Read thread title as: "can mario's mustache be parted?"
Could have at least did something like this.
Sonic 4: Episode II Sky Fortress 2 [ Music ]
This was a sequel to the first Sonic 4 (which already has better graphics than NSMB) but they also got rid of that weird plastic 2D style and went full 3D. Game is 15$ in comparison to this title which is 60$ and doesn't use the same enemies/level designs and music like NSMB does.
While this game is also a 2D platformer and has co-op online.
Looks good, I'll buy it on my #WiiU
Is it coming out for Wii U?

Oh god dammit. My brain... is adding BAHs... against my will! D:
To be fair, Sonic 4 Episode II can be beaten in one sitting and doesn't have much replay value to it, also it's no where near as good or fun as any NSMB game. NSMBU might be a simple 2D platformer with simple visuals, but it has a wealth of content to it with over 80 levels, challenge modes, competent multiplayer modes, etc.
Um, visuals wise NSMBU SHITS all over Sonic 4, and its not close.
While I think Sky Fortress is one of the better songs in Sonic 4 i'm confused to what the argument is here.Could have at least did something like this.

Well, which was is more fun is up to the user, I personally find NSMBU more fun in this case. However, my comparison is drawn from these things and also, Sonic levels tend to be much longer than Mario ones. NSMBU is a tad longer (it took me 8 hours to beat all the levels besides Spoilers:) And the challenge modes really are just playing the same levels you already did in NSMB, kinda like how it is Mega Man 9 & 10.collecting all the star coins just to play the Star World.
They could do much more for the 60$ price they have you buy the game for.
I disagree.

1- The music in both episodes of Sonic 4 is also slammed for being pretty poor
2- The game itself is completely mediocre and that's if i'm being generous.
Sonic 4 doesn't excel in the areas where it actually counts, but yeah it would be nice if NSMB got new music and online co-op for the price we're paying by comparison to what Sega presented at a much lower price tag if that's what you're saying.
Just a shame the game kinda sucks.
Hahaha, oh wow. That was one step removed from picking the Mario character select screen as your "example"
For one, the realistic approach fits Sonic like shit on rice. The bacground style should follow the character style. Second, Marios world is full of details that you see in the way characters, backgrounds and effects are animated. Third, Mario is a much bigger game with lots more visual variety and a cohetent artstyle.
But Im guessing your opinion is that a cloud that looks like a photo is better than a stylized one, so I may be preaching to a deaf man.
i'm sick of this circlejerk the most out of all the dumb gaf hivemind circlejerks
Curious, do you guys avoid other things in life because of the music as well? For instance, dislike a movie only because of its song track, or avoid stores due to their music played while shopping?
I feel like I've largely ignored the "music" in the world around me, and am now wondering - does this stuff have an effect on most people? Or even a small but statistically important number of people?
And I'm not talking about not liking some music, I'm talking about essentially boycotting a product and/or store due to its (to me, superficial) music.
So to clarify once and for all the argument is NSMBU could have made a greater improvement on the presentation? well yes, yes they could, I don't think anyone debates that. The argument is that the game has newer music yet for being only 15$, and music comparison shows how much changed from the first title to the second title. The second game features better use of instrumentation as well.
Either or not you like the game isn't the argument here, my argument was stated above. If my opinion were to say NSMBU "sucks" there wouldn't be much of an argument here as we'd just be talking about which games we prefer over the other.

And Sonic 4 Ep 2 is used to show the jump so to speak from its own predecessor on the audiovisual side with the added bonus of being cheaper and also in the same genre for a more relevant comparison?
Well I can't really argue with that.
Remember when 2d Mario games used to have some of the most catchy and recognizable vg music in the industry? Seems like ages ago.

Read the 1st and 7th pages and didn't see it answered but can't you just turn the music off? Play with only sound effects

I agree not playing a game because you don't like the music or a certain song is crazy. But people LOVE video game music including myself, it can really add to the experience. If it wasn't for neogaf I wouldn't even have known people gave a shit about music in Mario. Or games in general. And to not play a game because you don't like the song is crazy, to me.
Do the "athletic" themes in the Mario games appear on certain types of levels? Why is there always an "athletic" theme?
Forever the king of Mario games. God I love the music in Super Mario World.Remember when 2d Mario games used to have some of the most catchy and recognizable vg music in the industry? Seems like ages ago.

P.s. I also stopped playing sonic adventure 2 at the knuckles rap. Those levels lasted way too long to have that grating shit playing. Imagine if the knuckles rap was somehow shoehorned into every sonic game after adventure 2. Sega would be burned at the stake but nintendo gets a pass. No reason for it.
Even when orchestrated, There Will Be BAH's. I love that final "BAHHHHHHH" at the end.

If anything that arrangement goes to show the music is pretty decent and the theme has a classic Mario melody. It's just that the in-game arrangements are grating.
Why would you pass on the console because of one game? Were you just going to buy it for NSMBU? That's kind of silly.
No, it doesn't. It was shitty in 2006 and even more so now.NSMB games have great music, its Nintendo's laziness to do any new music since the 2006 game that gets on my nerves.

I'm literally passing on the Wii U...
And talking of Athletic themes. If you really can't stand the BAHs. DON'T LISTEN TO THE ATHLETIC THEME FROM NSMB2! It's 100% BAH!

Holy shit, man, I'm crying! One of the few times Youtube comments are right on the money.
Music From Resident Evil: Director's Cut: DualShock Official Soundtrack
Oh and Sonic 4 is far superior to NSMB
That just don't do it for me! What we need is someone musically-minded to overlay well timed NSMB "bah's" on other games music! Start with Guile's theme, then the Knuckles rap, FF battle music... an soon the whole gaming world'll be filled with bah!Want to hear the Snake man stage like that? Its pretty cool.
