Hey, anime doesn't always have an-anti American bias! Sometimes you get perfectly fair and balanced representations of them, like in...

Well, I can't actually recall any particular example, but I am certain that it's happened before. Perhaps someone else can provide an example.

Fate/Zero Episode 18

Man the tropical scenery was a nice change of pace this episode. Very very beautiful scenes and vistas. Anyhow, for a flasback episode I really enjoyed this besides the fact that Kiritsugu is my favorite character in F/Z. The first half was pretty relaxing and I think it did it nice job introducing his childhood life. We got a good feel for his life and the people around him (Shirley, his father, the church, etc.) and we see him in a totally different light than how he is in the rest of the show.

Then things begin to get dark.
Of course the events that follow are all due to his father's research. One thing I'm not sure how to feel about is Kiritsugu's justification for killing his father. Even Natalia pointed that out which made it all the more interesting to me. Did he even have a strong relationship with his father? Or does his viewpoint of justice and saving people really do overpower how he feels about everything else, even if family is involved? Just man... that resolve to kill your father just like that. Crazy.

In any case, the seeds have been sown that begin Kiritsugu's path of a Mage Killer. Even though I'm not normally a fan of flashback episodes that explain a character's past I'm really interested to see Kiritsugu's life as the infamous mage killer and I'm looking forward to see his relationship with Natalia since she apparently becomes his mentor (as hinted at in an earlier episode too).

All in all, really great episode and cannot wait for next week.

The Light of El Cantare
I was under the notion that this was more attributed to the fact that he's a CIA agent than him being an American.

It could be, but I'm not seriously offended anyway, hah. I just like drawing attention to the trope sometimes.

Possibly in a series that takes place entirely in America like Heroman and, uhh......I'm stumped too.

At least our women are always buxom blondes!

...and even then they're still villains sometimes.

I don't think it was about justice and saving people so much as
his dad not giving a single fuck about Shirley and Kiritsugu wanting revenge.

No. That's not exactly it.
It wasn't about revenge for Kiritsugu. It was definitely about justice. This episode is about the foundation of Kiritsugu's logic that if he were to take action when it was needed, regardless of how cold-blooded or unfair it is, he can save lives. He hesitated with Shirley, even though he had the chance. He will never hesitate again. The means justify the ends.

Kiritsugu starting his badassery from an early age it seems.

Also I guess
Tsukihime
is required reading to understand the show now? :p

I didn't see it that way before, but when you put it like that I can see the parallels between
the scene where Shirley loses it and his confrontation with his father.
Neat. I still think
the dad killing Kiritsugu's waifu and confirming all of the shit-talking that the village has been doing factored into it, though.
It'd be weird if it didn't.

Sure.
He's a kid and he's angry at his father was doing illegal things which got other people hurt, and he got even angrier when he confronted him about it and his father seemed to not think it was a big deal. He was definitely really upset about it, but I don't think his actual determination to do what he did stemmed from that.

Kiritsugu is a rational and logical person who seems to rarely give in to raw emotion. He has those emotions, and I'm sure they define who he is inside, but he seems to try his best to disconnect emotions from his actual actions.

I think we also see a shade of that when Kiritsugu explained logically why he felt he had to do it himself. Did he want to do it himself? Probably, but that would be his emotional side. He justifies it using his rational side, and that was the mindset he approached it. Whether he is lying to himself is another debate.

So how long is she gonna stay with her high school buddies? I want her to start wearing that hat you see in the OP

They seem to pay attention to some details like the hair thing which surprised me. I was wondering how they were controlling their movements in space. Do their suits have things that blow air and push them around?

Yes, I'm pretty sure their suits have little thrusters on them. As for actual Piratin', you'll start getting all the good stuff after episode five, when the first arc finishes.

Why does Upotte!! have an elf chick? I am so confused.
Didn't you know all Finnish people are insane and magical elves? It is the only explanation...

Hey, the poor man didn't kill her directly. She just took the bottle from the laboratory without him knowing it, and that is why he asked Kiritsugu if he was the one who walked into the laboratory... he didn't give a shit after that, though.

Damn Eru sucks. Being British is suffering.

More of the same, really.

Holy shit. What a mind blowing episode, it really had something for everyone. They certainly meandered around a bit earlier on, but this has developed into a surprisingly great series.

Really, I should never had had my doubts. Of course, others have been gunning for this series all along.

Truly the show of the season!

Yep, the remembrance of Shirley's asking what type of man did he wanted to be as a grown-up when he shoot his father was pretty telling of that... he wanted to be a man of justice, of course!

You know, the worst thing about this weeks episode of Upotte is that I was already familiar with all the gun facts from this weeks episode. I learned about water-skiming from Goglo 13 and fanning from MGS3. Japan has taught me a lot.

I've been waiting for this episode~ I'm impressed though, they went through with SAKO and her
gun oil covered fingers
. So exciting, so awesome. I can't wait for next week for the conclusion of the arc~ also,
AUG is better with short hair
.

Oh, and for those of you still wondering why 16 is such a dick to Elle, this episode spells it out pretty clearly. If you don't get it now, I don't know what to do for you...
