - I never actually found the gun after it appeared. I suppose it's possible that I mistook the thumbnail of this big square-ish gun for the more familiar Spartan Laser.

I wish I'd actually found the thing I dropped. :(

If the Railgun really is supposed to be a portable MAC/Gauss Cannon... I hope it's shots bounce. It'd be a cool way to separate it from the Laser or Grenade Launcher or whatever category it fits in.

Except that it doesn't. Wu mentioned in his writeup that he saw a Spartan Laser in a weapon drop.
Yeah... maybe. :( (I'm no longer sure.)

?

I never posted on HBO until I had been posting here for a while. Why did you think I identify with HBO?
lol - because you're often at odds with the 'competitive' players here; obviously, that means you belong at HBO, where the casuals all hang out with their ARs and their stupid gametypes.

Wait, Halo 4 is being released on the same day as the presidential election?
Yep. It's already been the butt of several webcomic jokes, and at least one serious article. (Serious might be the wrong word.)

They say you lose two things when you get older: Your memory and...uh...
It's not really a memory loss thing. As I said, I'm wondering if I mistook the small thumbnail of the railgun for the similarly-blocky spartan laser... I simply don't know any more. (It was something I looked at for a few seconds, in the middle of a battle. I THOUGHT I knew what I was looking at... until someone showed me an image that credibly makes me doubt my assumption.)
