I swear it's like Nolan and Blomkamp are the only two directors that most of GAF have ever heard of.

well I guess a lot of users like these 2 as one have made some great films lately and the other one have made one really good film. And maybe not everyone are "movie freaks" like you and me :)

but I have a feeling that a director who have a lot of good films under his belt, like for instance Gore verbinski and nolan, they wont be willing to engage in these films, to risky maybe...

I think a less well known director who is willing to gamble to hit the big times are going to be the director. thats just my 5 cents anyway.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. I just said this would happen whilst I was waiting for Skyfall to begin! No joke! I'm fucking prescient!

EviLore, make me a mod because I'll be able to ban fools before they've even done anything stupid

Seems like 1% of people here are saying this is bad news.

So there's a real possibility for Thrawn on the big Screen now.

As long as thats the case, I think this is a good thing. And the less Lucas is involved, the better.

Oh this is EXACTLY what I wanted. Lucas to hand off the reins of Star Wars and for it to become a regular movie series like Star Trek and Bond.

They've shown no interest so far in KH3D, but that's just one game. They haven't even touched Pixar yet, and whilst Tron and Pirates are pretty far removed from what I thought they'd do with KH, Marvel is a whole other level.

That's the thing. Marvel is SO BROAD you can do just about anything with it. They've already gone the greek mythology route with hercules/the colusseum...who's to say they wouldn't go the Norse route with Marvel Asgard?

And Disney showed they were willing to use KH2 (which is where Tron and Pirates showed up) to promote existing/upcoming franchises. Marvel is such a huge part of their portfolio now (Pirates is on the decline, if not done outright) that it's inevitable.

OH man, I can't wait to see the special editions of the original trilogy after a few of these releases.

If there is a KH3, there will be an Avengers segment. I guarantee it.

Ahaha, just posted this earlier in the thread:

Attack of the Clones has been on the TV over the past week.

My god, what a horrid movie. I used to think it was just Hayden, but COT DAM, it's a laundry list of problems.

-Wooden acting from everyone...Portman, Jackson, and even Ewan McGregor
-Bad effects. I guess they looked good back in the day, but they have aged terribly. Nothing has weight, CGI clone troopers EVERYWHERE (WHY). Backdrops look fake and even feel like the perspective is wrong at times. OMG the CGI of the would-be assassin getting poisoned and morphing back into whatever bug being he/she was
-Made-for-TV cinematography. There is nothing grandiose or artistic about the framing or composition, there is no drama in the shots. It feels like the requirement for each frame was "can you see the actors? Good."
-The dialogue...don't even need to go into that. Did they really think having Obi Wan saying shit like "Why do I have the feeling you'll be the death of me" was CLEVER?
-Inexplicable leaps of logic. Did Anakin really just leap from his ship, fall what looks to be 50 stories, then safely and securely grab onto another ship? Did he really just lose his lightsaber, only to have Obi Wan (conveniently following 30 yards behind) reach out and grab it for him

I thought it was much better when I was younger and saw it in the theatre...I at least thought it has some cool scenes (arena fight, Jango v Obi Wan), but literally nothing holds up.

I mean, look at this shit. It feels like he is trying to create something dramatic with the lighting, but it ends up with just 4-5 medium closeups of their face as they wave their sabers around colorfully.

Sorry to vent. I just couldn't believe it was so bad...If Lucas doesn't touch these and they get some good guest directors, I have hope. I don't even want to try out Revenge of the Sith again.

And yes, the Yoda fight is fucking stupid.

I honestly don't think so now that I think about it.

They'll probably want to get some younger people in there to bring in the teenage and younger crowd, so I think they'll probably jump more toward the Jaina/Jason/Anakin time period and skip over Thrawn.

Sadly.

But even that I think would be awesome. Could also bring in guys like Hamill and Ford for appearances and such.

I initially thought it was horrible news because I don't want more films period. Episodes 4 and 5 are cinematic perfection. 6 aint bad either. But if the new films can be good....... (big if) why not?

Plus, whether you liked them or not, each Star Wars film was an event. Pretty obvious that as the franchise gets whored out further and further, that simply won't be the case any more and, from a nostalgia perspective, that's kind of disappointing.

I'm actually all for the new trilogy...so long as they don't try to ride the back of the original trilogy again in any way. A new, completely separate Star Wars story would be fine.

Over the last day I re-watched the Plinkett prequel trilogy reviews. Disney cannot possibly do worse than those movies in terms of telling a coherent story with decent characters and dialogue. Hopefully they do a combination of practical effects and CG so that the films don't look absolutely dated in a couple of years.

The criticisms of the prequel movies are so widely well known that I'd find it nearly impossible for there to be a repeat incident with the new trilogy.

It could be very good news or it could be the beginning of a horrendous money grubbing franchise milking..

I don't know how I feel about it really. Nerds other than George Lucas think up some dumb shit. They want everything 'badass', dark and 'gritty' all the time, which in some ways I find to be the opposite of mature. I'd like any future star wars to be both fun and faithful as well as new. Cast a shitload of British people as villains. Keep Bruckheimer and Michael Bay well away! Everyone is going to suggest Christopher Nolan and Peter Jackson get involved, but fuck that noise, I think they need someone like Brad Bird at Pixar, or a relative unknown without a reputation to risk by ignoring every stupid fanbase request that hits the internet between now and 2015.

I like Disney, they know how to respect their brands and characters. They have never embarrassingly badassified mickey mouse or Alice or anything.. they know how to go to upsetting or dark places in a cartoon or movie without being angsty, and without losing that wholesome Disney core. Their stuff has heart! I think they might actually make something better than the originals! It'd be amazing for me if my kids can grow up being amazed by star wars like I was

And I will go to Disneyland as a 30+ year old man if this means there's going to be new star wars and Indiana Jones rides!

I think he may have found the perfect stewards for the property. I'm excited by the videogame related possibilities too.

Pirates of the Caribbean movies are much worse than any of the prequel movies. I say this as someone who doesn't like the prequels.

Whatever makes money I guess

I think this is AMAZING news personally this gives someone new a chance to direct the series and the more the better it doesn't bother me if it happens to suck i can always go back to the originals and watch them again it wont taint anything they've already made millions of dollars.

Awesome news. Star Wars already has the "ignore the shitty movies and love the original trilogy" thing going for it, so in the worst case, 7, 8, and 9 just get added to that list. In the best case, WE GET NEW STAR WARS AND IT WILL BE AWESOME.

Wooooooo!

Taking the franchise away from Lucas is the best thing that could ever happen.

Crossing my fingers for a great director and an equally great script.

Say what you want about Lucas, at least he's had the sense to release only six theatrical films over a 20 year period. Looks like Disney's gonna milk this cow for all it's worth.

Whatever way this goes, I'm just happy we can still have genuine, bona fide megatons like this.

I hope they won't do such a big time skip. But who knows, they could even adapt the KotoR setting...

No way. It will be an established director

- if you mean not Lucas - he will be watching over whoever's shoulder it is.

Should they reboot or just continue the story? They will probably use ideas from Legacy like have Mark Hamilton in the obj wan role as a force ghost, r2 and c3po can return since there immortal and I'm sure bobs fett and Darth maul will find somehow to come back since they are such huge cash cows

This can only end bad, no matter how much I will it to be good.

See I kind of think otherwise. I feel like the hatred the prequels got is so well-known and largely agreed upon that they will look at that, what the mistakes were, and try very hard to not have a repeat of it.

can you guys imagine dat trailer hype and dat opening night

shits going to be so real

This thing makes WB releasing Justice league movie in 2015 that much more laughable. Was bad enough releasing in same period as Avengers 2. Now Star Wars and Avengers 2. Its going to be a massacre
