Wreckage.

In slayer it plays a lot like Swordbase with people holding the top hill and making use of the ample cover, then picking off fools thinking they can get the jump on you through the man cannons.

In CTF, despite what you'd think, it actually plays really well, the choice of routes between the bases (which are actually quite close together) give some nice variety to tactics.

My initial impressions were that it was poop, now I'm upgrading it to so-so.

Still not sure about Shatter either, great for Extraction. Bad for Dominion. Not great for Slayer. I don't really feel like it needs the teleporters..

Mixed feelings about this day, but first glad to see Dax is back and alright, best wishes for you.

The shootings in CT brought tears into my eyes, what a sad world this is, imagining something like this happening to my daughter .. I don't know what I would do..

on another note I saw "The Hobbit" a few hours ago, in 3D and 48 FPS, it was kind of weird at first, but the movie was awesome, I love the landscapes

All part of 343i's vision I guess. Spartans are no longer badass mo-fos. Anyone can just sign up to be one and they're simply cannon fodder.
-- In 343s defense they did a total 180 on the Covenant, who are now just a massive bunch of clowns who get cut down like wheat in a tornado when facing anyone not as hapless as the UNSC Marines (who the Spartans shit on constantly despite supposedly many of them being former Marines and Army).

-- And yeah, after beating H4 on Legendary. Wow the Prometheans are just the lamest bullet sponges in recent gaming memory. They have about as much intelligence as a spawned Call of Duty drone. Doesn't help none of the Forerunner weapons are any good in single player except the Incinerator cannon.

that would be post CE hunters.

seriously, i know the hunters were stupid easy in CE with the dodge behind them, single shot to the back, but they were fun. now, they literally are just bullet sponges. i fucking hate fighting them. how about we return to the mechanic of a HUGE weakspot on their back, we just make it more challenging to get to. maybe make them more deadly from range with the FRC? that way players have to bait them in close or use cover wisely to close the gap before taking them down in style (and fun!). something.

All maps have red spots. Seriously don't get the hate for that map. I could play Swordbase all day. Really miss beta Reach where it was just that and Powerhouse.

Said it before, will say it again, Sword Base plus swat = Peanut Butter + jelly.

why not make the weak point much smaller. I mean, stick a plate on their back but leave a small hole for the same reason their whole back is exposed.

The weak spot still sorta exists even in Halo 4. A bit more problematic is that they seem to have realized how BS hunters could be if you only had smallarms now, so I don't recall a single situation in the game where you didn't have access to fuel rods or sticky launchers when they were around.

Late to the party but glad to see Dax alive and well and hitting it out of the breakdown of the small things that made Halo 3 great.

yeah, its still a weak spot, but pretty much every hunter fight turns into "where are my power weapons" and chuck every grenade i have at them. so not fun. i was so dissapointed in 4 on the composer lever when you get thruster pack immediately before fighting a pair and rather then having to use the thruster to get yourself in a truly advantageous position, the battle played out with me charging past them to grab the sticky det. so that i could just plug away at them with power weapon. imagine if instead, they were CE hunters but were better at meleeing and tracking AND more dangerous from afar and you needed to use the thrusters to get behind them and peg them. sounds like a lot more satisfying to me.

I don't want to over-analyze the Hunter AI, which has never been a shining star in the Halo sandbox, but even on Legendary the Hunters are not that hard to kill if you have time on your hands because they are very reticent to fire their fuel rods and the player just has to dance around to avoid their rather absurd melee damage radius from the charges. I never once thought "oh crap a Hunter!" it was just "sigh .... two Hunters ... so lets look around for the inevitable blast weapon or just run by them."

Good to have Dax back.

Now on to business:

Halo 4 is not a good online videogame.

It's not fair to judge a game that isn't finished yet, but yeah, it's not nearly as much fun as previous non-Reach Halos.

I am actively searching for a new online multiplayer experience. I'm so desperate that I actually watched Tashi's stream of Dota 2 last night. I had no idea what was going on but I still watched for 45 minutes.

thats my point exactly. its not that they are tough, but they arent at all fun. and funny enough, no matter how many times i killed them in CE and how easy they were, it was always fun and satisfying. i just want that back - of course, i'd like 343 to figure out a way to make them dangerous at the same time too though.

You know I actually liked the Hunters in Halo 2. They were tougher but not overly tough. I also liked them in ODST. First game I legitimately was scared of them. I remember one chasing me through a building on Legendary. I had never really been scared by them before that.

ODST hunters were best hunters. I remember sneaking past them (you could actually do that in the shadows) because I didn't wanna fight them. Man I loved ODST.

DotA is a great game with a ridiculous learning curve. I dunno if I could keep up if I hadn't been playing the WarCraft 3 version off and on since... christ, 2004?

If you're willing to get curb-stomped in an attempt to enjoy it, play it and see. Waiting for an OS X version of DotA 2 right now.

Those Golden Hunters  Definitely the most frightening Hunters in the series, or the H1 Hunters until you realized you could 1-shot them lol

I would love Halo 4 so much more if the DMR wasn't so good, the boltshot wasn't so good, active camo wasn't an armour ability, and jetpack wasn't an armour ability. If only.

DotA is fun. Especially because I have some of HaloGAF to play it with. I've been playing it a lot lately because my usual Halo group has really dwindled. Shit sucks.

I can't remember the level but there was a checkpoint I got in ODST once that whenever I spawned I would have a hunter staring at me and destroy me.

Absolutely the most frustrated I've ever been in a halo game.

Reason #3102 why I am apparently the most privileged player of Halo in the world; I've never gotten a bad checkpoint ("bad" in this case being a situation I could not fight my way out of.) I came close playing co-op Composer though--the airlock doors wouldn't open. We waited around for three minutes and then a random squad of Covenant appeared and triggered the door to open.

I watch a bunch of SC2 stuff online (mostly Day9 stuff) and I've even tried playing LoL on my laptop but it just reminds me that I need a decent gaming rig. I'd love to learn how to play SC2, DOTA and LoL with HaloGAF peeps.
