Rumor: Wii U final specs

The Wii U is Nappa, the 360 is Picollo in the Saiyan saga. Wii U has more raw power, but is not so quick-witted, so it gets slapped around a bit early on. In the end, brute force wins out, and the 360 will die first.

Haha, the Xbox and Playstation brand themselves are pure-blood saiyan so being behind right now means nothing, because at the launch of the next-box and playstation 4 they will both be saying something my good friend Vegeta once said:

Are you ready now to witness a power not seen for thousands of years?

USB HDD is nice, but having something dangling off my console isn't great. at least it has rear USB slots right?

shame they dont support SDXC, but I suppose they figure most people would just buy a cheap HDD if they want more than 32GB, but prices on SDXC will drop over the next few years and some people would appreciate the more discrete use of SD cards.

It's a spec thread. With specs. If you don't like it, leave.

They better replace the Wii U after 4-5 years....

I think we're looking at a 5-6 year cycle here, because I'm fairly confident Nintendo wants to wedge itself halfway between Sony//MS console releases.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
The only thing I don't get is the CPU, three cores? Since when is that a thing.

Not really, but I've made a point to not bother trying to predict the success and failures of Nintendo because I simply cant. The company and their strategy, and the success of said strategy, is too unpredictable.

My point was simply that number crunching does not push consoles into mass market success. Tech heads would like to think it does, but it doesn't. Such is life.

I have a bad feeling about it. I was very big on the prospect of the Wii and thought it would do well, this one doesn't fill me with the same vibes. It will find a market, but it might not a huge one by Wii's standards.
Launching out on its own with no official sign of rival companies adds an extra touch of mystery.

Then they should stop calling it the Arcade model. XBLA games are capped at 2GB anyways. Any cross-platform game that's on XBLA won't be bigger than 2GB.

We need more space, but I'm fairly sure they've done the market research here and 8GB will be enough for a notable portion of owners. It doesn't make sense to burn money providing space that a significant portion of your users will never use, especially when the power users know how to upgrade anyway and it's flash memory.
I had this nice big reply but screw it. It probably is enough for casuals. Not enough for me though. I'll buy it when they release a better version.

Internal memory sounds like a good amount; am all for BYOM (bring your own memory).

You may be all for it but this basically cancels out any of the top end next gen games from being ported down. And who would want something watered down for WiiU anyways?

I have another post quoted about Nintendo not being a part of this arms race comparison/competition for powerful supremacy: Of course they can be included since some in this thread have already called this a next gen platform. It's no more next gen than Wii was when it debuted when PS3 and 360 were proper next gen platforms.

People can call WiiU all they want and they're not in direct competition of whatever but if you expect all the great 3rd party games to magically appear on WiiU then these specs should worry you. Nintendo games are all the WiiU will be bought for. Just like the Wii and GC (for me at least).

The positive is seeing Nintendo games in HD but that novelty only carries me so far. It's bleak but luckily for them, their demo will buy this. I'm getting more eager to see the Sony and MSFT platforms now since we need proper next gen power. Not just another gimmick control.

If these specs are correct this will basically put it in line (generally) with current gen consoles and then when PS4/720 come out this thing will be obsolete and get down ports like PS2 was getting current gen sports games for a while.
I honestly didn't believe we'd end up with another Wii after this one died a grizzly death, but it's actually looking likely(of course it depends on how powerful Ms and Sony consoles turn out to be).

Seriously... I'm surprised that it's such a marginal upgrade. That gamepad must cost a leg and an arm.
Wasn't the Wii U thread speculating more toward the 1.5-2GB range for RAM?
Yeah, those were the optimistic guesses(mine too). I honestly expected a 2GB total with 512MB reserved for OS functions, framebuffer and all that other technical jargon. It's pretty disappointing to say the least.

So, they finally increased the amount of 1T-SRAM from 24 MB to 32 MB I guess? The system should still have some if it wants to maintain physical BC with Wii games, so I would guess that Mem1 would be 1T-SRAM (Which is really damn fast still)

This doesn't seem good.

What were people expecting?!

Time and again Nintendo fans seem to be setting themselves up for a fall with all this talk of the WiiU getting 'watered down' ports of PS4/720 games.

Nintendo has a specific hardware strategy and it's worked gangbusters for them. Why change now???!!!!!!!

Not going to bother. Nevermind.

I will say though that between the Wii U not getting a lot of current gen titles and the next gen systems titles not being easily ported to Wii U, Nintendo better come strong and hard.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
you f*******s.
Calm down. Believing rumors (including this) doesn't make you smarter or more sensible than anyone else, to even begin asking for apologies. Saying with 100% confidence they're wrong doesn't either of course, if anyone did that. It's still just a coin toss.

3 x broadway CPU? I don't like my espresso decaffeinated

The Wii should have taught everybody that raw specs will not push consoles out the door, and limitations do not prevent market success. Only a niche group of people give a shit about the raw numbers, and that's how it will always be.

As for DX11, you're not going to see that in on a non-Microsoft licensed API.

sure, but wii had a strong hook. This doesn't.

8GB internal storage with a MAX of 8 plus 32GB is extremely disappointing and archaic from downloadable game perspective. Most smartphones will have 32GB basically from this year on.

efyu_lemonardo

May I have a cookie?
1GB is going to be for the developers, 32MB eRAM; and I guess there will be some for the OS since they have a lot of functions built in

Seems to be legit if even Eaty can vouch for it. And people said all that speculation was crazy!

Since when is that Bane gif bannable? Can someone explain that to me? I always miss such important things

To anyone who's not sure, the 32MB mentioned are either eDRAM or 1TSRAM for better backwards compatibility. If the CPU is indeed based on Broadway then it would make sense to include 1TSRAM in order to have 100% hardware b/c.
The Wii U itself will likely have 1.5 GB of RAM with 0.5 reserved for the OS.
If this information is all true, the CPU is something I'm afraid could make or break this console in the eyes of 3rd party developers...

edit: christ this thread moves fast! 3 pages in the time it took me to write this post!

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
No, there is more RAM than 1GB, just only 1GB for games.

It'd be on par with what we've heard: 1,5 GB RAM, 1GB for games, the rest for OS, probably.
Now, seriously: I remember people saying it would have been much easier porting games from X720/PS4 to Wii U compared to X360/PS3 to Wii...does this hold up?

External hard drives aren't limited, though.

the wiiu uses some kind of bluray technology right? a lot of ps3 games use mandatory installs to compensate the 2x br drive.

will the br drive in wiiu be faster? if not, how will the install process work? is an external hdd with usb 2.0 fast enough to stream the data?

MadOdorMachine

No additional functions
But the Wii was selling awesome back then.

2010 would have been a better time to ride the hype of Wii. The casuals may well have left at this point and the more hardcore gamers are going to be more interested in the more powerful Xbox or Playstation coming out next.

Isn't Broadway (Wii) just an overclocked Gekko (GC) CPU? If this is true, that means they're still using tech from the late 1990's. I don't even know what to say.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
I get the disappointment with the RAM amount, but the internal storage has been widely known for like a year right?

Honestly, with those specs I'll now be incredibly disappointed with a price point higher than $249.
