Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Watched the trailer this morning and thought it was excellent. Fits with the holistic focus on Chief as a human with a childhood and everything. Loved the scene with Chief face to face with the antagonist, helpless; hugely reminiscent of Arnold being held up against the tree by the Predator.

Fucking never change though HaloGAF. About 8 pages of mostly moaning about what is ultimately an advert which is irrelevant once the game launches. And yet I've seen about five posts on the fact that Theatre hasn't improved in five years sans Campaign rewinding. Dem priorities.

Just gonna post what I posted in the Launch Trailer thread:

I loved the trailer because it seemed like I was one of the few that got it - I admit I was expecting an epic-feeling trailer like those in the past, but this trailer's goal wasn't about that at all. Which is why I don't get people's comments saying that it failed at that when it was clear to me that it wasn't even trying to do that. It didn't try it music-wise, and it didn't try to do it story-wise.

The YouTube trailer description shows how condensed it was on purpose:

"Watch the official Halo 4 Launch Trailer, Scanned. Master Chief's mind is violated by a powerful new enemy, who in searching for Chief's weaknesses, finds the source of his strength."

It was about the Chief's most significant moments being found through scanning in a search which shows why he's that strong. Chief only, no huge war focusing on him storming an army, just a 1 on 1 with his captor, and a great ambush scene.

You didn't have to read all the original Halo stories to get the things that the trailer visualized, all you had to do was pay close attention and watch it more than once. Loved it.

I'm gonna guess that the gameplay trailer will deliver the epic stuff we want, but I'm sure I won't watch it till I beat the game, like I've done since the Halo 2 one.

And man, did it spark a want for a Halo movie yet again.

As I said in the trailer thread, I found it on a par with Deliver Hope, but nowhere near ODST or Halo 3's Believe compaign.

I did enjoy the Didact segments, and the scene where John suited up for the first time, but I found the whole composition fairly weak. It's not a case of 'hating', as someone just said, nor is it a case of not understanding it; as an idea, and as a final piece it's just nowhere near as effective as We Are ODST, for example.

Like I say though, Didact was fucking cool (if that's him at all).

That episode of FUD.....just wow. What a great episode, I was getting chills throughout. I didn't watch the next episode preview though, maybe some surprises in store.

Probably already touched upon, but I found it absolutely fantastic that early yesterday we were talking about that classic piece of Halo art with a crew surrounding and working on the chief's suit, and later on the day we got to see it realized in beautiful live action.

Will watch FUD ep3 later, not at home. :(

agreed, fantastic fanservice.
that gives me hope for the halo film (if it ever comes out).
hell: when halo 5 comes out, we will get a full blown 2 hour movie directed by nolan and thats just for the marketing (like fud) ;)

I wish 343 would stop acting like the AR matters. Otherwise, I liked the pieces of John's past. All in all the trailer was good but not on the level of the others.

I just wish they would actually improve it, at least make it feel good to shoot. The new sound may help a little, but it still looks like its the same ol pea shooter.

Trailer was okay, depending on how you view it--don't see it as much for the casual viewer, nice touches for the fans, but the commercial lacked the story arc we got in the best Halo ads--Believe, We Are ODST, etc.

FUD was pretty good. The kid actors continue to impress.

Also, liked the nods to Davidge's music in the FUD episode
(when Lasky gets informed about his discharge.) And the people falling from the space elevator was pretty damn creepy, and a nice nod to 'Second Sunrise on New Mombasa' in spirit.

I wish the fanbase would stop acting like the AR's balancing in multiplayer is canon. :)

Re' trailer:
not what i was expecting but cool nonetheless. did not anticipate our first view of the didact. by scanning, i had assumed we'd see the forward unto dawn "scanned" ala the infinity ship from the e3 demo - possibly admist the covenant boarding action from the first level. instead we get a glimpse of chief captured and scanned by the didact himself, possibly seeing the "evils" of humanity in chiefs life. a judgement of sorts? also, interesting to see that he appears to share, at the very least, some design elements with the knights.

Halo 4 Forerunner Novel by Greg Bear Delayed
Tor Books, publisher of many... well, books, has announced a delay to Halo: Silentium. The book is the last and final novel in Greg Bear’s Forerunners cycle of the Halo series.

The book was originally planned for release in January 2013, but has since slipped its date to March 2013 alongside both audio and e-book editions.

Previous entries in the series include Halo: Cryptum and Halo: Primordium, both of which are presently available in digital and physical formats. The stories tell of the end of the Forerunners and is designed to fill in the canon explored by Master Chief and his cohorts in the upcoming Halo 4 videogame by 343 Industries.

Halo 4 is set for release on November 6 and is exclusive to the Xbox 360.
