I like Jojo and all, but anime of the year? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It's still a three way race between Hyouka, Fatzero, and Tsuritama. Spring really was the best.

Anime of the year is Hyouka; it's not even a contest. KyoAni styled all over the competition.

2010 and 2011 were better, tho.

Opinions on Hyouka seem to be generally divided. Hard to say there's "no contest" in that case.

Honestly, I think we should wait a few months before doing the 2012 AOTY thread to give people some time to check out anything they missed and to allow any 2-cour shows still running to finish.

This year's AotY thread needs a -1 point negavote option like some of the GotY threads have had. With our forces united, we can keep the top ten list pure.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Hyouka is the best but it won't win because "lololol so boring I can't appreciate dialogue and animation derp".

JoJo or SAO will win.

Hey. Guess what. SAO 21 spoilers, for people who are wondering what exactly we're all talking about. Not Safe For Life: http://i835.photobucket.com/albums/zz278/Jexhius/Album 2/sao21why.gif

I wouldn't want their to be hope.

But why did she bite?

wafu count: atleast 14 and there's probably more i couldnt make out in the completely incomprehensible noises she loves to make

I'm still surprised Kyoani didn't pick this, she looks completely retarded and clueless, the perfect bait for Otaku.

A lot of casual viewers like myself are not here to "appreciate the dialogue or animation," so it's not all that surprising.

Although I guess that depends on what you mean by "appreciate." One of the best parts about JoJo is the dialogue and a lot of people recognize that.

My AOTY has already been solidly decided with Ano Natsu de Matteru.

Chuu2Byou will most likely get number two, Hyouka number three, after that it's up in the air.

So I just met Nia in Gurren Lagan and I, uh, well . . . she's supposed to be a send-up of magical-pixie-princesses, right? Like, the crosses in the eye, the white hair, the weird never seen a human attitude and all. She's supposed to be an obvious one of those, right?

She's horrible. The worst character in Gurren Lagann IMO. God, when she talks, my ears bleed, so fucking horrible.

God... no way in hell Hyouka will win, it's boring as fuck for most of the audiences.

I'll vote for JoJo. No other anime this year got me so pumped while watching, bad animation and all.

Fuck off Nia is mai waifu and she's voiced by Yukari Fukui. Nia is a true Nonoriri.

Who? What? She's a... what?

Show is still cute. It's a little shallow in its melodrama, and it lacks any sort of real introspection, but it's cute and it feels good. This show is one cour right? Might as well see it through. Maybe I'll check out Hyouka afterwards - seems like a lot of people like it.

What kind of feels does this give me?

You just made my year Extollere. Please let me use the finished version as an avy!!! So hyped!

Be my guest. I wanted your opinion because the first sketch I did was a little different. I had Deko leaning her back against Nibu's breasts, while Nibu poured warm milk over Deko's face and body lustfully. She caressed her delicate little figure carefully with her free hand. Deko looked surprised, and the milk ran down her shirt causing it to become wet and see-through. That way you could see that she had no bra on. Then I thought, man that's gross. Who the hell wants warm milk on their clothing? Plus, isn't it more fitting that they're fighting to suppress their feelings for each other rather than to have blatant lesbianism on display? Well, that's what I thought anyways.

While Extollere watches?

Hey, voyeurism is my favorite sport!

Actually, fuck. I forgot Acchi Kocchi was this year (keep thinking last year)

That one is up there, just needed to decide if two or three...

Sweet lord, please link it! :O

It is more fitting, but I can also see something like this happening when they reach that breaking point where they're unable to control themselves against one another.

Am not even sure what came out this year, was hxh last year or this year? if this year would go for HxH R.

I would put jojo above fate zero since I only really liked about half of fz.

I think sao is going to win.

All but one of my AotY votes are locked in now. I just have one wild card spot that hinges on how a couple of these fall series turn out.

sao is going to win.

It already hit 52 episodes, I think, so it would have premiered some time last year.

Yeah, they explained this because they keep getting scammed by people using foreign credit cards, so they need "proof" of identity in order to justify it. wonzo orders from them, and I think he's okay with them?

So jelly. Mine is still in the mail somewhere, and even then, I won't be able to get to it until later in December.

Yeah, it kind of seemed about as pointless as those age gate things that websites use to cover themselves from any legalities I suppose. It's not like someone can't get someone else's information after they make their first purchase.

I suppose things will take longer to ship due to the holidays but how long do things usually take to get to you? or do you not really order from them that often to recall?

I expect every single character to show up in the final episode though.

A great big royal rumble with all the different teams participating as a final battle would be pretty cool extra fight.

On the other hand, if I try to think of what Mayuri or Kurisu would do, or want to do, without Okabe around, I honestly have no idea. Or, to use Ben-to as an example, I know what Sen would do if Satou weren't around, but she would collapse into a cardboard figure who takes lunch boxes after kicking people.

While I'm still fellating Gainax, is it weird that one of the first things I'd do with a time machine (that had a universal translator) is go back and see Daicon IV with everyone watching it the first time it was shown? That must have blown people's minds.

Hmm, I'm not sure about Mayuri due to what happened and her nature but I imagine Kurisu would really just carry on as she had been with her work and research and such.

I looked up Daicon IV when /XX/ was talking about it and without the little bit of context it probably would have seemed to be one of the most random and strangest videos I've ever seen. Actually, even with context it's probably one of the most random and strangest videos I've seen.

Gundam SEED Destiny 7: 1)Athrun is the new Mu. 2)This reminds me why I hate XIII-2's ending.
because what's the point of two games preventing a colony drop if you do it anyway?
, 3)Lacus' singing voice seems a LOT better this time around. Maybe because it's not a grown woman doing the singing for an alleged teenager?

I believe the two voice actresses portraying Lacus Clyne in Gundam SEED reprise their roles for Gundam SEED Destiny.

Yeah, those are the two instances. Both exceptionally creepy, although perhaps I only find the Utena one so because I watched it after Penguindrum, heh.

y'know, it really does seem like Dvorak's From thew New World gets a surprising amount of use in anime, especially considering that use of public domain music is a rarity in general. Probably the best use of it actually comes from One Piece, which used the beginning of the fourth movement to pretty amazing effect at the climax of the Alabasta Arc. Skip to 2:40 in this video if you want to see it, though keep in mind a.) EXTREME SPOILZ and b.) it loses a lot of its impact if you lack the context of the events leading up to the moment.

Okay, those were the two instances I could recall but I wasn't sure if there was another or more to which you might have been referring.

The scene in Utena is simpler but just as memorable I think with the emotions and context of the story around it at that point. I found it to be a more memorable scene anyway. I think for me it was a more sombre tone when I watched it though.

They're also releasing a complete box set in Japan next March with new box art and a 200-page production booklet. With the movie, new game, Vita port, and now this, it looks like they really want to keep the series momentum going, huh.

Yeah, just saw this over on the gaming section. Interesting that it will be packaged in here as well. Thanks for this information. :)

2013.

Sailor Moon.

Nuff Said.

I really hope so...

Was there not two different votes for AOTY? One for more specifically AnimeGaf and another for NeoGaf members in general?

Patlabor The Movie:
Having somehow never seen anything Patlabor related up until now, I nonetheless jumped on buying those limited editions when they were linked to, and have no rectified my past sins by watching the first movie.

Sweet lord, that was incredible. Right from the opening, it was a gorgeous film. That opening sequence was just amazing, with wonderful animation, great art, awesome direction and great music, and it really set the stage for the whole film. Visually, it was a joy to watch, with some really beautiful scenes, awesome architecture and great character work. The facial expressions were great throughout the film, right from that very first shot with a sinister smile. I wish everything could look this good at all times. The soundtrack throughout the movie was very well used, too. There were so many scenes that were really enhanced because of how perfectly the music created a particular feeling, and they were able to tell a great story even when there were extended periods without much dialogue.

But even leaving the visuals aside, this was just an amazing movie. The plot moved along with some great turns, and the characters were great. The story about the way workers are treated by the corporations is one that transcends setting, but it worked so well here, tying in with how the technology has advanced, and how
everyone "important" is ready to brush everything away as user error and just assume that it's the labor class that is screwing things up, because they're unimportant
. Combined with that, you have the relentless march of technology, and the loss of our roots as everything is paved over for the new hotness. It fits the time period to a tee, and evokes that feeling of loneliness even in a major city.

I also loved that the final end is
after the 'save the world' plot is resolved, and is instead a personal conflict. It puts the focus squarely where it should be: on the real people who are living and fighting and dying in this story, rather than on the epic scale
.

There's still so much I have to process from this movie, but I think it's safe to say that it's going to find a place high among my favorite anime films. I'm only sorry that it took me so many years to see this.

I agree about 2011, but no way was 2010 better than this year. There was a handful of good shows in 2010, but this year has definitely had more quality shows emerge than 2010 did.
