im scared to death of who is writing/directing this...what fucking storyline are we going to see...

im out

he wanted to protect it by selling it to disney. PROTECT IT BY TAKING IT TO YOUR GRAVE

You can't take these things to your grave anymore (*). After he died LucasFilm would continue existing and there's nothing he could really do about that other than sell it.

(*) Incidentally, you have Disney to thank for a big part of this. Watch for the next copyright extension act, lobbied for by Disney et. al., around the same time Episode 8 comes out!

this sounds like a direct sequel to Return of the Jedi right? I mean they are calling it Episode 7. In that Lucas interview he even says that he wrote the 1-9 long ago and they are using some of that as a base.

EXCITE!

I wish they would use the Thrawn trilogy as a base but I don't think that's going to happen. :(

I think anyone hoping for a mature, dark Star Wars is misguided. This is Disney after all and they want to make sure it is a huge franchise. I am just hoping for something better than the prequels.

Not looking for mature or Dark- just not terrible.

Lucas actively went and made the OG star wars films WORSE by editing things out, and inserting new scenes with horrible CG where it wasn't needed- then refusing to release the originals in any form.

on TOP of that, the man can't write. His movies- all of them- have some of the worst dialogue known to man. Get a director, ANY director, that isn't a complete hack and has some imagination and you can get some amazing films out of this franchise.

I've still got this Vanity Fair issue stored somewhere that was released prior to Episode III:

If it wasn't for the fact that Jar Jar is RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF THE DAMN PHOTO, it would be pretty awesome.

The only good thing that could come from Nolan Star Wars (I can't even believe this sentence is happening) is that he would take it back to practical effects.

I wonder who would be a good fit to write / direct.

Yep, my bad. But someone posted that literally a few posts above yours and I responded to it.
Work portfolio doesn't equal personal preference I guess? My bad. Everything I have heard or read about Fisher and especially Ford being interviewed about Star Wars suggested they had deep seated issues about it that really soured them on the original experience. Like ScreenSplitter said though, money heals all wounds I guess.
I was wrong, let's move on from the dogpiling if that's okay.

well I for one does NOT want to see the old cast again.

Bring in some new characters and make a whole new trilogy within the star wars mythos.
Make it dark and awesome for us adults.

Well maybe that's enough then. It won't have George Lucas attached, it'll be a completely different team. Not to mention that they'd hardly have to put as much effort into stunts & the like with greenscreen/CGI.

Or make it for the whole family like the original trilogy. It doesn't have to be "dark" to be good.

Well, there have been no Marvel characters in KH.

The marvel buy was 3 years after Kingdom hearts 2.

i haven't kept tabs on the portable releases and what worlds are and are not in there, but it's only a matter of time before marvel shows up in the KH franchise.

kevin smith or peter jackson is my instant nominees for directing this. seriously.

Are you high? Brad Bird, son

edit: yeah, beaten to Del Toro. i think he would be fantastic (I loved hellboy 2, FWIW) and I'm hyped for Pacific Rim. If that does well and he shows he can bring in the dollars, I think he might have a shot.

Protect what?
HE is the one who damaged it and made fans hate him and the material.

They've shown no interest so far in KH3D, but that's just one game. They haven't even touched Pixar yet, and whilst Tron and Pirates are pretty far removed from what I thought they'd do with KH, Marvel is a whole other level.
