Bayonetta 2 - WiiU (Director: Yusuke Hashimoto, Pub: Nintendo, Supervision:Kamiya)

I never played Bayonetta, and I'm not sure I'll end up playing 2, but if this is the caliber of game that Nintendo is going after for the WiiU, I might have to actually start paying attention.

It does seem like a 'statement of intent' and I think a pretty good one.
Some consumers will be annoyed/frustrated but for others it'll tip them to maybe picking up a WiiU (hand in hand with other games ofc); overall there won't be what were seeing on Kotaku though (not that it would affect Nintendo!).

We'll see the fruit of their efforts in time I suppose but its exciting just because we didn't really see this activity during the Wii years, its very surprising for Nintendo and kind of calls back to earlier generations and Rare.

Its certainly a game Nintendo needs everyone to know their doing, both gamers and the press.
More important than the game itself in some ways tbh.

I like Opiate's potential future where the WiiU becomes a system for the companies that can't do the NextPS4 route. A little KT, a little Platinum and they're not Japanese but it isn't like THQ will survive till the NextPS4.

Really, this is what the future may hold.

Many have resisted the suggestion that the 8th generation could be another PS2/Gamecube/Xbox stratification because, so the logic goes, the Wii U will still be too far behind the other two consoles for it to still receive a significant number of multiplatform titles. The PS2 was different, they said. It was riding on the success of the PS1.

That is a valid point. But...

... the Wii U, weirdly enough, may be riding on something different - the struggle of publishers and developers to survive the direction this gen has gone. Something similar was theorized about the Wii, and since Nobody Plays Wii Games (tm) a lot of people this gen didn't notice that the Wii did in fact get a lot of formerly midrange games as you would have seen on the Playstation 2. Mostly from Japanese developers. Now we have Wii U, where the looming expense of 8th gen development is just going to make things worse. For all the claims that "it won't really be more expensive." I find that an optimistic expectation.

Wii U could benefit from circumstances forcing another PS2/Gamecube/Xbox scenario. In this case, Wii U plays the PS2 and it does end up getting a lot of multiplatform games combined with a lot of major exclusives aimed at the core audience - mostly Japanese games. The multiplatform games Wii U receives could end up being the Call of Duties - games like that. Games where the graphics and technology where never the selling point this gen, and even on the HD consoles, such things were intentionally sacrificed in the name of gameplay (60fps).

If Nintendo is serious about rebuilding their brand with the core audience, it could turn out the best thing they could possibly do would be to secure the Bayonettas, Monster Hunters, and everything along those lines. These are the games that more and more people in the core gaming world have been dissatisfied with the lack of.

Why is it puzzling? If the only game on WiiU you want is Bayo 2, why would it be puzzling people don't want to buy a console just for it?
Because, first of all, Wii U has another Kamiya-directed game coming, so you'd think Bayonetta fans would at least be a little interested in that. Second, we know fuck all about PS4 or Xbox 720, so deciding that Wii U is the most inferior of the three options (game library-wise) at this point is kinda stupid.

Apparently people can't simply enjoy games. Everyone must pick sides!

"Megatons" like these bring out the worst of NeoGAF. You guys should be ashamed... But experience has told me you think shit like this is acceptable, despite criticizing GameFAQs and /v/ all the time.

Oh, well.

Videogames aren't about fun. They're about winning.

Gosh

On the bright side this thread has almost 3 times as many replies as the Bayonetta 2 Cancelled thread, so at the very least you can say it has regained the interest of consumers :)

...right?

Hahahahaha! Makes alot of this seem like faux outrage.

I have a feeling there are going to be a few more threads like this with next gen looming. I can't even imagine how ugly it's going to get once Sony and Microsoft show their next gen consoles.

It's kind of depressing though. I wish we could be more grown up about it all.

Gaming side is much more interesting with this sort of thing, more chance for meltdowns & Gaf memes to occur, the only people who suffer are the people who take it seriously.

That was basically my point however long ago that the smaller third-parties, especially the Japanese ones, should really go all-in on the Wii U. Even the larger ones should put smaller-budget games on it. It's a survival technique. In which case the Wii U could end up having a really stellar library.

I know this is a terrible thought, but I think the advent of the more powerful consoles will shed far more blood than this generation. With reports that games like Darksiders 2 not even breaking even is not heartening in the least, and what we'll end up with are a few hollywood blockbusters and cheap short games with nothing in between.

Two things

1. If Nintendo is paying for this (which they are) the odds of it coming to another console are pretty much zero

2. People don't have to be happy that a sequel they want is going to be on a 300 dollar console that they other wise might not want at all. Its appropriate to be upset about that.

Of course Ill just keep playing Sigma 2 AKA the best action game this gen

I thought for a bit that perhaps there wasn't enough fire left in the console game to have another cycle of this nonsense. Console industry is ..... lets say its going through a bit of a interesting evolution lately.

I was clearly wrong, there's going to be blood, and lots of it. Just like the old days.

Haha, I like this post. In a weird and twisted way, the anger, hate, and vitriol proves that our industry lives! :p

Why do you think people are doing it as an either/or though? I would imagine that's not the case generally. I don't think it's "I don't want a WiiU because I'm going to get an XB8", I think it's "I don't want a WiiU because I didn't like Wii" or whatever.

There are people who can only have one system, or two in this example, but that's not the majority of GAF. The systems are purchasing decisions in isolation of the other two.

As for 101, I don't know, it's subjective, I hate the way it looks, I'm pretty sure I won't buy it, even owning a WiiU.

This is what could be get me really jazzed about the Wii U. The prospect of it saving survival horror or any other beloved but less financially successful genres. It's tantalizing, but I'm still on waiting and seeing.

Just saw this thread, and wow are the meltdowns GLORIOUS. Nintendo saves a dead franchise and everyone bitches that they didn't put it on some other publisher's console? What?

Meltdowns aren't limited to GAF either:

Wow, those knives are low. XD

So many salty people, yet its just another reason for me to buy a WiiU. I prefer having Bayo2 than no Bayo at all.

Honestly, I don't see the problem. In an age where 99% of third party titles on home consoles are multiplatform, I wouldn't mind seeing a return to exclusives on a larger scale. With 3 HD consoles on the field, the overlap between titles is overwhelming. What's the point (outside of first party games) to buying multiple systems if they all have the same third party titles with varying degrees of quality (and sometimes content)?

Will it last? It's too early to say. They did the same thing with the Wii at one point and we all saw the results of that.

But as for Bayonetta 2... it's obvious Nintendo stepped in to save it from the grave. Better that than no game at all, right?

Aaaw look at the little console that could. Bayo back from the dead with the help of some strategically placed gold coins.

Kudos to Nintendo, congrats to Platinum Games and good for Bayo fans.. although the fandom is divided into some very different (and some of them highly entertaining) groups.

In the meantime I am very perver..eh..interested how the touching works with Bayonetta.

they don't have to be happy but if they're fans of the game they should be happy it exists as opposed to the alternative which was a reality 6 months prior.

Nintendo fanboys: We don't need games like Watch_Dogs, it doesn't even look that good. 3rd party support like that isn't needed for Nintendo to succeed

Nintendo: Look, we got Bayonetta 2.

Nintendo fanboys: OMG MEGATON THE TEARS SO DELICIOUS GOTTA BUY A WII-U BODY IS REGGIE

Who the hell said they don't want Watch Dogs on the Wii U. If you'd been frequenting Wii U threads you would know that Watch Dogs is one of the games people want on Wii U the most.

I'm still only half-way through the thread...

But, and correct me if I'm wrong, Nintendo has apparently rescued a beloved but buried franchise from certain death. That's right?

And certain vocal enthusiasts are bitter towards Nintendo for doing such a thing?

My God, what the Hell do you want?

Nothing like good old fashioned console wars in the morningevening.

If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at Microsoft or Sony...

If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at Sega. It's their fault this happened. They canceled Bayo 2 when it was in pre-production. Nintendo saved it from the brink. I don't think enough people realize this.

I'm just glad it's coming out.

Iwata's the man...that's why Nintendo funded this :)

Kudos to Nintendo for funding it. Sure, I'm disappointed it's Wii U only since I can't be bothered to fork out ~4000 NOK for a Wii U just to play Bayonetta 2, but at least it's better than Bayonetta 2 never happening at all.

You know...Sony or Microsoft could have helped for Bayonetta 2.

Platinum Games Don't sell in their eyes i'd imagine, despite it being a million seller. Nintendo can afford to take this gamble, even if it doesn't pan out they are woo'ing another crowd with this move..

The best part about this news is that this might be a start of things to come for Nintendo.

People complained that Nintendo ignored the 'core' gamers with the Wii.

It's pretty obvious that Nintendo listened and is doing everything it can to satisfy that audience with their new console. This is good news no matter how you try to spin it.

I'd think this could make Wii U a safe haven of sorts. That's why it would be smart for developers to gather up support now so they won't have to break the bank and inevitabley close down if things go poorly on the 720/PS4.

Man I can't stop watching the trailer.

I remember hearing something about co-op or a new playable character back when it was a rumored sega game.

Is that who the other guy is? He definitely appears to be using whatever the sage equivalent of witch time is so I doubt he's just an enemy.

I want more!!!
