1) Instead of "No Items", there's Boost Mode, but I can only seem to find a way of playing it in private online lobbies. There should be a way of enabling it for local play.

2) There aren't really that many hazards in this game that aren't a big part of the stages (for example, the pirate ships in Rogue's Landing, or the comets in Galactic Parade). There are a few small ones, such as the zombies in Graveyard Gig, and the steamrollers in Graffitti City, but they're so few and far between, I don't mind either way.

It's about options really, but yes I mainly like to play offline so it's a nice thing to have. I kinda like to keep it plain when I play by myself.

Just played my first race and haven't read anything about the game. The last lap threw me for a surprise, but I still managed first place haha.

Is the online for the Wii U version broken or what? I tried for the past hour to play some games after raging at one of the boost challenges (the one in Roulette Road, that shit seemed impossible). I couldn't get any games in.

Any chance you could say anything about Nintendo's patch process? Even vague hints?

Would be interesting to know if the patch process is the same for retail titles as it is for eShop-only titles. Because we know the latter doesn't have any certification fees.

If you've downloaded a patch, then that challenge on Roulette Road is indeed broken, as all the checkpoints are missing. They're working on a fix.

Fuck, I spent two hours on it. I was having no problems my first time through the game on Hard, but then I run across this shit and I almost threw the tablet.

My game may be broken, but I will never forget using Metal Sonic's All-Star for the first time and being engulfed with joy at how cool this is when mixed.

Metal Sonic All-Star Music

Yeah I recognized the theme after listening to it a few times...being used by the AI...in Expert races....

I swear to god, Ring Race on the Skies of Arcadia level was created to enrage me.

I literally had several "time running out before hitting the finish line" moments on it

I think I 4-starred that Ring Race with ease. I used Tails in most Ring Races though.

Okay...issue...I love the game but am I the only one who thinks these stages are too freaking long?! It's like everything is Rainbow Road length and while that's cool for the latter stages, it gets tiring when every stage is such a long and winding affair, shorten some of these bad boys!

Yes and no. Although 1 GP set takes around 20 mins. to compelte, if you've gotten good enough in a stage you can beat it within a minute or so, at least off what some Pursuit challenges in WT are stating lol.

The Cobra stage is messed up on that jump...

Only had it mess up on me once in the Adder's Lair stage, I nail everytime unless I mistime my flips/rolls.

I'm really going to struggle to get the 180 stars and I really want the SegaBot!

=(

AGES dude =P TBH the only advice I can give you for now, is if Expert is too much for you, settle for Hard difficulty stars, you can get it in MOST challenges, even the regular races.

The Wii U patch is going to fix the battle mode issues too right? When I tried to play with my friends today, one arena just spawned us in mid-air in a constant loop dying and another arena would glitch out if anyone fell off. Also, the boost race mode seems to still have items other than boost which seems wrong.

Burning Rangers track has a part where you're in the boat and you hit an invisible wall and stop or something like that. I think it's on lap 2.

There was one time in particular where on the 2nd lap there's that green ramp you reach in boat form and instead of going over it I just crashed into it, twice.
But it seemed to be an isolated incident.

That's a very cool secret there, I feel that I should mention that it's a better secret than I expected so you may want to hold off spoiling it for yourselves for that super surprise goodness, well except that the odds of it remaining unspoilt for someone here on the internet for much longer is incredibly unlikely.

Would like very much for these options to return in a patch.

Wait, what? Waiting for the PC version. Are you saying you can't disable "Catch Up" and "Power Ups"? I thought it was already confirmed you could. I can't stand power ups. And when you turn them off, the first game played like an old-school Sega arcade racer.

it's definitely not a one off, there's some kind of invisible object you can hit in the top right when you come out of the last island with a hole in it in Rogues Landing

Wait does this mean he's free DLC?

has it been so long that people have forgotten what an actual secret character is? :p

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Yes, I believe so.

So I encountered what I'm pretty sure is a bug on S-rank traffic attack in Dragon Canyon, though I'm not sure it's entirely gamebreaking. On the 8th wave (when there's 7 remaining), neither the bonus time chain or the end of wave chain give you any extra time, though every other chain seems fine. It seems like it's possible to get through to the end of the final wave without it, with crafty use of the guaranteed super glove you get, but it's hard as hell.

I don't really have any way of taking video on-hand, but I'll try and get something if it's not obvious.

edit: PS3 version, if that helps.

Set the date of your Xbox 360 or PS3 to December 25th, 2012.
Start Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
Surprise!

...very, very nice. Quick, someone try every other day of the year for
Team Fortress, Football Manager and Shogun
!

Actually, when's the next fifa cup?

stupid question of the day time: why am i collecting coins mid-race? what do they do?

You can use them on the slot machine in a few of the world tour maps, and before individual races elsewhere. It'll occasionally start you out with a free item or temporary vehicle upgrade. The bonuses are minor though.

That's it. Happens to me every time.

It's a shame this game has numerous small issues like this.

When the football transfer window opens in January or whenever it is he will arrive, believe!

Something else I noticed, the timer itself seems to be wrong, the other traffic attacks just do a simple countdown inside the timer circle, but the Dragon Canyon one uses the boost challenge timer where it has the visual for time to finish. Doesn't really seem to have any bearing on success, but it makes me think that there's some kind of mismatch there. It's reproducible, and happens with every character I've tried it with.

Is there any way to contact them about bugs? I know S0L checks here, but I don't know how often, and they've probably already got their hands full with the Wii U debacle.

Sorry if this has been asked, but does anyone know if the WiiU version supports any controllers apart from the tablet and pro pad? Considering picking that version up but want to be able to play multiplayer with current Wii controllers.

OK guys I'll put up the new OP by tomorrow, and I've written a review for the game I want to send to a local electronics magazine, but I would like some feedback on how to improve it or on anything I missed out. I'll post the review later.

Do keep in mind that I'll also add a warning for WiiU users and add a section in the OP for bugs that Sumo should address for this game.

You can play with a Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuck, and Classic Controller according to the manual.

Nice! :D Kudos to Sumo for going the extra mile. I hope more Wii U multiplayer games take that approach, although NSMBU isn't a good start for that...

Found the Bonus Edition on the shelf today and picked it up, among other games.

First reaction: WTF? I can't map Acceleration to X like in the first game? Seriously? That's always my preferred setup for kart racers, but both control schemes A and B only seem to allow for R1 or R2. :/

Second reaction: the announcer sucks. I liked the one in the first game and left him on because he had some charm. But this announcer is just dull and annoying. Will definitely be turning him off.

As for the gameplay, pretty fun. It's sorta taking me longer to adjust from the first game, but I'm liking the stage design so far. DBut I'm dsappointed that the items are crappy again and have nothing to do with Sega.

Picked up the WiiU version in preparation for a party Friday. Assuming the patch isn't up by then, what should I be looking out for in terms of multiplayer?

Yeah, I miss the announcer actually having a personality. Some people found it grating, but I thought it was endearing. And if you're going to have an announcer, why not have one who's interesting?

I still leave him on in this game, because he helps a bit when he says that you failed a stunt, and tells you what item you just picked up (in some of the faster stages, like Graffitti City, I don't like to take my eyes off the road for even a second).

As for the items, I'm surprised they actually took a step back in that *none* of the items are based on any Sega games (in the last game, the boost was a Sonic shoe, and there was a Sonic shield), but the fact that the items are actually well-balanced this time more than makes up for it.

I actually think Sumo deserve a lot of credit for the items; Mario Kart, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and plenty of other similar games have proven time and time again that developers struggle to balance them in such a way that they're useful, but not overpowered and unfair. S&ASRT is the first game in the genre I've played in a very long time that has found the perfect balance. The only one I'm a bit iffy on is the Twister, as if it catches you at a bad time, you can end up slamming into a wall, stopping dead, and taking some time to recover. But that's not very often.

And to think, just about everyone figured he'd be on disc DLC. Pretty awesome of Sega/Sumo to do that.

Yeah, doubly so when you consider the fact that on-disc DLC is actually fine in this game, because it was released at a budget price, and extra characters don't change the core gameplay (unlike Street Fighter X Tekken's DLC characters, for example).

Something that's been bugging me: Is the music supposed to stutter at the start of a race? Because it's been doing that ever since I started playing. Not only that, but now all of the music in game won't play anymore, just sound effects. Has that happened to anyone else?

Well, I voted for Bayonetta, but these are my top two.

Phantasy Star Online
Fei-Yen

Only one who voted for those, though.

I've heard it stutter. Seems like a minor sound bug to me. I've not ran into any other audio issues though... so I can't help you there.

As much as I like this game, I've noticed many little bugs. A couple of times I've semi-fallen off the track and rescued myself, only for it to reset / recover my car regardless of the save. I've fallen off the track, fell through the geometry and seen straight outside of the gameworld. I've seen AI and players online receive all-star items while in second place. I had a race where I had the all-star move as Sonic, fell off the track and become stuck in place until the move ended. Has anyone tried using the Hot Rod item while transforming, too? If you're boosting with the hot rod and transformed from car into boat, the items position becomes offset and clips straight through your vehicle.

It's wonderful and I think Sumo are a fantastic developer. It just seems to be riddled with many small problems, even more-so than the first game. I've only been playing for three - four hours and I've noticed many.
