Stop right there. Ford will never reprise the roll and already flat out refused to participate in any kind of reunion events already held. I doubt Fisher will reprise either for the similar reasons. Furthermore Disney will assign whoever they want to direct, whether or not they meet an arbitrary definition of "true fan" or not.

Why would he not do a reunion event? He did Crystal Skull..

So within the next 3 years I'll be seeing a new Mad Max film, Arnold as Conan and Star Wars Episode VII?

I wonder if there's any chance they simply make some fun adventure movies like the good trilogy instead of movies that overuse laserswords and dumb crap like devil looking ninja aliens and shit.

That is the reality.

The main thing that bothers me about this is how it will probably affect the comics. They're the only Star Wars material I've enjoyed for the past 20 years. Guessing the rights will pass from Dark Horse's hands and back to Marvel's.

Oh, Disney was practically crowing on the conference call about how they basically stole this. 4 billion is ludicrously cheap, the first movie alone will likely earn that back.

I think Lucas was being very sincere when he says Disney is the right place for it. He wanted Disney to be the owner, so he was willing to take less to make sure it happened. I can respect that.

Me too. I mean.. what other corporate entity on Earth would be more capable and appropriate?

He did do Crystal Skull but he came away from it unhappy and had already refused Star Wars work before that. He has on many occasions flat out refused to even talk about it with people. He gets angry about it.

With the right amount of money, anything is possible I suppose. This seems like one of those situations that's more based on personal grievance than opinion though maybe the new efforts not being helmed by Lucas will make a difference.

I wonder what will happen to the planned 3D-Re-Release of the original trilogy, especially with FOX holding the rights. Could FOX maybe demand them to be made? Hopefully they'll just scrap the whole 3D thing.

I'd be surprised if this plan were scrapped... it's the perfect lead-in to VII.

Posing for a picture /=/ onboard to do work for 3 more movies. I don't see Hamil or Fisher or Lucas there and like I said, it's a personal thing from what I've been able to tell from grumpy quotes over the years. He is angry about it and Fisher was as well. A more hardcore fan would be able to tell you the details. Also as I said, with money, a change of director and new Disney creative it's possible.

I think this is the key part to take away from here. Especially with some of the Star Wars actors who have found less success than Ford. Hamill apparently has never been asked, so there's that! And Fisher seems fairly okay with it, referenced it in that 30 Rock cameo etc.

I wouldn't go that far, but it won't take many. Ridiculous deal.

You might have missed it- there was a thread on the gaming forum in which the conversation turned to exactly which properties were worth more- nintendo's, or disney's.

As it turns out, Disney has been earning $2 billion a YEAR in merchandising from just CARS alone since 2006.

I can't find the original article, but it was implied there that Toy Story and Star Wars made far more. Disney will EASILY pay for this deal several times over with the first movie. They practically stole this for $4 billion.

He also came together a couple of years ago for the big Empire Magazine cast reunion that had EVERYBODY.

Why do people keep clamoring for Nolan as director? You want a guy who is barely competent with CG to be involved in a film that will be 90% CG?

Also, Nolan has better things to do than sign onto SW films. It isn't going to happen.

Guy needs to stay away from franchises now.

Yeah, just can't see that being a good fit for either. Also couldn't see him getting the creative control he's probably accustomed to now.

I think anyone hoping for a mature, dark Star Wars is misguided. This is Disney after all and they want to make sure it is a huge franchise. I am just hoping for something better than the prequels.

Yep I was not right about that, but Sculli already posted. Thank you anyway, NYR.

Work portfolio doesn't equal personal preference I guess? My bad. Everything I have heard or read about Fisher and especially Ford being interviewed about Star Wars suggested they had deep seated issues about it that really soured them on the original experience.

Like ScreenSplitter said though, money heals all wounds I guess.

Agree to disagree on Star Trek (I just thought the film made no fucking sense and was horribly paced). But totally agree on the fantasy genre thing; I'd love to see what Del Toro had in mind for a Star Wars film. REally, I just want to see an actual acclaimed director handle this who has a vision, who understands the Star Wars mythos but also wants to bring something new to the table, and, most importantly, is competent at directing actors in a way that Lucas simply never was.

Last thing on Trek, i can understand where you are coming from, but dont forget that it was made during the writers strike and many of the scenes /actions werent in the script or were later changed in the editing room. But the Trek creative team most certainly has a huge understanding of Star Wars lore, maybe even so much that it became detrimental to Trek.

this sounds like a direct sequel to Return of the Jedi right? I mean they are calling it Episode 7. In that Lucas interview he even says that he wrote the 1-9 long ago and they are using some of that as a base.

EXCITE!
