If they had shown the prebuilt map without the forge context I dont think a single person would be complaining

a 4 way symmetrical arena style map with no fluff

thats all most of yall wanted, but because its forge, you constantly degrade it
nonsense
I like Forge
The map's aesthetics look bad

There's sense to peoples' critiques, I think. The layout and design of Relay looks potentially awesome, but the fact that it's built using aesthetically monotonous Forge pieces makes it a lot less appealing. Look at that screen grab Kyle posted a few pages back. It looks terrible.

I'm kind of skeptical about Impact. I don't really think Forge needs colorless terrain in addition to colorless building blocks. Some of the better Forge maps in Reach used the terrain to help orient the player and just make the map more visually interesting. I wonder how possible that is with Impact.

Recap? I'm too lazy to look at 6 pages of stuff.
Edit: lol only one page and its a forge map.

Orbital Remake in MM confirmed.

Put them in their own playlist.

I don't want to see a single one outside of a forge specific playlist...ever.

Personally, i'd love to see one Forge Map from each Forge World in normal playlists (i won't touch FW only list). Just one (for each FW), and it (they) must be excellent. Oh and rotate the selection, one at time (well, total of 3) but only for a month or so, and then another 3 maps.

Yup.

But I like the terrain more than forgeworld. It has a nice deep color, and it is contrasted starkly by its skybox filled with stars, asteroids and some nice orange color. It also compliments the UNSC sterile white. Its just the forge pieces are still visually repetitive, sterile and bland.

I think it looks a million times better than Reach with the dynamic lighting and moving skyboxes. But I guess that's not hard to do.

It would have been nice if there was more options for aesthetics. Scuff marks to place on walls, change the material types to steel or metal/adjust color. Place flowers, trees or other decoration items.

I think it's at a pretty good point right now. It just needs a little bit more to be perfect.

I'm fine with it as long as the creations don't become the focus of Halo 4's matchmaking maps.
I agree. Fortunately, there looks to be a nice selection of developer maps this time around.

Put them in their own playlist.

Meh, I don't have a problem with one or two making the cut if they're good enough. I'm speaking of original designs; I'm sure remakes will abound.

I completely get the hesitation from people who aren't fans of Forge. Besides the new lighting system (which looks great), it doesn't look like it offers enough to differentiate one white arena map from another. As a forger I'm hopeful for more, but I understand why some people feel the way they do.

The hell 343? I drew this like 2 years ago:

elite_armor__imperial_ascetic_by_zeev70-d305r76.png

And now you're telling me
Jul's
armor looks like that? You already stole my Storm Rifle and Railgun concepts. ;_;

EDIT: one good thing Forge has offered is the ability to fuck over jetpack users if they try to escape your map or camp places everyone else can't. Just add a Player Trait Zone disabling AA use with 300% gravity and 0% movement/jump height.

Look guys, it was either shadows in Forge or Mark V helmet, you can't have both. Just not enough memory. Maybe the 720 can handle Forge color wheel.

Loved the terminal video and also how the forge map is multiple asteroids with stepping stones but you can also just forget about them if you like and build in space. Asteroid to asteroid sniping will be fun.

Would like to board the flagship and kick shipmasters ass... But that's just me. Haha

Really cool cinematics. Very interesting to see more terminals and whether waypoint will have a secret terminal once every code is acquired, if they plan on doing.

Can I just say your avatar is awesome? Really love the colors going on for that image of Chief from the E3 footage.

In 5 years Forge mode has gained shadows. That's not pretty good, it's pathetic.

You bring up some good points sometimes, but where's your constructive part of the criticism?

Personally, the thing that still scares me about Halo 4 is that there's so much content that I'm worried about how much each thing works on its own. Forge looks fine to me but I'm no expert on the matter, I've only built a couple maps in the past. Multiplayer on the other hand is why most players play Halo. 3 years, engine already at 343i's disposal, yet 5-6 small-midsize mp maps (which is basically what Halo is known for)? Now that is frustrating.

Pertaining to the language talk a couple pages back, wasn't there an explanation early in CE that they started translating the language? And then there was one point in H2 or H3, can't remember, where a prophet was talking in some holo-projector and cortana switched it over to an English translation. The convenant weren't speaking English, it was translated. Probably except for the arbiter.

And the Japanese-type stuff in that terminal sounds dumb.

I think Forge is one of the best things to ever come to Halo. It's now even better. I'm happy.

How many times does it have to be said that H4 plays differently to previous games, and what was reasonably small would now be the size of a hallway closet?

Also, kylej is back? So I guess it wasn't a perma after all.

I was accounting for that already. More specifically, Longbow, Exile, And Meltdown are big maps, no two ways about it. Complex is also pretty damn huge, although that may fall into the "go either way" zone.

Watching games even on Haven seem a little sparse; the combat seems a lot more thinned out from what I've seen.

Yes because that's the only thing they've improved upon.

C'mon...

Usually you are pretty witty about your trolls, but this is just plain silly.

Halo 4: 2 shades of gray: white edition.

just kidding. I'm so pumped for this game. Forge looks sweet. I'm seriously going to try to make a map this time. Although I see some brutal FPS drops.
I can only assume baked lighting, simpler objects smaller Forge spaces, and less requirements to phase objects should help that. How much is the real question.

Looks like I'll miss out on midnight launch festivities, but I couldn't pass this up. Feels good man.

Got it through Tsilon promo codes. Them DLC maps are gonna have to be pretty fukken god to match up to the price of the game.

Karen Travis doing terrible things with the canon? Well, I never...
I'm more than three-quarters of the way into the book and I wholeheartedly disagree with that sentiment. What I love about the book so far is that it really toys with your emotions of whom to root for. Something I never experienced with the books that took place during the Human-Covenant War.

I agree! I haven't read any part where it fucks up with the canon.

I haven't read it myself since I was so let down by Glasslands, so I dunno if there's any validity to that statement, just that I wouldn't be surprised.

What WOULD you guys consider to be messing up canon?

Unless TTW pulls a Glasslands for the last fourth of the book, TTW is such an improvement over its predecessor. It's been a page-turner for me, something I had trouble saying about Glasslands,

But visually forge is going to suffer from the same bland repetition it seems.

Bingo. The new magnets and lockign features are pretty neat, although not the major changes some might have been hoping for.

The generic and grey forge pieces are the most disappointing things. Sure, the lighting looks better but it appears possible that 4's forge will suffer from similar problems that Reach's did. Which is hugely disappointing that lessons have not been learnt.

Really hoping this 3rd environment is a nice visual contrast and the palette isn't grey!
